Chapter 181: The Lost Shrine

Chapter 181: The Lost Shrine

The ground surface slightly trembled as stamping feet approached, immediately, five enormous and vicious beasts appeared almost at the same time from different directions. Harsh breaths drifted along, congesting the air in the surroundings. Another four spirit had beasts appeared, along with one Heavenly Beast which was multiple times scarier than the other four, simultaneously magnificent and shocking. Their eyes all locked on Ye Wuchen. These ferocious beasts were rarely seen by ordinary people, but in this area, they almost seemed to be everywhere. Ye Wuchen’s eyes glanced at each of them, and his brows knitted more tightly together. This region was strangely covered in darkness, could there be other magical beasts that were incomparably scarier than these?

However, the ruthless air of these five enormous beasts did not last for long, almost simultaneously, their approaching footsteps stopped short, then they started to slowly back off and their limbs were slightly trembling. When the small and thin snake dashed at Ye Wuchen once again, they seemed to suffer from immense shock, and ran away quickly with a speed multiple times faster than their approach... Even the wind element Heavenly Beast whose whole body flashed with a green light.

Their exaggerated reactions had proven the dreadfulness of this Soul Snatcher Line, keeping Ye Wuchen in danger yet away from other dangers. Then, a black shadow swept past him. A delicate and flexible body leaned onto his waist—Tong Xin. Her appearance did not make Ye Wuchen feel relieved, instead it had made his hackles rise.

The speed of Soul Snatcher Line seemed faster than lightning. Outflanked again, but he still managed to evade three consecutive attacks so it shifted its target and dashed at Tong Xin who had just showed up. Tong Xin turned her gaze, dark lights suddenly flickered in her eyes, and suddenly, the Soul Snatcher Line’s body abruptly went stiff. Its leaping body had then directly fallen head first and motionless.

Ye Wuchen was not about its life and grabbed Tong Xin’s shoulder as he impatiently asked, “Where is Xue-er? Was she with you?”

The one who approached was only Tong Xin and no Ning Xue.

Tong Xin shook her head. Just like Ye Wuchen, when she was teleported here, she was all by herself.

Ye Wuchen’s heart beat suddenly quickened. Magical beasts were found throughout the area, and each of them were powerful and savage with Ning Xue all by herself...

He tightly gritted his teeth, compelling himself to remain calm and grabbed Tong Xin’s hand tightly, “Tong Xin, can you locate Xue-er’s?”

Tong Xin did not pause, extending her arms, she pointed towards the east. Having been sent to this place, the first thing she detected was Ning Xue’s weak breath, very very far away. She had floated around that area for a short while, when she had detected Ye Wuchen, so she immediately turned around and rushed towards his direction.

Ye Wuchen’s heart was slightly relieved, but urgently, he said, “Quick! We must hurry, Xue-er might be in danger.”

Ye Wuchen pulling Tong Xin along by hand, using their fastest speed, they ran towards the east. The damp wind whistled by, yet it was not able to calm his anxious nerves. He simply could not be able to maintain the tranquility in his heart if Ning Xue was not safe. As he told Ning Xue before, she was different from all the other important people in his life; she was the other half of his life, if she came into danger, he would already be half dead.

Not long after they left, the Soul Snatcher Line slowly opened its eyes. After glancing around, it panicked then used its fastest speed to move towards their opposite direction. Eventually making its way to unknown bushes, it perfectly concealed its breath. The Soul Snatcher Line also had the special characteristic of being a coward and it perfectly exhibited what was called deceiving the weak ones but fearing the strong ones.

The roaring of the beasts continuously resounded at their ears, since the surroundings were tightly crowded with different types of wild beasts. Evidently, it was not any more peaceful that the place they had just been. Thinking back, his previous location was probably more peaceful because of the presence of the Soul Snatcher Line, which had completely scared away the enchanted beasts nearby. The Cursed Thunder Wolf was most likely out of sorts as it wandered there.

“Tong Xin, move faster.”

Feeling his anxiety, Tong Xin was similarly burned impatiently. She was already at her fastest but Ning Xue’s location was still very far from them. For her to be able to feel her presence was already the extreme boundary of Tong Xin’s strength.

“If Ning Xue came to any harm, even if you are the Heavenly Fire Dragon, I will certainly make you disappear from the face of this world!” Ye Wuchen firmly clenched his teeth until it produced grinding sounds. Holding on to Tong Xin, his hand unconsciously tightened, causing her a little pain.

Waving her small hands, a heartless dark light cut the tremendous wild lion blocking their way in half. Along the path, she was doing everything she could and killed more than ten creatures, she did not dare to dally.

If one had a good view from the the sky, one could see the large patch of the dark ground, with Tong Xin and Ye Wuchen moving towards its center using their fastest speed.

Every second that passed by was like torture for Ye Wuchen; that short minute already felt like a year. Even if he was anxious, he would not dare lose his calmness. Before his eyes, the huge trees became more sparse, and continuing ahead, even the cries of beasts and insects grew fewer until they completely faded away. Aside from the sound of wind in his ears, there was no other sound that could be heard.

For something so unusual, it must have a cause. Ye Wuchen’s brows slowly raised, in a low voice he said, “Tong Xin, do you feel anything unusual?”

Tong Xin casted sidelong glances, baffled as she shook her head.

“Be careful.” Ye Wuchen cautiously said.

What reason could make those tremendous enchanted beasts unwilling to approach this place? The Heavenly Fire Dragon had mentioned the lost shrine, could it be situated there? Ye Wuchen pondered with rapt attention.

When the trees became quite sparse, Tong Xin suddenly slowed down. Ye Wuchen was startled, then asked, “Are we there yet?”

historical

Tong Xin nodded. Bypassing the last huge tree, a shabby old building that seemed like an ancient palace appeared before their eyes. In this strange region where enchanted beasts roamed, the presence of this building still had a huge impact. Tong Xin stopped at this spot, turned around and looked at him, her face exposing the sweetest and prettiest smile. Ning Xue’s breath was in front of them and completely unharmed.

“Is this the right place? Let’s quickly head inside.” Tong Xin’s expression had calmed Ye Wuchen’s worried heart. He lead her inside with quick steps.

This ancient palace did not have a gate, and the shabbiness was obvious at a glance. Ye Wuchen was about to enter, but suddenly stopped. His eyes fixed straight up, to those blurred words...

The Lost Shrine.

He slightly hesitated before entering in quick steps. For him, nothing could be compared to Ning Xue’s safety.

The palace hall was empty, with Ning Xue silently sitting in the corner of a wall, hugging a snowy white lump in her lap. While gently caressing it, she waited for brother to come find her.

When Ning Xue was sent here, she caught a glimpse of this snowy white lump curled up sleeping in the middle of the spacious and empty shrine. Its fur was pure white, similarly spotless and flawless as her skin and hair. Almost subconsciously, Ning Xue crouched down to hug this small creature in her arms. Pure white things were always attractive to her. When she moved closer, she then realized that it was not only snowy white, but its body was also producing a sweet smelling scent, making her intoxicated by its fragrance.

She loved this white small creature, and this small creature seemed to like this white headed young girl. It looked at her for a while after being woken from its sleep, yet it did not repel her. Instead, it slightly shifted in her lap to switch to a more comfortable position, then continued sleeping. That intoxicating sweet scent wiped the nervousness in her heart. As a result, she hugged it as she silently waited for brother to come.

Hearing the sound of footsteps, Ning Xue’s body nervously shrank back. But seeing that it was Ye Wuchen, she yelled out excitedly. She was about to run towards them when the one in her lap suddenly moved. The small creature which had been silent all along fiercely opened its eyes, leaped from her lap and dropped to the ground.

Ye Wuchen fully took it in with one glance. It was a very small fox, a little more ten centimeters long, and its head was almost as big as Ning Xue’s fist. Its entire body was flawlessly white, without any other colors, only its small and exquisite eyes and nose were black. At first glance, the one thing that caught one’s attention was its tail, which was definitely not fox’s tail. It was similarly hairy and snowy white, but its length was two times longer than its body, and its shape... When Ye Wuchen had first seen it, he thought of a dragon’s tail.

This small weird fox’s ears were pricking up as its round eyes directly looked at Ye Wuchen, unknown lights flickered within them.

Ye Wuchen was about to go over and hug Ning Xue, but in an instant, an enormous energy reached for his body. Just a puff of the energy caused his chest to feel like it was being pounded by a hammer, and his body flew out backwards to a corner beside the doorway.

“Brother!” Ning Xue yelled out in surprise, running towards his direction. This little fox also rushed towards Ye Wuchen at the same time. Before he could stand up, the tiny body slashed out a white lightning, its speed was so fast that it seemed to have disappeared.

In a matter of life and death, Tong Xin rushed ahead towards the small fox with the long tail. A grave expression appeared on her face, it was as imposing as the time she confronted the Heavenly Fire Dragon.

With a loud crash, the earth rumbled from black and white colliding. The ground exploded and split open with a crack of more than ten meters long, cutting through the middle of this Lost Shrine. The shabby hall was on the verge of collapsing due to the violent shaking, several cracks of different sizes appeared on its roof, dust and stones continuously fell down.

Tong Xin’s body flew backwards and penetrated through the wall, flying past more than ten meters outside the hall before she could stabilize her body. The tiny fox similarly flew, breaking through the wall in the direction opposite of Tong Xin. Ye Wuchen quickly stood up and grabbed Tong Xin’s arm, “Hurry up, let’s go!”

He finally understood why there were no other enchanted beasts here. That tiny fox that looked absolutely harmless, to his surprise, possessed an incredibly terrible strength not inferior to Tong Xin... What kind of creature was this?!

The Heavenly Fire Dragon wanted him to seek something out. Could it be this creature? Within this so-called eccentric “Lost Shrine” building, there was only this fox.

But at least one thing that was certain, this weird fox was hostile towards him and only him but he was unable to understand the source of this hostility.
