255 The Birthday Party
The birthday party held to celebrate the king's birthday was very lively. Emma was impressed when the evening of the celebration arrived. The guests invited were the aristocrats who were Therius supporters and also many government high officials.
The main hall of the old royal palace was used as the venue for the party. When Emma and Therius arrived, they were both impressed by the decorations. Everything was planned so well, they were attractive and majestic, truly befitting of a king.
"Good evening, Your Majesty," several nobles immediately greeted their presence with respect.
Emma didn't know most of the people who come because she was new to Akkadia, but luckily she was a telemancer, so it was very easy for her to read their minds and find out who they were.
She could kindly greet them by name and ask questions about their family members or their children.
"Good evening, Lady Sundry. How's your daughter? I heard she just graduated from school with honors? You must be so proud of her," Emma said to a noblewoman dressed in a glamorous outfit.
Lady Sundry seemed very pleased to hear that the young queen knew her family so well. She smiled broadly and told Emma about her daughter with great pride. Therius had to control her mind so that she would stop her babbling and let Emma go so the queen could meet the other guests.
"I'm glad you remove the anti-magic shield in the royal palace," said Emma to Therius. "I can use telemancy to read the minds of these guests and find things to talk about. Otherwise, I would look awkward."
"You won't look awkward," said Therius with a smile. "But I agree with you. I know how bad it is to be limited by that shield. We can better protect ourselves if we could use our powers."
The previous king was a weak human, so he wouldn't feel the difference if the shield was up or not. However, Therius was a very powerful mage. It would be beneficial for him if he could use all his powers to protect himself and Emma.
He glanced at the king's bodyguards, who also looked more relaxed because they could do everything they could to protect the Licht King and his queen if anything happened. The shield was more like a nuisance to them too.
"Do?you like the party?" Therius asked after they had finished their pleasantries with the many guests and then rested at their table enjoying a drink.
Emma was not a crowd-pleaser, but she was open to having festivities from time to time. She understood that Therius' purpose for having the party was to entertain her so she wouldn't get bored in the palace. Therefore, she nodded with an expression of gratitude.
"I like it. Having a party every few months would be good to make the atmosphere in the palace more pleasant," she said. Emma touched Therius' cheek and smiled. "Happy Birthday, Therius."
Therius closed his eyes, enjoying the touch of Emma's hand on his cheek. He then touched the hand and held it in his hands. "Thank you."
This morning after they woke up, Emma had wished him a happy birthday too, but he loved hearing it from her again. Therius never felt happy when he became one year older like today. It almost felt like his life finally became interesting and fun after he got married.
Ahh .. slowly, the image of his parents' warmth and intimacy returned to his memory. He remembered how small celebrations were always in their home when his parents were still alive.
When his father returned from duty, his mother would throw a small party. She would find excuses to celebrate every little precious moment. Their wedding anniversary, everyone's birthday, every time they got an achievement, even the start of the new season, would be celebrated. Those really help made the atmosphere in their home warm and happy.
Only now could Therius appreciate it all. In his heart, he now understood how much love his parents had for each other. His mother and father had been friends since they were little before they got married, and they are each other's first loves.
If General Licht Wolfland did not die young, maybe until now they would still live happily and in love with each other as passionately as they were before.
Ahh ... Therius remembered how he blamed his mother for years for not being able to bear the pain of his father's death, and finally chose to commit suicide. Therius felt hurt because he thought his mother was selfish and did not think about him when he was a child.
But now, he could understand that his mother's grief was too deep and resulted in depression. It was untreated properly, and she finally took her own life. Now, Therius could understand and forgive his mother.
However, he remained determined not to let the same thing happen to him. If he and Emma had children, no matter what, he would not leave them. He would do his best to raise them and make them happy.
Inwardly, he also hoped that Emma would do the same.
"What are you thinking?" asked Emma when she saw Therius' gaze that looked distant. The king was moved from his reverie and immediately shook his head.
"It's nothing important," he said.
Yes, he was thinking about the future with Emma again. Maybe five years from now will be a good time to have children. Until then, he must be patient.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen! Thank you for coming to the palace tonight to celebrate our king's 29th birthday. He recently ascended the throne and got married, and is now celebrating his birthday with all of us and his beloved wife," A man with an attractive appearance immediately went up on the small stage and greeted the guests. He was the MC. He raised his hand and pointed at Therius and Emma with a big smile. "Let's give a big round of applause to King Licht Wolfland and Queen Emma Stardust!"
The crowd immediately rose to their feet and faced Emma and Therius and clapped their hands wildly. Therius nodded at all of them and nodded.
"Thank you," he said simply.
"Your Majesty, we pray that the seven gods will always bestow health and strength for you so that you can continue to lead Akkadia wisely," said the MC earnestly. "Well.. tonight, we have a special performance from the number one singer in Akkadia. He will sing three songs for our king and queen ... Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome ... AERON!!!"
