Almark – Northern Sword, Southern Wand

Volume 2 - CH 14

The pale?yellow light led intermittently deeper into the forest.

The footprints were interrupted along the way, but thanks to Torque“s?spell, they did not get lost. Scents in the air quickly diffuse, but those that stuck to trees, stones, and other things that the monsters contacted directly emitted a pale light that became a landmark for the two of them.

It was clear that, being monster , it walked freely through the bushes and animal paths without being concerned about the paths that people walk on. Almark was able to traverse the path with his amazing physical strength and leg power, but Torque was struggling to keep up with him.

Many times he almost shouted, "Wait," but decided to keep his mouth shut.

Torque could tell that the time was running out. If they did not catch up quickly, the junior studen’s life would be in danger. He had no choice but to endure

(What kind of training do you go through to get this kind of monstrous physical strength? )Torque thought, gritting his teeth.

(This guy is really good at everything but magic. Not only can he use a sword, but he can also think fast. .)

(He can do anything. ......)

Torque, wiping away the sweat that was pouring down his face under his heavy breath, recalled the spell of the flame that Almark had used .

(I've never seen anyone who can create such a huge flame with almost no practice. And he came back to the dorm that same day like nothing happened ).

(He would eventually better then me in magic.)

That was a certainty that was almost scary for Torque.

Just as he was running behind him now, the day would come when he would have to catch up with him in magic as well.

Torque thought of his hometown, of the Si-Fei family.

The vow of his childhood. For Torque, it was the very definition of his own way of life.

(I ought to have had that kind of power, too, he thought. What he thought of as talent, wrk, seemed so puny when he looked at him, and it made him feel miserable.)

"Damn!"

Torque said with anger voice .

Almark didn't even look back at Torque anymore. He was single-minded chasing the light that had shone on with Torque chasing spell . His back becomes smaller and smaller.

(This is the kind of guy who can run toward his goal without thinking about anything else, without looking back . That's the kind of guy he is. That's his talent, .)

(But I'm grateful for this right now. If he turns around and shows some concern for me, that would be more unbearable.

(He will eventually get ahead of me in magic. He will probably pass me without even looking back at me.)

Torque gritted his teeth.

(But not now.)

(I am still far ahead of him in magic, at least for now.)

(I'm not asking him to wait. I can run, too. As fast as he does. No, I have to run. I have to run in the name of Shi-Fei, familly on the oath I swore that day.)

With a desperate look on his face, Torque kept running, trying not to lose sight of Almark.

“I see him!"

Almark stopped.

Following the light, he ran up ti small slope and soon found himself on a long, gentle descent.

When his vision cleared, he saw, not far away, a one-horned monster walking with a boy at his side . The fluffy yellow light emanating from its body was proof that Torque's magic had reached the monster .

(We had ran a long way, but the magic never ceased. to amazing me .)Almark thought with admiration, and that's when he looked back for the first time.

Torque was coming up the slope with his hands on his knees, pushing himself forward and struggling to get up to the slope.

Almark was also surprised to see that Torque was surprisingly nearby.

(He is not just can talk . He had guts, too.)

"I'm glad you came with me, Torque."

When Almark called out to him, Torque's face twisted as he breathed heavily, and he spat out, "Sure thing "

“I hope that boy is still alive .”

"I think he's fine. You've helped me out , Torque."

Almark shook the branch in his hand. A sharp sound split the wind.

"Leave the rest to me "

With such words Almark ran down the slope.
