Chapter 131 - Turning Into a Villain
Alexander looked at her for a few seconds, trying to guess whatever she was thinking. Buying a mansion and a few cars were some things that could be done easily if it's done properly.
However, it takes time to do that and he doubted that everything was done on one's whim.
"Xiaoran, I may not know what you're truly planning right now but if it's something illegal. Don't do it." Alexander returned his gaze to the road once the go light was lit.
"It's not illegal."
"Black market auction is illegal." Alexander curtly replied. His grip around the steering wheel tightened before he sighed.
The events in China never really escaped Alexander's eyes. Everything that he and Yan Xiaoran had some involvement with, he tracked them and watched their every move. Xiao Gui had been sending him daily reports that he never missed to read it at the end of the day.
The Zhao family had taken the rough side this time. Not only did their crimes took the spotlight and was spread across the country, but the things that they treasured was also taken away from them.
The mansion that the Zhao family was so proud of and the sports cars that they bragged about in front of their peers, all of it was sold to the black market. It seems that the patriarch of the Zhao family tried to wash his hands from his crimes and sold his properties to someone who was dealing with the black market. He probably thought he could escape the country before the cops get to him.
Not only that, Alexander was surprised how quickly Yan Xiaoran handled things that the entire Zhao family was taken by surprise and couldn't do anything about their situation.
As someone who's been on the lookout for the Zhao family, Alexander immediately found out about this matter.
Of course, Alexander didn't care about that abominable family who made his wife suffer while he was somewhere else looking for her. But that didn't mean he would allow her to take matters illegally.
She wasn't him, a person who lived in the Underworld for a long time and got used to the life in the dark where no one would venture out willingly.
He would welcome her in his world but not like this. Not where she would shed away her humanity and forget herself.
Yan Xiaoran was definitely hiding some things from him and he didn't want to pressure her to tell him for as long as it didn't involve another man.
Leaning her head against the window, Yan Xiaoran looked up at the starry night. She didn't say anything even after he said all that.
And just when he was about to think that she fell asleep, Alexander heard her say, "You really can't blame me for doing this."
"I'm not blaming you. I'm protecting you." Alexander softly said which made her smile.
"I know." She replied. "But I have to do this for the me in the past. And I'm not doing anything illegal." Her voice turned soft like a whisper.
Remembering her past self was making her feel like her heart was being grounded until it became soft powder. Even now, she's still hiding beneath her mask and appeared strong in front of others. In front of Alexander. She was afraid that her ugly self appearing and breaking her apart like in the past.
She also didn't want to do things underhandedly but the Zhao family did her dirty in the past too. She was only serving them the same medicine they used to her when they dragged her down to hell.
Besides, she wasn't the one buying things in the black market. She did have some doings behind the scenes which made the patriarch of the Zhao family surrender his properties and it was her money that will be used to pay everything.
"So, don't worry about me. I won't let anything come between us." She finally looked at him. Alexander was surprised to see the determination and clarity in her eyes.
Chuckling under his breath, Alexander shook his head. What was he worried about anyway? If Yan Xiaoran ever committed a crime, he would definitely help her get away from it. And if she didn't want him to do that, he would gladly follow her inside the prison.
Maybe inside the prison, no one would disturb their lives. No enemies on each side who wants to kill him. And no 'parasites' that would try to get in between them and their love.
"Alright. So, how are you playing this game?" He suddenly asked and turned the car towards the corner, "Should I call the Director of the police department to make sure that they won't get away? Or should I call the head judge to see things that they will rot in prison?"
Yan Xiaoran blinked a few times. She became speechless at his words and before long, she laughed so hard that tears started to form in the corners of her eyes.
"Thanks, but I think I'll take up your offer next time." She said shuddering at the realization that Alexander was indeed someone powerful both in the normal world and Underworld.
Just from this conversation, she found out another thing about him. It didn't matter where playground Alexander was playing at, for as long as it's somewhere he could play his game, anywhere was fine.
But then again, she was not so different from him now. Actually, she was turning into someone like him. Maybe Alexander put a spell on her and turned her into a villain.
Smiling at that thought, Yan Xiaoran wondered whether she was really turning into someone evil.
With her horrible past and vicious ways in the future, anyone would flee at the sight of her. Berate her for being what she is right now.
And yet, Alexander didn't only accept her. He was even willing to take part in her path to evilness.
Shifting on her seat, Yan Xiaoran pulled on her seat belt as she put a peck on his cheeks, taking him by surprise.
Then, she said, "An advance reward."
