Chapter 60 The Crime Scene
I came over quickly, pulling the angry Shi Yitong aside. “Hey, hey! What are you doing? What’s wrong?”
When Shi Yitong saw me, he stopped arguing with Wen Jiubo snorted a little before walking away. “What an untrustworthy man.”
“Alright, quarreling won’t solve our problem,” I sighed while patting Shi Yitong’s back.
I didn’t know why Shi Yitong always held a hostile attitude towards Wen Jiubo. Maybe it was because of his grandfather’s death, he never forgave Wen Jiubo for that and resented him.
“It seems your best friend doesn’t like me,” Wen Jiubo whispered in my ear after Shi Yitong walked away.
“Don’t mind him, his character is like that,” I said.
“It appears you haven’t told him about what happened when we were in Beining city.” Wen Jiubo smiled.
“Uh?” I was confused.
“The story about me being your boyfriend for a week.” Wen Jiubo smiled even more brilliantly.
All right, now I know why Shi Yitong hates him so much. After hearing this, I immediately stepped on his foot and walked away, ignoring him yelping in pain.
Shi Yitong walked in front, he normally would be carefree and chattering about, but now he had a sullen face with deep frown lines on his forehead.
“You missed a lot of things last night,” I said as I caught up to him.
“Do you mean the Devil’s Night and Su Xiaoyun?” Shi Yitong asked.
I paused for a second before nodding, “You know about it already?”
Shi Yitong nodded. “Earlier this morning, my Goddess came over saying she wanted to tell me something important. I thought she was about to ask me out, but instead, she told what happened last night in the grove and something about her curse.”
“Oh, alright.”
I planned to tell Shi Yitong myself because I thought he would have an easier time coping with this whole thing if he heard it from me.
“I didn’t expect from Su Xiaoyun to hide her secret from us for so long,” Shi Yitong said, depressed. “I didn’t tell her about your relationship with Mr. Wen because I thought it would keep her safe.”
Hearing this, I smiled bitterly. “She had no other choice. Maybe Su Xiaoyun chose not to tell us because she wanted to keep us safe.”
Shi Yitong seemed to be convinced. He nodded without saying a word.
The three of us went into the campus through the back gate and soon arrived at the building. As we expected, the police had set up a perimeter with yellow barricade tape, and many police officers were standing around the building. Apparently, the scale of the investigation was much larger than the last time. After all, three people had died already. They should pay attention to this case.
“Em? It’s weird.. Su Xiaoyun isn’t here,” Shi Yitong muttered.
“What’s the matter?” I asked.
“Uh, nothing. I asked Su Xiaoyun to meet me here, but I don’t see her.” Shi Yitong looked around but didn’t see his Goddess.
“Maybe she’s late, give her some time,” I said.
I didn’t see my roommates either. There were only a few students around the building, the police probably drove them away. I called the dorm head Di Zizhen. He sounded exhausted.
“..It’s fine, I’m fine. I’m alright, we’re doing alright,” he repeated incoherently. “We wanted to stay there until you arrived, but the police blocked off the surrounding area, so we came back. We’re relieved to hear that you two are safe, but be careful, I’m worried about you.”
“Don’t worry, I’m with Wen Jiubo now. You stay in the dorm and don’t go outside until it’s safe,” I said to him. “I promise you all, I swear that Wen Jiubo and I will solve this. Zhou Lang will not die. We’ll do whatever we can to save him, don’t worry.”
I heard the dorm head sigh over the phone, “Okay, be safe.”
I nodded. But he spoke again before I hung up the phone.
“There’s one more thing..” He paused for a second before saying, “Gu Yu, thank you.”
I smiled. “I did nothing. It’s me that should thank you guys for taking care of me for so long.”
After hanging up the phone, I looked around. Wen Jiubo once again had disappeared while I was on the phone.
“He went inside.” Shi Yitong pointed to the building, and I saw Wen Jiubo standing over there.
“There are so many policemen here, can he go inside?” I muttered and scanned the crowd. Unexpectedly, I found a familiar face in the crowd.
“That’s..” I narrowed my eyes.
Yes, it was him. A tall and slim figure with a handsome face, he was the police deputy of city C, an acquaintance of Wen Jiubo. I met him once during the investigation of Wang Zhong’s case. I recalled his surname was Yan.
I was surprised that Wen Jiubo actually had a plan. He had the ability to summon the police deputy here to help. I quickly walked over.
“Mr. Wen, you always give me trouble.” The police deputy looked at Wen Jiubo who had literally given him a headache. “Next time, could you please find someone else? I have a whole police department to manage, I can’t always come to help you whenever you want.”
Wen Jiubo smiled gently. “Oh, Captain Yan, you misunderstand me. It’s not like I’m the murderer. I just want to find out the truth as much as you do. Besides, I know you. You and your girlfriend wouldn’t just watch them die without doing anything, would you?”
“My girlfriend——Don’t cross the line, I warn you. If you dare to hijack me on the road again, don’t blame me if Yang Wenbin stabs you, do you hear me?” The captain was amused and angry at the same time. He pointed his finger at Wen Jiubo, but he didn’t find anything to say, so he lowered it.
“I have no other choice but to ask you for help. If the victims’ families cremate the bodies in advance, even God himself won’t be able to save them.” Wen Jiubo smiled while passing through the yellow barricade tapes. He then added shamelessly, “Captian Yan, saving a life is more virtuous than building a seven-tiered pagoda.”
