Rise of The Immortal Wraith

8 Who are you?

Sitting on top of the wall, Salem watched this strange scene unfold, "Are they not concerned about the undead legion still outside their gates? You would have some kind of mental disease to only be concerned about your own family at a time like this." Salem voiced aloud, without lowering his voice the words carried over the quiet courtyard to the crowd.

Turning to look up at the young voice, the crowd were stunned to see a beautiful elf sitting on the wall overlooking them. "I am the Lord of this city, who are you to disrespect me in my own home elf!?" the city lord yelled, a little bit of spittle leaving his mouth. Scrunching his brows he thought to himself that he didn't have much of an identity or connections that his maker had told him to gain so he used his only resource at his disposal.

"System, what should I do?" He felt the system working in his mind when he heard that cold female voice once again, "Master Salem, we recommend purchasing knowledge on certain subjects to increase your mental acuity for moments like this.

Okay but I need a solution now, I don't have time to study on how the Nobility likes to do business!"

he complained to the cold-hearted system. " Of course Master Salem, there will be a price of ten thousand CP for this plan and you will need to choose a clan name, listen and follow our instructions to the smallest detail, do you accept?"

"Yes, I accept, can I use my makers' clan name? To which the system replied "no", without further explanation. Thinking to himself that the system was a bit mean, he asked again, "System what is the elvish word for void?" Out of spite, the system gave him a long list of words with similar meanings and connections to "Void" but the one he chose felt a little grander than the others. He told the system his choice, and the system gave him his desired way out of this sticky situation he had stumbled into.

He stood up, putting on a look of disdain he spoke down to the human, " I am Salem Belegast, last of my clan, Master of enchantments and Forgelord. If you don't lower your tone and show some proper respect I will leave you and this city to fall beneath the undead legion that has been slaughtering your people all night, as for your daughter, I'm assuming its the girl whos battered body I dragged here from the outer wall.

So it is your choice to either to continue this nonsense and let your people die or we can have a nice discussion while we talk about my services" keeping a look of annoyance while looking into the grey eyes of the city lord.

Standing to the side the mage in red and white robes placed a hand onto the city lords shoulder, turning to the mage they had a quiet but brief conversation, the city lord took a deep breath and turned back to the young elf, "I apologize, lord Belegast, for the misunderstanding when it comes to my daughter I can be a little overprotective, Men! secure the gates any civilians can be brought in if any come forward.

Drop the portcullis if the enemy charges the gate, everyone else, get into the city. Lord Belegast, if you would please follow my guards they will provide you room, I need to make preparations for the siege and then we can have a proper discussion." Salem nodded and followed the two guards who had reported him to the city lord.

The keep wasn't the actual keep of the castle it was only a second wall leading into the inner city that couldn't be seen from the outer city due to the sheer height of the wall and being twenty feet thick it would hold against any war machines for an extended war without needing repairs. The small gate they had entered had only lead into a small fort to protect the massive iron gates.

Moving through the inner city gate Salem looked up along the walls and ceiling had holes large enough for spears to be thrust out of sending a small shiver down his spine at the thought of hundreds of spears piercing towards him. Moving into the city proper they boarded a carriage and set off towards the castle, most of the citizens were not panicked or even looked scared that they were essentially surrounded by thousands of enemies.

The ride from the wall to the castle gates lasted thirty minutes of uninterrupted silence, right up until my escorts explained why we here and moved into a courtyard with a respectively well-sized mansion. "Lord Belegast we hope this is an acceptable residence while you stay here Koftas if there is anything you need just let one of the maids know and we will do our best to accommodate. The city lord will send word when they are ready." Bowing slightly the guards left on foot walking towards the castle proper.

Walking through the mansions front doors he was greeted by twelve maids, six on each side of the aisle, "Welcome home master!" they called simultaneously. After a moment of shock, he recovered his wits and replied, " Please take me to my room and have a meal prepared also ill need a change of clothes similar to mages with more flexibility. Is there a smithy and enchanting table on the premises? If not I need a set of tools prepared for each" he said walking past a few of the maids.

One maid walked forward and lead towards the second floor, "There is a smithy connected but to my knowledge, there is no enchanting table in the house but I will send a request to the castle. Clothes and food are being prepared and I will inform them of your desires, "Reaching the second floor and reaching a set of double doors the maid proceeded to open one and held it ajar for him.

"If there is any else you need master please pull the rope near the bed and someone will come to serve you." She bowed slightly revealing a little cleavage before taking her leave and closing the door behind her.

Walking forward he sat on the massive bed on the other side of the room, he took in a shaky breath as he remembered the scene from the alley last night, "Its really good to be alive." he said in a shallow voice before passing out on the most comfortable bed he has ever slept on, well the only bed he has ever slept on.
