39 A Dwarf
Casper was suspicious as he looked at the pill on his hands, but after a bit thinking he swallowed the pill. Leon didn't have poison him while he was most vulnerable state. After taking the pill, he felt a heat in his stomach, then the heat spread all over his body. The bleeding had stopped and his wounds were showing signs of healing. After about an hour, all of his wounds had healed.
Casper looked at Leon and sighed,
"If you are a good guy, why are you helping my brother?"
"If you're asking about the **** incident, your brother didn't have any relation to that incident." said Leon.
"You're saying that I did that?"
"No, you also didn't do that. You see, I can read memories." said Leon while he was smiling.
At first, Casper thought Leon had an easy-believing personalty, but after he heard that he could read memories, his face changed and looked at him with hostility.
"I didn't read much, I only looked for the **** incident." said Leon. He could understand why he was looking him with hostility. Nobody would like their memories to be read. Leon knew that his reading memories was a breach of privacy, but he didn't want to make a bad choice.
"If he didn't do it, then who did it?" asked Casper. Until now he was suspicious about his brother, but after Leon said that he could read memories, his suspicions were lessened, but didn't completely gone. He couldn't think other than his brother who could reap most benefit from that.
"Maybe someone wanted to create chaos in the fief." Leon shared his speculations. It was only his guess, but it was the most reasonable explanation. Hearing that Casper nodded, but he didn't have any guess who could do that. Assuming that Leon didn't lie.
"Either way I don't think you're the best candidate for the next marquis. Even you didn't cause the incident, your behavior in the fief wasn't the best." said Leon.
"Do you think that I want to become the next marquis? I didn't want to be chained to the position, while it's true that I oppressed the people, but all that for father to disqualify me to become the next family head. Until that gossips, I never intended to vie for the position. All I thought that my brother was the one who was smearing mud to my reputation, so you could guess the rest."
Leon nodded and understood the hidden truth of this race for the marquis position. Even before Casper said that, he already learned part of the truth from his memories. Leon knew that Casper only wanted to become a merchant like his mother's family. He didn't want any political power or he wanted to pursue road of a magus. He only wanted to pursue money and live his life in riches. He didn't even have any interest to immortality. He also understood why Casper was hostile to Theo in the city, anyone could get angry for vilification of their reputation.
Leon didn't know what to say, he was pursuing immortality, so he couldn't understand Casper. If someone had the opportunity to become an immortal, why would someone throw that away.
"If that so, you should talk to Theo about the truth. Anyway, you should come with me, you're too weak to leave alone." said Leon. After he learned that he wasn't some bad guy he didn't have the heart to leave him alone in this dangerous forest.
Casper looked a bit to Leon, in the end he nodded with head. It wasn't a bad decision for him to go with him, he already knew his limits in the forest after bleeding too much from the battles, and he didn't even such a life, fighting with the magical beast wasn't in his nature. This was one of the reasons that he didn't want to become a magus, he just wanted to have simplicity and leisure in his life, pursuing the immortality and magical power was like a constant race against time, no one would know which one would prevail.
Leon gave time to Casper, who had moments of life and death a while ago. Leon was confident in the pill and its ability to cure a wounded person, but he was sure that the pill didn't have any cure to mental trauma of death.
After Casper's complexion relaxed to a normal person rather than a victim of a traffic accident, Leon started to walk with Hermes and Casper followed them. Leon didn't have any objective in the forest other than training Hermes, so he didn't have any direction.
Casper saw that Leon didn't fight with any monster and let Hermes handle them, thought that Leon wasn't that powerful aside from having a powerful pet. He didn't look down on Leon, if he were to pursue the road of magus maybe he would, but he only felt envy.
They hunted monsters for days, or to be precise only Hermes hunted and Leon and Casper watched. Leon didn't have any reason to save Hermes anymore after all these battles. Hermes became more and more warrior like after passing his days in the forest with nothing but battles.
Leon looked at Hermes, who has slaughtered another beast with appreciation, he didn't know how the griffon was fighting, but Leon was content with his results. Leon walked to the corpse and put it in Hermes' spatial bag. Just as they were about to leave this area and find another beast to slaughter, a fire pillar rose from the north of them, and a faint scream which was hardly audible from a roar of a beast. They all looked to the north, but Leon noticed that the faint scream getting more and more loud and accompanying sounds of trees breaking and falling.
Leon had a guess that they were about to face a dragon, so he said to Hermes and Casper to get back. While Hermes got used to fighting, he was still green to face with a dragon, and Casper was Casper.
Leon didn't want to drag them in the fight so he walked to the north. While he was away, Hermes could protect Casper, so it wasn't a problem. When he got close enough, he noticed a short man with a majestic beard, he was a dwarf. A dwarf was running towards him while the trees behind him was falling down and burning.
When Leon noticed the dwarf, the dwarf also noticed him.
"What are you looking for, run away!" saying that he changed his route. Leon knew about dwarves, they were proud, but not arrogant, because of that, if they were to have a problem they wouldn't want to drag someone else to their problem, this was their pride. Even though Leon knew that, he felt appreciation toward the dwarf from this act of him. Leon didn't know how strong was the dragon behind the dwarf, but he wanted to kill it. He needed dragon blood and at the same time he could save the dwarf.
Leon ran to the falling trees, noticing that, dwarf's eyes opened wide as looked to Leon. While he was proud to not drag anyone else to his problem, he also wanted to live, so he didn't run after Leon.
"You have a dying wish!" he just said this while running away, but he didn't go far, he wanted to see if Leon was crazy or confident from a safe distance.
When the trees in front of him fell, Leon could see an enraged dragon. It was a wyvern with two legs behind and its front legs were like a bat which was joint with its wings.
"Dragon" was a collective name for any creature who carry dragon aura with them. Their bloodline would decide how much they carry, but some species would surpass this bloodline limit with their efforts. Leon didn't know which dragon species were carrying the most aura, it wasn't very clear to all of maguses.
Leon threw his spear to dragons chest and ran to it. Leon didn't encounter any dragon before, so he didn't know if it would be enough to kill it or even his spear could penetrate through its skin.
The spear couldn't penetrate and after a slight bounce it fell before the dragon. Seeing that Leon knew that he had to release his real entity because his arms couldn't reach for it while he was in human size.
With a slight shook, he began to enlarge until he reached to fifteen meters high, as he was getting bigger his clothes also enlarged with him. Leon didn't waste too much time and punched the dragon on his head. The dragon staggered back and it was bleeding from where Leon hit, but aside from that the dragon didn't look like it was hurt.
Leon inwardly nodded, he already knew that dragons were strong, but seeing that it was fine after taking a punch from his real entity, he became sure of that. The dragon became angry and released a mouthful of fire to Leon but Leon didn't evade it but directly took it. While the dragon couldn't see Leon due to fire, he took advantage of that and punched its chest with full power. The fire breath interrupted and the dragon vomited blood. Leon didn't stop there and caught it from its neck, then strangled it. The dragon was struggling, but Leon didn't let go. The dragons have strong vitality, so Leon strangled it for ten minutes, until it dropped dead.
When it had died, Leon took a vial from his inventory and collected a bit of blood, then he collected all body. He looked to his clothes, but noticed that he had a few fabric pieces on him and the rest was burned. Leon got smaller and took another cloth from his inventory and dressed.
When he looked behind him, he saw that the dwarf was there and looking Leon like he was a monster while his mouth open, so his eyes.
"Can you tell me what did you to this dragon to make it so angry?" asked Leon.
