99 2nd Day
"...Ke..ake...wake up... hey, wake up!"
"Ng... Five more minutes.."
"Ugh, this is stupid."
*Whack*
"Gah! What the hell is that for?!" Woken up by a sudden hit, Vayne complained.
"Shut up, it's almost time for her to come so I'm making some last minute checks. How's the performance, any discomfort?" Kat asked, still with her usual frown.
It took Vayne a moment to digest what she's asking, he said "The body's performance are honestly fine but it is still hard to tell for sure since our activity yesterday are quite basic."
"True, I couldn't get any combat data from your black box. Without any combat I couldn't give specific adjustment to fit your fighting style." She said, nodding. She then took out her cross like gizmo and turn it red. Unlike yesterday, Vayne drop on his feet and quickly straightened his posture.
"She should be here any moment now, any thing you like to complain about?" she said, moving towards her benches
Pondering for a bit, he said "The height, I'm too short."
Kanyarat stops in her tracks before turning to him, brows raised. If Vayne have brows of his own he would return the look.
If his estimations are correct, then he is only 5'0"ft tall while Kat is only 4'7"ft tall. None of them could compare to the 6'2"ft tall Primrose!
Kat raised he wrench, possibly to hit Vayne again, but before she could do anything a familiar voice resound in the room.
"Hey sorry I'm late, I got a friend to join us for today's... What's happening?" Prim said as she enters, pausing when she sees Kat with her wrench up high and Vayne who looks ready to bolt at any moment.
"Oh so you're here.. and I see you brought Elgrez with you. Whatever, hurry up and go, I'm busy." saying so, Kanyarat took Vayne's hand and pull him towards Prim before ushering them all out of her workshop.
Once at the street, the gang stood there looking lost for a bit.
"Uh.. I believe introductions is in order?" she said, gesturing to the large robot next to her, she continued "This is Elgrez, he is a demolition specialist. If you wonder about his bulky cybernetic body it's because he have a strength focused settings."
The person in question, Elgrez, nod to affirm Prim's words and also to acknowledge Vayne before going still once more.
"... So where are we headed today?" Vayne asked after a moment of awkward silence.
"Right, hold on a sec." Nodding, Prim fiddle with some kind of screen pad on her glove. A screen then pops up in front of him, showing a map and a travel plan to a large dead plain among the ruins he could only assume as a park once. The map also shows time calculation and power consumption prediction and weather prediction.
"The place I wanted to take you are heavily infested with monsters so for today I thought it would be best to test your combat prowess with your new body. After all, I need the data if I want to make accurate calculation of our survival chances. Don't worry the place we are heading to are relatively safe, it's where new hunters are taken for their first assignment after all."
She then proceed to explain more about what they will do but Vayne's attention wasn't on her anymore. He was more interested in why she emphasize on the word "safe" and the term "hunter".
'Do they work the same way as adventures or do they work like mercs?' he thought, crossing his arms as he did and giving occasional remarks to Prim.
He only abandon his thoughts when Prim finally gesture for them to follow her.
'Well, I'll figure it out one day.'
.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
Vayne stood there, staring into the dying dog cow hybrid in front of him with his titanium combat daggers dripping fresh blood.
It took them a good twenty minutes to reach the park and since then they left him with a task of hunting 10 cogs and 5 piggions before they move to another location, discussing what appears to be a battle plan for something bigger.
Vayne thought this assignment would be easy, he will just have to walk around and track his prey like he did in the previous world. But no, he had search the area for 15m and couldn't find a single track, all he finds is this creature which he assume are one of his target.
In the 8 minutes he had spent bringing the thing down, he finally realize this task is not easy at all. The cogs are fast and will always attempt to escape you at all cost.
Checking his EN bar he could see he only had about 84% left, much less than he hope he would have. It also prove that the more he moves and the more complicated it is, the more EN he will spent.
Sighing, he uses his item compressor module and compress the cog carcass into a capsule before storing it in his item compartment.
He still need to hunt another 14 creatures and he can't afford to waste more energy. As he walk to find more prey, he finally decided to use the scan module. He really regret not using it earlier since it shows a lot of his targets watching him silently among rubbles while trying to hide themselves.
Looking through his options he rules out any form of melee since they will just run off, leaving him with the few ranged options he have.
Choosing the simplest one with the smallest mana cost, he raise his hand and aim it at one of he hiding cogs.
He could feel the mana being directed from his chest towards his open palm, it then manifest into a marble sized white orb before zooming onto the direction he pointed.
The marble or rather mana bullet, pierce through the hiding cog skull and continue its way through the intestines and torso until it come out from the back. Only dispersing once it hits the ground.
Vayne had no time to be amazed by the wonder of his modules as he quickly move both his hands to aim at the now escaping group of cogs and shoot them all down.
Only after killing all of them did he look at his hands in wonder.
"This will be a lot of fun."
