8 The Dimensional Gap
LUCIUS MALFOY DONATES MALFOY MANOR AS AN ORPHANAGE. TOO MANY MEMORIES OF YOU-KNOW-WHO FORCING THEM TO PROVIDE HOUSING. ARE THE CHILDREN SAFE?
Harry scoffed at the newspaper a ministry employee was reading. Although the Prophet was still delivered to #12, he never read anything past the front page. He shook his head at thoughts of Lucius. Whatever happens to that family will happen. He played his part in the war.
People said they heard voices when they stood near the Veil, but Harry heard nothing.
Sirus. Another mistake.
"I'm sorry Padfoot. For everything," he solemnly explained. "At least it's over now. The rat is gone and I took care of the snake."
Harry sighed and rubbed his hands together. "I got revenge for you too. Although, I knew you wouldn't be proud of me for that. I'm not proud of me for that. But... SHE DESERVED IT!"
His voice echoed throughout the chamber and the wizard paused, checking to see if anyone heard his outburst.
"At least... It's over now," he held his hand out, stable fingers held a few centimeters from the multicolored Veil in reality.
"I always hoped you were alive. I always hoped that the Veil leads somewhere," Harry continued to talk to himself. "It's not like there's any proof. Maybe it's just a way to reincarnate devils like the Hallows are."
He let out a dry laugh and felt a smirk forming on his face. "You'd already have a harem of devils by your side. You deserved the time to clean up and have fun with all you went through. Trapped in Azkaban. Trapped in your house. I always felt like you were the only one who understood..."
"I'm supposed to get married to some princess," Harry continued. "And the way Cadaer mentions harems in every conversation, you'd probably want me to go to a Veela conclave and offer them quasi-immortality. I don't know how I feel about all that, but I know you'd have something to say about it."
He pulled his hand away from the Veil, "I miss you Padfoot. I barely spent any time with you and I know you saw my father more than me most the time, but I still feel like I've known you my entire life. I should just yank you from whatever devil fantasy you're living in another dimension."
Harry hummed, "Yank you from where you're from... Accio doesn't work on living things, but I have the Elder Wand now. Plus, devil magic. I make Dumbledore look like a child, you should have seen it, I made Tom hang in the air as you did to Snivellous. Part of me thinks of him as a hero, but the other part..."
The wizard withdrew the Deathstick, "It took me losing my humanity to realize that humans are complicated. Much more complicated than magic. Magic is simple."
Harry slowly wrapped the fingers of his left hand around his right. He held his wand out, taking in a breath, "Intent and power. Studying as Hermione does is bollocks. Sacrifices like Tom made are useless in the long run. My mother saved my life somehow as a muggleborn with some spellcrafting experience. I learned she was bright, but she was nowhere near Tom's equal. She stepped aside. She knew she was going to die, just as my father did."
The devil felt his wings grow from his back, ripping his clothes. Harry whispered reverently, "Intent and power."
A magic circle grew around the Elder Wand as he focused on the image of his dogfather. British wizards and witches don't know everything. This isn't the Veil of Death. It's something else. Even if it was, death isn't the end.
Tom proved that. Devils prove that. Sirius will come back to him. He will do what he promised to do.
"Accio Sirius Orion Black."
The circle around his wand grew as sweat poured down his face. His wand heated up and felt like it would crumble to ashes, but Harry held on and continued to focus on the summoning charm like when he pulled his broom to outfly a dragon.
The Deathstick got hotter as his hands burned. Phoenix fires erupted as the wand melted into his hands. Harry's eyes were closed, but his hands were nothing but fire. The flames didn't burn his clothes or damage his wand, but they kept it where it needed to be.
Pointed at the Veil. Pointed at Sirius.
A body flew out of the Veil and Harry fell to the floor as he caught it in his arms.
It felt warm but had no pulse.
"I, Harry James Potter of the house of Beleth demand you become my bloody knight right now you stupid mutt!"
He shoved the knight piece into his chest with a force that would have bruised him if blood was flowing through his veins.
