Chapter 54 (Zhao Yuan Was Not His Usual Self) To Prevail in the Freshmen Contests
“Miss Chen, why not upload this photo to the forum of your university? It’ll definitely cause a sensation,” Luo Yang said while pointing at a photo. Chen Yuxin had gazed upon this photo for a long time.
She shook her head and replied, “Compared to that, it’s better to make the rumor about him having AIDS spread faster and wider.”
Luo Yang felt confused and looked at the photo again. “Under the dim light, Zhao Yuan walked out of the bathhouse while only wearing shorts, and behind him stood Lin Wenxi who was topless too. What else could they do? This photo proves everything. We can use it to destroy Lin Wenxi. Why does Miss Chen refuse to use this evidence against him? This girl is so unpredictable.”
Lin Wenxi was content with his life now.
His life was peaceful. No one would come to disturb him. Only Gu Xi would come to talk with him sometimes. Despite that, he still wanted to move out of his dorm. He planned to ask his mother to give him more money and take some part-time jobs. In this way, he could rent an apartment off the campus for himself for the next half year.
One night, when Lin Wenxi turned on the shower, warm water spewed down. He was stunned.
Students of Jifu University could take warm showers in their dorms by rotating their shower controllers to the left, but due to the water use restriction, they usually did not have adequate shower water pressure. As such, most of them preferred to go to the bathhouse in the winter. They just needed to pay a little money to enjoy a refreshing shower for an hour.

Unlike his schoolmates, Lin Wenxi always took showers at his dorm. Every time he took a shower, he would rotate the shower controller to the right and let the cold water drench himself from head to toe. Tonight, however, when he rotated the shower controller to the right as usual, warm water came out of the shower head. He rotated the controller to the left and then left it in the middle, the water was still warm. He thought, “Someone must’ve blocked the cold water pipe.”
Lin Wenxi was rendered speechless. He flushed the toilet and found out that water in the toilet was warm. He turned on the faucet over the basin. Warm water came out of it again. Someone had blocked all the cold water pipes in this dorm.
He had no choice but to take his first warm shower in this winter.
“Brother Yuan, what you’ve done seems to be too...” Wang Xiang twitched his mouth and said.
“This may be the last thing that I can do for him,” Zhao Yuan interjected while rubbing his chest. He did not feel that painful now, but he understood that he and Lin Wenxi could never go back to their past life.
Not long after that night, Freshmen Contests began.
Chen Wanxin was not interested in basketball, despite that she had often been invited to watch basketball matches by her admirers before. She went to watch the basketball match on the campus without high expectations. To her surprise, she was deeply impressed by Zhao Yuan’s skills and enjoyed watching the game very much. As such, she went to watch all the basketball matches until the final.
Zhao Yuan showed his leadership on the basketball court. He moved nimbly while occasionally communicating with his teammates with hand signals. During half-time, he set the strategy calmly and confidently. When dappled sunlight shone through the leaves of the plane trees, his broad shoulders and handsome face were lit up. Upon seeing that, Chen Wanxin could not help but hold her breath. Her heart was pounding with excitement.
She watched him with a slight smile. He scored and took off his vest while cheering. He gazed upon the basketball, jumped up and blocked a shot.
After the match, girls surrounded him and delivered him clothes and water. Some bold girls even threw themselves at him. In the past, Zhao Yuan would have received such favors with a smile, but today, he just remained silent, his face cold.
Chen Wanxin looked at Zhao Yuan. She found it hard to believe that this outstanding young man was related to that silent person.
She thought, “Zhao Yuan doesn’t look happy. Is it because of his family affairs? No, it’s probably not. He has never visited that person and does not seem to be worried about that. Is it because of Lin Wenxi? I haven’t seen them being together for quite a long time. Neither have Luo Yang and his subordinates.”
As for Shu Xiaoman, she finally accepted the fact she did not have a chance with Lin Wenxi. As such, she gradually got over her crush on the boy. Much to her disappointment, Lin Wenxi refused to talk to her anymore. She did not know whether it was right for her to tell him about the bet between Zhao Yuan and Chen Wanxin.
The basketball final and the dancing contest fell on the same day.
That day, when Chen Wanxin and her teammates walked out of their dormitory building, they caught the attention of a lot of boys. The girls were dressed in very fit and sexy tank tops, mini skirts with black lace hems and black pantyhoses with golden shimmer. They looked like those cool and attractive girls depicted in comic books. The boys were excited upon seeing them so much so that they probably would not sleep well at night.
A big crowd of boys escorted them all the way to the stage. The boys huddled together but always managed to keep a polite distance from the girls. All the boys knew Chen Wanxin very well. It would be alright if they just stayed beside her and watched her, but once they offended her, she would definitely beat them up.
During the final rehearsal of the dance, when Chen Wanxin heard the loudspeaker announce the basketball team of Jifu University as the champion, she smiled. Zhang An’an and Shu Xiaoman were so excited that they hugged together. Unlike the girls, who did not have time to watch the basketball final, Lin Wenxi had gone to watch the match.
Gu Xi had dragged Lin Wenxi all the way to the stand. They watched the match with telescopes. During the match, the scores remained quite close, Lin Wenxi felt anxious. Upon seeing that Zhao Yuan who always looked confident seem to be anxious too, he felt worried and even somewhat suffocated. When Zhao Yuan’s team finally won the match, he finally felt relieved and refreshed.
When the crowd burst into cheers, Lin Wenxi saw Zhao Yuan walk out of the crowd alone with a towel around his shoulders. He quickly left the excited crowd for the dorm.
“If you really care about him, just go to find him,” said Gu Xi. “Look at me and Zheng Kai. He thinks that I’m too clingy. He often scolds me and even yells at me because of that, but I can still do what I want.”
Lin Wenxi shook his head and said, “Let’s go. I have to go to the poem writing contest for Wang Xiang. It’s about to begin.”
Gu Xi smiled upon hearing that. In fact, it was he, An’an and Xiaoman who had come up with this idea together. They had asked Wang Xiang to carry out this plan, as Wang Xiang was always able to avoid offending Lin Wenxi.
Wang Xiang was a member of the basketball team, and he also entered his name for the poem writing contest, while pretending to neglect that the contest and the basketball finally fell on the same day. When he had to go to the basketball final, he begged Lin Wenxi, who had not signed up for any contest, to help him out. Gu Xi also persuaded Lin Wenxi by saying, “Wang Xiang is quite a nice guy except for being a little fickle in love. He’s my friend too. Just help him out this time, for me.” Wang Xiang repeatedly whined about this thing. If he quit the poem writing contest now, he would lose some credits. In the end, Lin Wenxi agreed to help him.
According to the rules, if a student did not have time to go to a contest, he or she could send a substitute for himself or herself. If this student quit without finding a substitute for himself or herself, he or she would lose some credits.
Lin Wenxi went to the poem writing contest and quickly became a finalist.
