Heretic in the Heavens

25 Kewang Tian – Natural Born Spirit Walker Part 2

Kewang Tian was now sitting in a bamboo hut. Lie Qu Shin had been kind enough to take him straight to a healer to mend his feet. It hadn't taken long, as the city where the Abyssal School was based was only a few miles from the river – Green Stone City.

While on the journey Kewang Tian asked many questions about the City and the Abyssal School. He had found out that this had been their base of operations for the past thousand years! Such a School was extremely prestigious and had deep roots. In fact, it was the number one school in the lower continent!

One of the things that set Abyssal School apart from the other schools is that it would offer talented students, who are about to graduate positions, paying them a fair wage and allowing them to pursue whatever they wish. The freedom that this provides allows many practitioners, alchemists, and blacksmiths to join them! Finally, there is one thing, that no Sect or Clan has, but the Abyssal School does – A Spirit Hall!

Spirit Halls were communing places for an art called Spirit Binding! Which was known to Kewang Tian as Spirit Walking.

Spirit Binders were terrifying people to of the lower continent, because of the power they once held. There was once an extraordinarily talented Spirit Binder called 'Sen Ji', who managed to bind an army of spirits and conquer the lower and middle Black Dragon Continent!

It was a golden age for the Spirit Arts, and Sen Ji was at its helm. He erected palaces made of a valuable material known as Green Stone. A rather dull stone, which was by no means attractive. But what it did something much better than look pretty – it increased the power of Spirit Binders.

It was believed that Green Stone City was one of the many retreats he had constructed so that when he got tired of his so-called Empire, he had a peaceful place to rest.

It would not last though. As many know, pride is the downfall of man. And who is more prideful than a self-made Emperor?

In his arrogance, Sen Ji tried to bind a Sovereign Beast in the Spirit World. A nine-tailed fox!

When he went into his dream he announced to his Empire that when he returned he would turn his eyes towards the Upper Continent – The Land of Heavenly Way!

Alas, he was wrong. Upon his return all thought he was successful, binding the Nine-tailed fox to his will. The beast even had a name, Nerubis!

It was only a matter time until things started to go wrong. His Empire started to rebel, as the cultivators grew bolder and bolder, even assassinating one of his many wives!

His ministers that had served just as faithfully as death soldiers started to grow in discontempt of their Emperor.

Finally, his hold over the Spirits bound to him – they had started to Rebel! Unbeknownst to Sen Ji, the Spirit Emperor had made one fatal mistake. He had tried to bind Nerubis! It even seemed Nerubis was willing in his offer, but for one simple reason – balance.

Nerubis was the equivalent of a God-King in his own little corner of the Spirit World, yet his subjects kept disappearing repeatedly, causing it to become enraged. So, it came up with a plan to destroy this so-called Empire and cause it to fall into ruin.

And so, it came, the Legacy of Sen Ji almost ended that day. He was repeatedly pushed back, by either political, social, or personal failure! He made his last stand at the place called GreenStone City, where he stockpiled all his Green Stone.

In the end, he realised that it was Nerubis that had caused his failures and had manipulated his empire!

He wasn't going to suffer this from a Spirit, so he sought out his rival in Spirit World. The Sovereign Beast of Lightening!

It was unknown how the fight ended, all the historians knew, is that this battle was cataclysmic, and had caused many cultivators and Spirit Binders to die permanently, and worst off most of the Green Stone that Sen Ji had stockpiled had suddenly shattered!

Thinking about this, Kewang Tian couldn't help but think about the Spirits he had met in Spirit World. How did they compare to those almighty sovereign beasts?

Ming Yue couldn't help but snort.

"Sovereign beasts – pathetic. Those old Spirits that you met had learned humility. Some Spirits decide to take the form of Beasts, I don't know why the vanity? All Spirits are naturally formless and take shape around their aspects. For example, the Ying-Yang spirit pair, are just two carps that circle each other." She couldn't help but shake her head.

"Wait, something as powerful as Ying-Yang Spirits are just Carps?" Kewang Tian was surprised, why would anything that powerful, and have that much influence take such a form?

"Many of their representations yes."

[Many of their representations? I – what?]

Seeing his confusion, Ming Yue couldn't help but sigh to herself.

"Do you think there is only one Ying-Yang Spirit? There are many. Where ever there is a push or pull sun or moon they are there. It is just that they are formless and do not appear. But eventually, if there is a force of Ying-Yang for enough time, and the situation presents itself, the formless will take form. And illusion will become reality, the Spirits will become real."

Kewang Tian's eyes were so wide, he couldn't believe what she just said. [Spirits form naturally from the world around them?]

"They used to." Her words caught in her throat.

"Now they are born from the Spirit Trees." Silently cursing underneath her breath, so that even Kewang Tian couldn't hear.
