Rise of The Immortal Wraith

15 A Lords Work Is Never Done

Moving through the ruined outer city was spine chilling, knowing not long ago that there had been an abundance of life here that had been quickly snuffed out from existence, bones from destroyed skeletons littered the streets an alleyways.

Salem and his knights had ventured into the dead city to test their abilities on actual targets, Not having the time to test most of his abilities yet he was getting excited at the thought of getting a chance to test his strength.

Stopping now that they could hear the sounds of battle a few streets away, Salem took out from his pocket dimension his gauntlets he had crafted for himself, along with a silver mask for each of his knights and one for himself.

The Knights' masks were flat silver with two tiny horns and the eyes would remain black, but the mouth was absent. His own mask was similar but the horns were larger, and there was a demonic smile carved into the mask, making it seem as if the devil had finally found you.

Other than horns on each of the masks was the Belegast Clan Crest on the forehead, the masks stayed in place without straps thanks to an enchantment placed on them. They raised their hoods and donned the wraith armor overlapping with the robes.

Salem could feel the armor overlap with his robes, making a second skin of iron hard scale plate armor, the armor ability even grafted his gauntlets into the ability making it stronger adding power to the enchantments.

His armor looked like silver in the deep shadow, adding to his look like a nightmare come to life. They walked from an alley almost directly into the fighting, the Knights spread out giving each other room to fight but were close enough if they needed to assist one another.

They summoned their weapons and cleared a path, Salem activated his but no weapon appeared in his hand. He could feel his weapon, it was a tendril of energy that formed a single tail, he swung it out towards a skeleton, it sent the skeleton flying off into the crowd of undead.

"Well that was satisfying, I wonder what else I can do with it?" He swiped again this time top to bottom and crushed a skeleton into fragments, then he tried using it like a spear and thrust it into a skull puncturing out of the back. Smiling with surprise he continued to test his new weapon, as he destroyed the skeletons he noticed the leftover soul energy slowly dissipating.

Moving his tail through one he used to bring it into his body, he felt the soul energy strengthen and heal his soul, though it wasn't by a lot to him this was exactly what he needed.

There were thousands of the skeletons, he would be able to fully recover with just a few hundred he was so excited he started laughing and moving forward into the crowd of medicine.

His tail would crush or stab skulls left and right, and he would devour all the soul energy near him like a man who had been in the desert alone and thirsty he found his oasis. He started to let a few skeletons get close so he could use his gauntlets, breaking bones with his hands, he felt the rush of combat enter his veins. He would sweep his tail and take the soul energy that the knights left behind he also watched as they moved together and broke through the enemy line.

After thirty minutes of continuous destruction and healing, Salem was feeling physically drained, they were almost where the city lord had been fighting since they had arrived. They pushed for another twenty minutes finally breaking out of the encirclement of skeletons, marching toward the humans who backed up with slight apprehension towards the newcomers who didn't look undead but were definitely not normal.

Calling out to ease their minds and clear the confusion he yelled, " City lord, are you here it is me Salem Belegast, here to bring good news and a few extra weapons!" looking for the large man he spotted him crushing a skull with the hilt of his weapon. Moving towards the city lord Salem would occasion lash out and destroy an undead absorbing the soul energy he was very close to mending the wounds on his soul and he wouldn't give you this chance to heal it either.

"Welcome to the front Lord Belegast!" said the city lord as he broke another skull open releasing more soul energy which Salem had been collecting as much as he could. From the humans' side of the battle, hundreds of undead had perished and left him a glorious meal.

Pulling out a large bundle of weapons from his pocket dimension he tossed a sword to the city lord who caught it midair and slashed an undead approaching him. The sword's edge glowed on contact destroying it in a single swing, laughing the city lord kept swinging until the area around him was clear.

"These blades were meant to destroy the undead, it's a natural bane to them. Though higher undead won't suffer as much as these cannon fodder, it can injure them greatly. I planted the first of the obelisks so any undead of these types won't be able to enter through that safe zone. I would recommend retreating soon it will be nightfall soon Lord Nolan, wouldn't want to be out here when the elites show up." Salem left with his knights back to the edge of the battlefield.

" Protect me for a moment," he faced the lesser undead as he attempted to take over a weaker undead, he cast his command undead and felt a struggle of energy like when he ate that first soul, he moved his tail to touch the skeletons forehead and tried to soul brand the creature. Unexpectedly it was easy to brand the weak undead, it must have been its master who did not foresee this as an issue or didn't care, but that would be my gain he thought.

He placed a pile of robes he had enchanted on the ground along with boots and gloves that had been prepared in case he had succeeded, only wishing he had brought more.

An hour passed in a flash he now had sixty skeletons dressed behind him, he would need more robes for later but for now, he was exhausted, and needed rest so they marched to the gate, bringing his undead through the gate went as planned. The robes protected his minions from the obelisks power so that he could achieve having an undead labor force for the tunnel that would not need to eat or rest.

No one bothered with his forces due to another enchantment on the cloaks, it didn't make them invisible, it just made them seem normal to be there. They finally reached the mansion, he ordered the skeletons to wait outside and not to move, walking inside he went to the dining room to find the children eating dinner. The room quieted down as he made his way to the head of the table where he and his knights sat and waited for the servants to bring them food.

They ate in silence, " Good night children, soon I will give you all a gift that will help you throughout the remainder of very long lives." Salem said as he went to bathe and nourish his body, once he and his knights were clean they went to his room to change, entering he stopped briefly as he saw his assistant Sasha who helped him with smithing, except there was another girl with near exact features standing and talking with her.

Coming to a realization, " Sasha you never said you had a sister, a twin at that, is there a particular reason you brought her to my chambers?" he asked wondering why she would break a rule that only knights were allowed inside this room.

"Master, this is my sister Sarah, and Jenna brought her here as one of the recruits and she just wanted to ask you if you would accept her into one of your knights along with the others of her team," she nodded and he noticed three other girls on the other side of the room who had been whispering.

He looked at Jenna who was smiling at him, he smiled back, " I guess a lords work is never done" turning back he saw something he didn't expect to see within a hundred years, Sasha was on the bed kissing Sarah who had been stripped naked, she broke the kiss and gasped looking over her shoulder she wiggled her butt at him, "Come on Master, make me your knight!"
