Chapter 1
St. Maxmas holidays.
Most of the people in Berk Academy return to their hometowns to spend the last holiday of the year with their families.
My best friend and roommate, Alice Tozman, also took the train yesterday and left for the estate.
There were only a few left in the academy.
I was one of those few.
My hometown where I was born and raised, Baron Belotte, was located near the southern border of the kingdom, and it is difficult to make a round trip in a week.
It is plausible to go.
But I opted not to
The reason was....
absence of family.
Since my mother died when I was eight, my family had never fully gathered for Maxmas holidays.
For my father, who was in the toy business, Maxmas holidays were the busiest time of the year, and my two older brothers, who were attending the academy, were busy with their studies.
I still vividly remember the first Maxmas holidays after my mother passed away.
The nanny held me, who was crying in her arms and comforted me.
The nanny was kind enough to comfort me, but the nanny could not take the place of my mother.
From that year I celebrated all the Maxmas holidays alone.
I felt a kind of emptiness, like a hole in my chest whenever Maxmas holidays approaches.
Rather than being alone in home, the academy where there were at least a few people left was better.
So, since I entered the academy, I have been spending the Maxmas holidays at the academy.
Even though I was alone at the academy, I no longer felt bitter or lonely because I was already used to it.
Rather, I was excited at the thought that I could get a good night’s sleep, which I hadn’t got while studying for the final exam for several weeks.
But, before a good night’s sleep, a nightmare appeared in front of me.
An unknown baby appeared in my room.
“Dabu”
No matter how many times I rub my eyes and pinch my cheeks, it’s still cringing on to my bed.
The baby did not disappear.
It is a sight that cannot and should not happen.
Oh my gosh.
This must be a nightmare.
What a nightmare to begin a holy holiday.
I turned around and looked at the room.
‘Obviously, this is my room.’
The intense pain in my cheek says, this is an undeniable reality
“How did he get in?’
Since Berk Academy is an educational institution that nurtures important talents, whom might become the backbone of the kingdom, the boundaries are guarded to prevent strangers from entering.
It was not at the level of simply placing a bunch of security guards here and there.
Magic is spread throughout the academy so that no one without permission can enter in the first place.
Warning alarm magic has been installed throughout the campus to catch anyone who managed to infiltrate. But in such a place, without an adult, a baby appeared.... alone?
It sounded impossible-Even funnier, there were no signs of an intruder.
Everything in my room was exactly like before I went to bed yesterday.
‘Did he fall from the sky?’
Without knowing my troubled heart, the baby kept chewing my blanket with his mouth, which seemed to have only gums.
Even in this unfamiliar place and with a stranger, there is no sign of fear in him.
Seeing his carefree face, I asked without thinking much.
“Who are you?”
That’s a stupid question.
Of course I know that the little baby can’t give me an answer
Still, I asked again.
“Where are you from?“
“Where’s mommy?”
“Baabu”
The baby lay down and looked up at me as if he didn’t understand my question.
His mouth was wide open, as if he was thinking deeply about something.
Transparent saliva dripped from between his lips.
The eyes that were blinking slowly, the eyelids that looked soft reminded me of a cute little cat.
“He has a face that I’ve seen somewhere....’
The moment I felt an unknown sense of worry in the blue eyes staring at me, it disappeared in an instant.
“Dadabu !”
The Baby rolled on the bed and came up to me.
“Huh?”
“Wait, wait! Don’t come here!”
Surprised by the baby’s sudden movements , I slowly retreated back, but the baby approached me at a faster speed than I expected and got up on my thigh.
Then he quickly buried his face in my arms without getting any assent from me.
The inside of my arms became hot in an instant. There was a faint smell of milk.
“Wait, little baby!”
I grabbed the troublemaker’s waist with both hands.
“Hababa!”
Perhaps he thought that I was going to play with him.
The little boy let out a high scream and bent and then straightened his knees as if he was about to jump.
I felt like he would fall down from the bed if I left him alone, so I hugged the little boy in my arms.
‘I can’t.’
An instinctive warning rang in my head.
This was something I could never solve on my own.
While uncovering this child’s identity, I also need help in taking care of this child.
However, there were not many people left in the academy now.
In this frustrating situation, there is only one person that comes to my mind.
‘Felix Christian.’
I hate to admit it, but he is still my childhood friend, whom I can count on.
He is the only person I know among the people who remain at the academy right now.
Entering the men’s dormitory has a penalty, but now is not the time to think about that.
“You stay here.”
I put the little boy whom I didn’t want to fall down on the floor and ran to the bathroom.
After a quick shower, I changed into my pajamas.
Then I found another problem
“Child, why are your clothes like this?”
As it is the end of the year, the weather is cold.
But, the little boy was dressed in a thin indoor dress one would normally wear in summer.
“Baa?”
“It’s not Baa, why are you wearing that? Did you come from Genoa?”
I’ve heard that in Genoa, the seasons are opposite to ours.
But...
It is impossible to come here from Genoa, which is in the opposite end of the continent.
The little boy once again, unaware of my worries, just looked at me and smiled.
“Maabuu”
“Maabu.. is it a yes or no ?..”
Hah...what am I asking you?
Instead of arguing with the little boy, I brought a blanket and wrapped it around the little boy.
The little boy struggled a bit and refused, but I managed to wrap the blanket around him.
Thugged the fat-faced kid and put another blanket over the kid’s head.
It looks a bit suspicious but, I guess no one will notice
I reassured myself like that and went out.
After entering, I quietly climbed the stairs of the men’s dormitory with the little boy creaking inside the blanket.
But suddenly
A familiar voice was heard behind his back.
“What the hell are you doing here, Elena?”
It was the senior from the same magic department.
“If a female student enters the boys’ dormitory, there is a penalty. You know that right..?”
All I could do was turn my back and at him smile awkwardly.
“Hahaha. Senior, good morning. What are you doing here at this hour? Didn’t you visit your hometown?”
“I’m graduating soon, so I don’t think I need to go. I also have to write a graduation thesis.”
“Oh, I see. What topic are you writing your thesis on? I have a lot of interest in herbal medicine, so is it herbal medicine?”
“I know that you were never interested in herbal medicine, but now you want to talk about it?”
“Did you feel that way? not really. I am really curious, that’s why I asked.”
“Okay, I will believe it’s real, but what are you doing here at this hour?”
He paused for a moment and smiled mischievously.
“Did You plan any secret meeting with someone?”
“No!”
Secret meeting, what nonsense!
I was so startled that I shouted without realizing it.
Startled by that, the little boy kicked and rustled inside the blanket.
“Baabu.”
“Shh, be quiet. Not yet.”
I lightly patted the little boy on the back.
I felt the little boy resting his face on my shoulder languidly.
“It was a joke. So if it’s not a secret meeting, what are you really doing here?”
Senior climbed up the stairs while asking.
I hurriedly climbed up the stairs one by one.
“I was... on the way..... to do professor’s errand.”
“Do errands like this? Which professor?”
“It is a secret. And I was thinking of giving it early in the morning and go to see the festival.”
“Really?”
The senior didn’t seem to believe my clumsy lies.
He approached me faster than I was going up the stairs, and he looked at my chest and stomach, which were suspiciously bulging.
“What is that?”
“...A book.. Yes, it’s a book! It’s an errand to deliver books to Felix.”
He tilted his head.
“It’s a strange shape to be called a book. Besides, why did you cover it with a blanket like that?”
“It’s winter. I don’t want it to get frost on my way.”
Hearing my another clumsy reply, senior came towards me, while his eyes were still on the blanket.
At that moment.
“Babababu!”
The little boy creaked under the blanket once more.
“Kiiii....”
I was so startled that I let out a shriek, and the senior’s face became stained with surprise.
“what? It’s not a book!”
“Well this is..”
Before I could come up with another clumsy excuse, the blanket fell down due to the little boy’s struggles, and the little boy raised his head.
“Dabu!”
