81 A cozy evening

29th day, the month of Sephri, the year 1661.

Sitting atop the warehouse rooftop, Lucas watches the clouding with a solemn look. He wondered just how many people will survive this ordeal or even when will the attack comes, the anxiousness of the whole waiting game are slowly putting more and more unfavorable outcome and outlandish ideas into his head.

Next to him, his friend Elea are maintaining his bow and checking it for damages. At first glance he would look calm but if one look closely one can spot the faint eleven forming on his forehead and he seem to be in deep thoughts.

As for why the two are up here rather than discussing the strategy with the rest of the guild down underground, that would be because Jack, Lucas father, barred them from joining in after they report in about getting the weapon.

It honestly upset him to no end that his father still treat him like a child and tried to shelter him from the dark side of reality when he is mentally older than him.

Of course, he doesn't know that little fact but which person could just walk up to their parents and say they are a reincarnator and are technically a great grandpa compared to them without sounding seemingly delusional?

Sighing, he decides to break the silence that's been there for a while.

"Hey Elea, don't you think it's a bit unfair to exclude us after everything we went through?"

"Give it up Lucas, I know what you're thinking. Just leave it to the adult for coming up with the countermeasures and just think about what you will do to appease Stephanie for leaving her behind with Luna."

"Guh... You make it sound like I abandoned her or something."

"Are you not?"

"Fair enough."

...

"Hey Elea, do you think that-"

"No I don't think Ms. Emilia knows about this. Sure she made preparation for large scale conflict within her academy but it feels like she is preparing for something of a much bigger scale than this and yes I believe the academy will survive this mess."

"If you believe so then it must be true, I won't worry needlessly about it then."

Turning his attention to the clueless pedestrians below the small smile that appears from his small conversation turn into a frown. If possible, he wishes to be able to keep the current peaceful situation they have. If possible, he wishes for no one to die as long as he is here.

But he knows reality best, there will be many of these people who won't see their family anymore and many will weep the loss of loved ones.

Letting out another sigh, he stood up and turn to face the guild member that had come up to call him.

"Young master, the madam is looking for you. would you please follow me to meet her?" he asked with a polite smile.

"Of course, she is my mother why wouldn't I want to meet her." he said as he glance towards his friend, who raise his hands as if saying he had nothing to do with this, before returning his focus to the young member. "lead the way."

Giving a slight bow, the young man climb back down through the opened window behind him. Giving Elea another glance, Lucas sigh before following after the young man all the while his thoughts are occupied with thoughts of why his mother calls him.

Casually sipping her tea, Emilia stare out her office window, directly into the capital in the distant.

"So it's finally starting, from the looks of it it'll take only a week and a few days before this country fall. Stuart, are the preparation complete yet?" As soon as she spoke the name, a man in grey robe appears in the room kneeling on one leg.

"Yes my lady, the academy are ready to be warp at your command." the man said with a deep heavy voice, his facials hidden by his full robe and hood.

"Good, once the flames of war blaze over the capital we are abandoning this country."

Nodding as a response, the man disappear from the room. Leaving it once more in silence.

"It's too bad I couldn't find the thief kid, but at least I acquire one of the main actor of the future's play. I just have to play my cards right and I can ensure the safety of my current and former followers."

Sipping her tea once more, she said with an amicable smile. "Don't disappoint me now little puppet, you will be my primary weapon in this project."

*Achoo*

"Catch a cold kid? Have you finally become normal?" Leo tease with a big grin, resulting the boy sitting across of him to groan.

"Ugh.. that's low, but more importantly look at this!" he said before taking something out of his inventory.

Never in his 50 or so years of lifespan has he seen something as ugly as what the kid take out.

The doll are just all kinds of wrong. The doll outer appearance are that of miscolored clothes with some part being stretch stiff which would strain the material it is made of and on some other parts the cloth are stitch excessively which make it look like it have flabs of fat.

If that isn't enough the kid command it to bark and, oh sweat mother of nature, and it bark. But it's sound did not match it's dog physique, it let out an unholy bark which sounds like a mix between a bird's cawing, a snarl, and moan of pain.

The kid had this incredibly proud and loving look once he heard the thing.. bark.. and praise it for doing a great job. Next he told it to backflip and behold, the thing did a backflip but it also managed to rip it's stomach open as it do so and it's cotton stuffing scatter all over the table.

They both sit there frozen from what they saw and for a moment he thought he saw the boy's eyes turn glossy with tears.

The boy collect all the stuffing before taking out some needle and thread then proceed to fix the thing.

"It's not completely ready yet but I'm sure once I trained more on this I can make something far better than this little cutie. Just you wait, I will make something no one ever see one day." he said brimming with confidence and determination, completely focusing on the thing and missing Fiona and her little tails entering the dining room minutes ago and also missing them stood frozen at the entrance once they saw the abomination at the hardwood table.

He really wants to tell the kid to give up on this one branch of alchemy but he can't bring himself to after seeing the kid's eyes. So instead he only tell him to look for someone else to make the outer appearance and recording an actual living creature for its voice. the kid only nod and gave a slight smile, still focusing on the thing.

The kid seems to trust and appreciate his words more than the rest of the people in their home, which only serve to make him feel even more guilty.

The boy and his first girlfriend had grown on him and the fact he gave reports to his lady every week about all that the boy are up to make him feel like he is betraying him.

Taking a sip from the bottle in his hand, he gave out a satisfied moan. Alcohol had been what he used to numb his guilt as of late and his daughter seem to catch on to it as she let him do so as long as he doesn't drink himself wasted.

For the rest of the time before dinner, he watches the kid tried adding strips of clothes on it so it have more "flesh" to move with and it won't rip itself apart. It works but it also serve to make it even more ugly than before and could spy Fiona giving it uncomfortable glances from the kitchen area behind the kid.

He could understand, after all he himself are uncomfortable with the gaze the thing keep training on him. He even had the urge to actually tell the kid to put the thing out of its misery but his guilt prevent him from doing so.

Sighing, he took another sip from the bottle and close his eyes to avoid further contact. Out of sight, out of mind.

He just hope this torment will be over soon so he can drink in peace and not have two little girls braiding his long hair.
