The Disciple of Aoide

Arthur chalked Lady Morgan's reaction to being distressed after being held up at this place for so long. He did not take offense to her being cautious around him. After all, he would have done the same thing. Caution was a virtue to be practiced especially around strangers.

Therefore, Arthur went on to explain his presence there. He talked about the adventurer's guild and the paintings he saw in Lady Myra's study as well as the painted worlds he had traversed so far before he reached this place.

As he explained the situation, Lady Myra was slowly being convinced by the young man. However, it was not until Arthur brought up two specific details that she believed him fully.

One was the mention of how Arthur accepted the quest from Lady Morgan as well as the key given to him by her to enter Lady Myra's place. The second one was when Arthur showed her his adventurer's license to prove to her his identity.

"So you're really here to rescue me on the adventurer's guild's behest?" Lady Myra's pudgy face relaxed in a sigh, "Morgan really came through for me this time."

With that out of the way, Arthur had some questions of his own. First was he was curious how Lady Myra managed to stay at this place for so long without food and water. When Lady Myra heard that, she frowned, "Have I been here that long? It seems like it was hours ago when I found myself at this strange place."

It seemed like time flowed differently in the painted world.

After that, Arthur asked Lady Myra about how she ended up at that place. How the whole thing came to be.

Lady Myra reached into the fold of her dress and picked out an object to show Arthur. It was a wooden paint brush that looked perfectly normal to Arthur's eyes.

"I suspect it all started with this thing," Lady Myra began to explain, "Like what you heard from Morgan, I came into this brush through a contact of mine.

"The adventurer's guild was supposed to appraise it but they were held up at the time. I know I shouldn't have but I could not help myself. If the brush is really magical, just imagine the masterpieces that I will be able to create. So without the appraisal from the guild, I went ahead to try the brush out.

"Everything was going like normal. After I finished the three paintings, I even thought I've been fooled by my contact because nothing magical happened. Yes, the paintings were good but they were not miles ahead of my other pieces."

Arthur thought these three paintings were livelier than the rest but since he was not the expert on anything related to art, he kept his mouth shut and allowed Lady Myra to continue the story.

"I was disappointed, yes but these things happen. I was in the middle of moving the finished paintings from the easel, when my finger rubbed against the surface of one. The next thing I knew, I already found myself standing at this place and has been waiting for rescue ever since."

Lady Myra had an easy time accepting she was inside her own painting. After all, she was the painter and knew her creation well, and combined with the issue of the artifact, that was the only solid conclusion in Lady Myra's mind.

Arthur thought back to what Lady Myra had said. She was considered lucky because if she had been dropped in any of the two worlds Arthur had survived, he doubted she would be able to stand there, talking to him. Arthur wondered if this was the painting being kind towards her because she was technically the creator.

Lady Myra then asked a question that brought Arthur out of his reverie, "Now that you're here, what do you suggest that we do to leave this place? The place is beautiful yes, but I've done enough sight-seeing, I wish to go home already."

Unfortunately Arthur did not have a concrete answer to that question either. So far, he had made it his goal to search for the seals but after going through multiple of them, it only led him further deeper into this series of painted worlds. Arthur was not as confident of this method as he was previously.

If only he had a way to confirm his hypothesis that hopping through the seals would eventually lead him back to the real world...

Lady Myra looked at the deep frown on Arthur's face and she could not help but worry. However, she did not blame the young man. It was already good enough that he was willing to hop through all those worlds to come save her... But wait a minute, those worlds that the young man described earlier...

Something dawned on Lady Myra and she asked Arthur for a confirmation. Arthur confirmed that he had been through the paintings, 'The Cherry Blossom Tree' and 'Snow' before he arrived at this painting called, 'The Moon.'

"Could this be a coincidence?" Lady Myra spoke to herself before turning to share with Arthur her observation, "The worlds that you have hopped through, that is the sequence I intended to display this series with. I started with 'The Cherry Blossom Tree', then 'Snow' and 'The Moon' was the last. Like you said, the seals have been transporting you through the worlds. If we find the one hidden here, shouldn't that logically transport us back to the real world? Because this is already the last."

That did sound logical and honestly was the best and only lead they had... However, there was one problem.

Arthur paused to take a look around him. The plain was barren and Arthur doubted the seal would be imprinted on the ground like how it was with the painting, 'Snow'. There was no elevation on the horizon, the line was smooth and flat.

Arthur turned to Lady Myra to ask, "Lady Myra, have you explored this area? Did you find anything resembling the seal?"

Lady Myra answered, "I've walked around but I've not seen anything like that. You can take a look around you, everything you see is everything you get."

So... How were they going to leave through the seal if they had no idea where the seal was?
