Demi-Human In The Wrong Time

43 Refusing To Submi

Altair did not care what others thought of her maids. She didn't even care what the people in the mansion thought of her. She did care about keeping her one sanctuary to herself though. She spoke through gritted teeth, "If you don't want them to know then don't tell them. It doesn't matter to me because you are not getting into my bathroom either way."

Stacey continued to maintain her smile as she wondered just how long it would take for the child before her to give in. She knew that children could be stubborn but if you talk to them enough they would eventually give up an argument. Of course, this didn't apply to every child but it did apply to most of them. She was also testing to see how far she could push Altair before it would be too far. She had to know the limits of what she could get away with if she wanted to dress Altair up as some of her favorite characters. So, she asked, "What do we do if a servant comes to summon you while you are in the bathroom and we are out here, not cleaning you?"

Altair's eyes narrowed as she replied, "You have a brain don't you? I'm sure you can figure it out."

Stacey made a show of showing a faltering face before she seemed to steady herself before saying, "As I thought, I really cannot agree with this Young Miss. We should accompany you to help you bathe. It is only proper."

Altair glared at her with open hostility. She was getting tired of talking when she should have already been in the bathroom.

Stacey spoke before Altair could say anything though as she continued her point, "I know that you are not used to this kind of lifestyle, Young Miss. It must have been hard on you to relearn our language and it will continue to be hard on you as you grow up. But you must understand that you are now a noble lady. You will need to accept things like this going forward. We cannot let you bathe yourself just because you are uncomfortable with it."

Altair was getting more frustrated and annoyed with Stacey every time she ignored her refusals and instead tried to talk around her. She wasn't familiar with the story that Renald had cooked up and didn't know the details of it. Still, she just wanted to bathe already. The circles she was going through with Stacey were only enraging her. She just couldn't take it anymore as she shouted, "Enough! I am done having this conversation with you! You're such a naggy Human! Get out of my way so I can clean myself up and do not bother me again with this talk!"

Stacey blinked in response then shifted out of the doorway. Outwardly she looked despondent but inwardly she was smiling from ear to ear. She had found Altair's limits and, while she couldn't get to check Altair's exact measurements, she still got some useful information out of it. Besides, she could always measure Altair when she slept in the morning before she got up. She was confident she would be able to arrive before the girl had woken up.

Altair strode into the bathroom and slammed the door behind her. The layout inside mostly matched with the bathroom she had before, except that everything was more grandiose and lavish. The size of most things was also larger than before as well. The counter with the sink was significantly taller than before. It was tall enough that a stool was brought in for Altair so she could actually use the sink properly. There was the addition of a three-sectional full-body mirror placed in the corner. The bath itself had to be shifted more to the side to accommodate the additional mirror.

The reason the counter was bigger, along with a lot of the furniture of her own room itself, was because it was made for a person who was still growing into adulthood. Everything was scaled up so that they would eventually grow into being able to use everything without any assistance. The room that Altair used to have was a child's room.

Altair walked over to the sink to get one of the bath balls as the first thing she wanted to do. She stepped up on the stool with a frown, wondering why everything in this bathroom was larger than the one from her own room.

Next to the sink were all the standard bath implements that Altair was used to by now. There were moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, makeup that Altair ignored, oils, and hairclips. There was also something new, a strange circular green bar. There was one thing missing that she immediately noticed: the bath balls.

She frowned and walked back over to the door and opened it. Standing right outside was Stacey who immediately turned to head to Altair with a look of expectation. Before she could ask what Altair wanted, Altair asked, "Where are the bath balls?"

Stacey tilted her head slightly. She didn't know of anything called a 'bath ball' but she did know of something similar. "You mean a bath bomb?"

Altair's brow furrowed, "The thing you throw in the water for it to smell nice and make cleaning yourself easier."

Stacey nodded in understanding, "Ah yes, a bath bomb. Young Miss, bath bombs are mostly used for very young children who are inexperienced with cleaning themselves. That's why there are none in your bathroom. You have some standard soap in there to use instead."

The strange green bar immediately popped into her head at those words. She frowned in response to the thoughts. 'That bar doesn't seem like it will smell as nice. If I don't have those bath bombs it probably won't be as relaxing.' Altair paused for a brief moment before she declared, "I don't care how it normally is. Go and get me some bath bombs so I can bathe."

Stacey smiled indulgently toward Altair, "Very well, Young Miss. What one shall we retrieve for you?" Stacey was mentally satisfied about how Altair was acting. It was incredibly rare to come across a girl her age that acted so spoiled and childish. They just grew up so fast these days that adults couldn't enjoy their cute phase.

Altair's brows furrowed. 'There are different kinds of bath bombs? I don't even remember what kind I used before but if I leave it up to her then she's probably going to bring me something strange.'

Altair mentally chastised herself for dumping the entire box of balls out near the bath for her convenience and tossing the box aside. Ever since she did that Donel would add more of them to the pile and get rid of the boxes. That all happened before she could read so she had no idea what ones they were. She did know that there was still half a dozen in her old room though so she quickly said, "Just get the ones from my old room and bring them here. Those are the kinds that I use." She crossed her arms defensively over her chest as she felt her head getting a little hotter from her embarrassment over not knowing such a simple thing. "If you still don't know what kind they are after that, ask Donel. He's always been supplying me with them."

Stacey bowed slightly to Altair, "Very well." She then turned to Noel at the side and said, "Noel, go and do as our Young Miss ordered." As she thought about how Noel usually does things at a slow pace due to her constantly getting distracted, she added, "Take Ben with you and tell him what you're doing before you leave too."

Noel nodded in understanding before she turned away and walked two steps. She then looked over her shoulder and asked, "So I should just get the bath bombs that were in her old room then?"

Stacey's lip twitched, "Hurry up, Noel. The Young Miss wants to bathe already and you're taking up her time."

"Right," Noel replied before turning and walking out of the room.

Altair went back into the bathroom and started up the bath. This time she was able to set the settings properly as Donel had shown her how to do so. She then walked back out of the bathroom to wait for the supplies she needed to bathe with.

It took over half an hour for a trip that should have only taken ten minutes at most.

When Altair received the bath bombs she wasted no time in tossing one into the bath. She then moved to take off the cumbersome dress and found herself at a loss.

She had no idea how to remove such a bulky and unwieldy piece of clothing. She could probably tear it off if she put some strength into it. However, the dress looked gorgeous and expensive. If she damaged it she might anger Renald and it wouldn't be good to do that one day one of their deal. She still needed to get more of a feeling of how he was before she tried anything like that.

She also couldn't take a bath with the dress on either.

She begrudgingly looked at the door out of the bathroom and sighed heavily. She really didn't want to ask either of the two maids for help. Still, if she had to choose she would pick Noel to do it. Stacey was just too dangerous.

She walked over to the door and opened it. Stacey was still standing in the same spot as before.

Stacey asked, "Is something the matter, Young Miss," as Altair looked around for Noel. She didn't appear to be in the room.

Altair responded, "Where is Noel?"

"Noel went to fetch you dinner," she replied with bright eyes full of expectations. She then quickly asked, "Is there something I can help you with, Yong Miss?"

Altair frowned at her and went silent for several long moments before finally saying, "I can't get this dress off. Help me remove it." She really had no choice since Noel wasn't around. She was already impatient enough about not being able to bathe so quickly and didn't want to waste anymore time even if she didn't like how it was going to be done.

Stacey immediately pounced on the opportunity with a golden smile that seemed slightly crooked, "Of course, Young Miss!"
