Finding Stardust

194 The Kings Decision

Therius saw Emma clenching her fists to her sides. Because she was angry, she used a lot of strength that her knuckles turned white.

The prince frowned as he realized Emma was feeling enraged by something. Unfortunately, he couldn't figure out what Emma was thinking. He had his suspicion, but he couldn't be sure yet.

Meanwhile, Emma was struggling to extinguish the anger that now filled her chest. She looked away and avoided Queen Ygrit from her line of sight. She was afraid that she would explode and make a scene.

It took Emma a lot of effort and exerting all her sanity to not hit that annoying old hag in the face.

Among the five people in the dining room, only Therius knew Emma very well because they spent 6 months together, as they traveled from earth to Akkadia.

The young man wasn't sure what was bothering Emma, ??but he could tell that the girl was furious. Even though there was no expression of anger or hatred on Emma's face, Therius could see Emma's fists clenched.

Discreetly, the prince touched Emma's arm to calm her down. He wanted to show her that he was there, and he would support Emma. Whatever it took.

As Emma felt her arm was touched, she glanced at Therius and then took a deep breath. After regaining control of herself, she finally turned to talk to King Cassius.

"Your Majesty, I am just a young girl without the power to back me up. How can I become a threat to such a great and glorious empire like Akkadia?" asked Emma in an earnest voice. "If Your Majesty thinks that Akkadia needs to fear someone like me, it's your problem, not mine. As I have said earlier, I prefer to talk about people who are still alive. Maybe my outlook on life is a little different from the average person because I used to live alone for a dozen years."

Queen Ygrit narrowed her eyes, and she was about to say something again, but King Cassius raised his hand, signaling that no one would speak. Although she still looked annoyed, Queen Ygrit finally stepped back and sat in her chair.

Yldwyn touched the queen's shoulder gently and smiled reassuringly. Her beautiful face filled with a sweet smile managed to quickly soften Queen Ygrit's anger towards Emma just now.

The truth was, Emma had absolutely no problem with Yldwyn. However, when she remembered Queen Ygrit's cruel treatment to her and her family was to help pave the way for Yldwyn to marry Therius, Emma became angry again.

And if her guess was right, that it was Queen Ygrit who was responsible for her father's execution...

Emma would not forgive her.

In fact... she would make it her life goal to make this old hag pay!

Seeing the atmosphere getting tense, Therius then spoke up. He wanted to help Emma convince King Cassius to let her leave Akkadia.

"Grandfather, If you feel you can't trust Emma, ??I can come up with another solution to make your heart calmer," Therius said firmly. "I can vouch for Emma. I will guarantee that she will not run away like Princess Arreya. If I failed to bring Emma back to Akkadia as you want, then I am willing to lose my position as the Crown Prince."

Everyone in the room gasped at Therius's words. It was completely unexpected.

"Prince Licht, please don't act rashly..." This time even Yldwyn, who had been silent and trying not to interfere, couldn't help herself. She called Therius worriedly.

Therius ignored the girl's concerned look. He continued his words. "If I can't control my own wife and make sure she obeys the king's orders, then you may consider me unfit to be a king."

Emma, ??who was very surprised at Therius' words, turned to him with rounded eyes. It was very difficult for her to believe her own hearing.

Did Therius mean what he said or was he just bluffing? Emma knew how much Therius wanted to be the king of Akkadia. She could see this from the various efforts he made to secure his position and how he had endured various political intrigues in the palace over the years.

However, today he could so easily give up his position as Akkadia's future king for Emma's sake. The girl didn't know how to respond to this situation.

Inwardly, Emma did not want to be indebted to Therius. If the prince lost the throne because of her.. Emma couldn't imagine how she would feel.

"What are you doing? Are you crazy?" Emma muttered under her breath as she glanced at Therius. The man did not turn to her at all. He focused his gaze on King Cassius.

"Emma and I have told you that we like each other and maybe in the future, we will be able to love each other. We both also know that getting married will be the best solution for Akkadia and Thaesi. I trust my future wife so I am willing to guarantee her with my life. Emma really needs to see her mother. I will take Emma to Thaesi and bring her back here. If I failed to do so, then as promised, grandfather may revoke my position as the crown prince."

"Prince Licht .. what did you say?" asked Queen Ygrit irritably. She turned to her husband, her right hand pressed against her chest as if trying to hold back her anger so as not to explode. "Cassius, your grandson has been charmed by Arreya's daughter that he can no longer think straight. I really see that vile woman in her daughter. Just as she has tricked and played with our son Darius' heart, Emma has also tricked and played with Prince Licht."

Therius stared at his grandmother with a frozen face. "Grandmother, please don't insult me. Do you think I'm so naive and stupid that I can be deceived by a woman?"

Queen Ygrit fell silent. Therius rarely got angry and his attitude this time seemed different than usual. The young man looked annoyed. Hence the queen said nothing more.

Emma was still in shock because Therius did something that she thought was stupid. Emma had no intention of fulfilling her promise to return to Akkadia after she left the kingdom. She would either stay in Thaesi or flee to another place that no one can find her.

She was sick of being held as hostage by anyone. If Therius promised that he would hand over his position as the future king to Yared if he failed in bringing Emma back to Akkadia, wouldn't that mean Therius wouldn't be able to ascend the throne and it would be Emma's fault?

Emma didn't want to be burdened with such a big responsibility at all!

King Cassius stared at Therius and Emma alternately. His feelings were hard to guess. For a moment, Emma held her breath. She wished she could use telemancy in the palace so that she can read the king's mind. The wait was nervewracking.

"I have heard everything you all have to say," said King Cassius at last. "I guess I have to trust Licht on this."

Emma breathed a sigh of relief. Queen Ygrit glared angrily, but she said nothing. Yldwyn lowered her head, trying to hide her disappointment. Meanwhile, Yared smiled mysteriously.

Perhaps, in his heart, he suddenly felt he had a chance to make Therius lose the throne. If Therius failed in bringing Emma back to Akkadia, then Yared would be king.

This was truly a very valuable opportunity.

Emma turned to Therius and threw him a grateful look.

"Aren't you going to say anything?" Therius asked after they got off the pegasus carriage, which was taking them back to the crown prince's palace. Emma knew Therius was referring to his help during dinner with the king earlier.

If Therius didn't try hard to convince his grandfather to let Emma go to Thaesi, then Emma's efforts would be in vain. The girl nodded softly and said. "Thank you."

"I trust you," said Therius.

"Hmm .." Emma did not want to respond further because she was afraid Therius would actually suspect that Emma had no intention of keeping her promise. The girl frowned and touched Therius' shoulder. She wanted to ask why Queen Ygrit seemed so eager to match the man with Princess Yldwyn. "Therius, why does your grandmother seem so eager for you to marry that blue-haired girl?"

"Yldwyn, you mean?" asked Therius.

"Yes, that. I don't care what her name is," Emma replied curtly.

"Yldwyn and my grandmother are both from Terren. You could say, Yldwyn's grandmother and my grandmother are still related by blood, and they are very close," Therius explained. "Ydlwyn and my grandmother's closeness now is quite similar to the closeness between your mother and my grandfather in the past."

"Oh ..." Emma finally understood what happened. Instantly, her steps halted.

"What are you thinking?" asked Therius attentively.

"I think I know who betrayed you and became the mastermind of my father's execution ..." Emma said bitterly. She no longer hid the hatred that filled her chest when she remembered Queen Ygrit's wicked face.

Therius took a deep breath. He didn't look surprised at Emma's words. In fact, when his grandmother repeatedly mentioned Kaoshin's execution and provoked Emma's anger, he had the same suspicion.

"Do you mean .. my grandmother?" asked the man in a tired voice. "I was thinking the same."
