Chapter 188 - "I did say to not pick someone too handsome to be a husband; but I didn't say to think of them as your son either." (2)
Luo Xiu smiled casually.
An Yi walked over to them as well and, when he heard what Qiao Xi said, he lifted his chin at Luo Xiu, “Don’t think that his reputation was the same as when you went abroad. During your two-year absence, Old Mr. Luo got sick for a while and Luo Xiu stepped I and took over the Lu Corporation during that time – there had been a lot of legends about him being passed around. Am I right, Luo Xiu?”
“Is that so?” Luo Xiu’s tone was very perfunctory. “I’ve never heard of them.”
An Yi snickered. “Never mind about anything else. Two years ago, Luo Zhan was still the Little Young Master of the Luo family and half the people out there referred to him as the Second Young Master.”
Luo Xiu smiled tenderly and pretended that he didn’t hear a thing.
Qiao Xi sighed. “Though I must say, the way that you walked over here was quite impressive – Is that how you stole my arranged date from me?”
That Luo Xiu heard. It seemed to remind him of something. Lowering his head and smiled, he said, “No. If we are to swap, I am sure she will be the one who block in front of me.”*
Qiao Xi, “....?”
Qiao Xi recollected himself and said, “That’s not very manly.”
An Yi patted Qiao Xi on his shoulder, “Silly boy. You don’t get it. That’s that reason you look like a player but have, in fact, been single since the day you were born.”
Qiao Xi flung off An Yi’s hand and said, “You are a Taoist priest who would never get married. You don’t have the legs to stand on to talk about me.”
“I only have your best interest in mind.” An Yi pointed at Luo Xiu. “He is a demon himself. I just didn’t want you to fall into his traps. Don’t go. Those in his realm are all bad people.”
Qiao Xi smiled bitterly, “I don’t want to either, but....”
An Yi paused a little, then turned to joke around with Luo Xiu. “I didn’t even get what you were trying to do early. That Qiao Anlin wasn’t half bad. He could read your mind?”
Luo Xiu didn’t care about An Yi’s teasing tone. “He’s a smart and capable person.”
An Yi, “Why would he did such a thing if he’s so smart and capable?”
Luo Xiu smiled coldly, “He knew what he was doing. Even if Qiao Xi went and told the incident to the Qiao’s family, he could always blame it on the alcohol.”
“Just for the sake of provoking Qiao Xi?”
Luo Xiu said casually, “And, if he could provoke Qiao Xi to take it a step further, all the better.”
“....”
Finally, An Yi patted Qiao Xi on his shoulder and lamented. “Nothing might happen to him but you almost got into trouble.... As I have said, these are all bad people.”
Luo Xiu frowned and turned to look at Qiao Xi. “Judging from the way he was rising within the Qiao family, it didn’t make sense that he would antagonize you like that. Did you father’s attitude toward you change recently?”
Qiao Xi was dazed for a couple of seconds then shook his head. “No, noth... Could it be what happened when we were paying respect to our ancestors?”
Luo Xiu, “Paying respect to your ancestors?”
“Yes, the Qiao family holds spiritual ceremonies for their ancestors periodically. Normally, we will invite Taoist priests from all the major temples to be present.” Qiao Xi took a look at An Yi’s priest bun and turned back helplessly. “My dad had been the one in charge of the arrangements up until now. For some odd reasons, this year he said I have too much free time and that he would have me take over the communications with the Taoist priests.”
Luo Xiu looked like he had it figured out.
An Yi interjected, “That sounds like grunt work to me. Why would your brother care about that?”
Luo Xiu smiled and sighed, “If Luo Jinyuan suddenly have myself or Luo Zhan take over the matters regarding ancestor worshipping, do you know what we will do?”
An Yi, “What can you do it its an order coming from Old Mr. Luo? You’d decide with a game of Rochambeau?”
Luo Xiu smiled. “Run. Run overnight overseas. And, at the same time, do whatever within our power to slow the other person down.”
An Yi, “?”
Luo Xiu didn’t elaborate any further but just asked Qiao Xi, “When are you going? Which Taoist temple?”
Qiao Xi, “I only have time over the weekend so the first Saturday of next month. I think it’s the 4th? As for the location, for sure An Yi’s Taoist temple. That’s the only one that I am somewhat familiar with.”
Luo Xiu nodded, “Okay. I’ll go with you on the day of.”
Qiao Xi was taken aback a little.
An Yi turned around, alarmed. “Why are you going? You still haven’t given up on the thoughts of joining our temple?”
Luo Xiu chuckled but didn’t answer him.
