49 Darkness approaches
It wasn't about what Koos and his men expected to find when they flew over the city, it was in fact about what they didn't see that disturbed them the most, vacant, all vacant. Here and there they could see dead bodies among what seemed like an utter nightmare of a traffic jam, but other than that, there were no movement accept for stray animals.
"What de fok happened down there?" Piet asked with his face flat against a window.
"Chaos, thats what happened" Koos replied.
"A whole city? What could have caused it?" Frits asked, his eyes out the opposite window.
"Dunno, lets fly over the military and naval bases, see whats going on there" Koos replied taking out his sattelite phone, but cursed when it didn't want to ring up Ezbar.
"What?" Frits asked.
"No satellite reception, which means who ever did this was not only a bloodthirsty bliksem, but a smart one too"
A cold sweat hit them when they saw the naval port, it too was empty.
"F... fok, America has one of the largest military fleets in the world, you want to tell me this new enemy fokkin sank all of them!?" Frits yelled.
"That, or, the enemy is now using them, Frits check the wide spread radar, see if you can spot a large amount of ships somewhere" Koos asked and sat down in the co-pilot seat.
"There, its a bussy bit heading south east" Frits pointed at the radar screen.
"Increase elevation, those are some of the most advance destroyers in the world, if we want to sneak a peek, we need to be too high for the radar to pick us up" Koos said and Frits increased the thrust drawing back on the steer. Flying as high as the learjet allowed them, the huge gap between them and the earth just made it that much easier to see, the huge amount of trouble that was heading towards the continent of Africa.
*Derrick*
Derrick didn't care about much more than what was going on on his farm, for five years no trouble found him, no Seth, no Maxwell, and sadly to say, no Kara, as much as he missed her, somehow trouble just always seem to find her.
As for the precautions Derrick took in order to ready himself should Seth show his mug, he never felt more confident in himself, dropping the nose of his grandfather's tractor he was sure after the complete weight of a tractor was becoming too little of a task to pick up, he would give Seth one hell of a run for his money. Built like a tank, and ripped beyond the liking of any woman, he was weight training this whole time, and the thought of killing Seth was all that mattered to him.
"Wow" a woman's voice made him swing around.
"Who are you!?" He yelled surprised "And how did you get here!?" He finished, the barn had wooden floors, he was baffled that he didn't hear her.
"You can lower your fists, im not here to hurt you" She said sitting down on a bale of hay.
"What makes you think i think you can hurt me?" He said with his new found confidence, nothing scares him anymore, if he could kill a werewolf five years ago, what could he do now?
But she responded with a smile, equally blooming in confidence.
"Imagine how much more hou could be now, if you yourself awakened?"
A shrill hit him, that type of talk that could only mean one thing, he kept himself stupid.
"What do you mean, awaken?"
"Didn't it make sence to you that since your brother is a werewolf, you would be one too?"
"Don't utter shit! I can look at a full moon no problem"
"Yes, you're not awakened yet, thats why"
"Well, im not intrested in becoming a monster, i can kill one as i am now"
She shrugged and stood up "There are some monsters out there, beyond your reach, and Seth is such a beast"
"Im not afraid of him"
"And you shouldn't be, it would just be wise to take care around him, you see, he wants you to awaken so you can join his..." she twitched her fingers "Pack"
"That's bullshit, he did nothing but try and kill me all my life"
"Thats because of your stubbornness, there's more than one way to awaken into a werewolf you know"
"What do you mean!?"
"You think he's trying to kill you because he hates you? Well you're wrong" she smiled and slowly backed away into the darkness of the shed.
"Youre not making any sense!"
"Tic toc Derrick, he's closing in, i can help you, but you must become part of my pack in return"
"Like fuck i will!"
She disappeared into the dark, Derrick was confused to where she went, theres no door back there, he slowly approached that area, and sure enough, he found she was in fact gone.
"Where are you hiding!?" He yelled peeling away tha hay stacks, but there was no woman, and no answer. Light from outside the barn drew his attention, he walked out and saw a car standing with its headlights shining up the driveway towards him. Checking for a full moon he headed towards it when he was sure there wasnt one.
"Who's there!?" He called blocking the light with his hand, the lights dimmed and someone climbed out, the slender figure and witty tone in his voice was like dug up graves in Derricks mind.
"So the boy became a man"
"Maxwell?"
"Indeed, its been a while, i see its going well"
"It was, what do you want?"
"You know our companies are still in partnership, i came to look for you, its been five years already"
A sense of calm came over Derrick, but only slightly.
"I thought naturally Elsje would have taken charge of my parents company, she had things under control all the time, so she really didn't need me"
"Truth be told that was the case boy, you not interested in taking over?"
"Not really"
"Well then thats settled, one last thing then"
"Yes?"
"I was looking for Luna and her daughter, you might not know where they are?"
"Why?" Derrick asked comming closer.
"She owes me"
The way Maxwell said it didn't convince him, something told Derrick since Elsje was on good terms with both Maxwell and Seth, somewhere somehow this is related to Seth still looking for Kara and her mother.
Derrick decided to dig alittle.
"I might know where they are, but Maxwell, i have no intention of telling you. I cut all my ties with everyone, The company belongs to Elsje, and shes on good grounds with you, if it was my company id get rid of the partnership with yours"
A hint of uneasiness came on Maxwell's face.
"Thats what i expected boy, you always had your father's look on your face, guess its good Elsje is still in charge"
Derrick smiled "Guess so"
"But i employ you to reconsider answering me truthfully, where is Luna?"
Derrick shrugged keeping his smile on.
"You know, Browning industries and Black alpha oils are making a killing by now right? You're rolling in cash, why stumble over a small thing like Luna's dept?"
Maxwell got impatient.
"Thats none of your bussiness boy! Just tell me!"
"No" Derrick turned around and walked away.
"Boy! It would be wise to answer me!"
"Or what!?" Derrick yelled turning back to him.
Maxwell waved his hands "Get him"
Two men climbed out of the car and came in through the unlocked gates, Derrick balled up his fists, the moment to test his strength against another person arrived.
The first one had a riot baton, he swung at Derrick but missed as Derrick jumped back then came in with a punch quickly before the man could bring the baton high again. Derrick's fist struck the man with speed, he felt the scull crack under the blow, and with a grunt the man went down. Derrick was so surprised at his own strength he forgot about the second man, who succeeded in stabbing him in his side with a knife, Derrick roared of pain but anger took him, making him subconsciously grab the man's head and twisting it, breaking his neck.
"Bloody hell!" Maxwell yelled backing up.
"Come on Maxie! Arent you the leader! Arent you the Alpha!? Your turn! Come at me!" Derrick bellowed but a blow with a steel pipe from behind knocked him out, making Maxwell sigh relieved.
"Whats wrong?" Seth asked standing over Derrick "He scare you Browning?"
"Hes a beast, just like his father"
"He sure has buffed himself up alot, but i asure you, hes still just human" Seth said and started dragging Derrick by his foot.
"What do you plan to do with him?" Maxwell asked following him.
"Ill get one of two things out of him, Luna's location, or ill force him to awaken"
"How will you accomplish that?" Maxwell asked looking at the three sisters who came out of the dark to join them, eery smiles on their faces.
"I want the first crack at him" Shiva said kicking at Derricks head.
"No" Elsje pushed her away
"Ive been waiting for a while to sink my claws into him, i go first" She said but Silvia split them apart.
"Sorry, i want to try an interrogation approach first before you two bitches accidentally kill him"
"Listen to you! you're not a cop anymore Silvia, we beat the answers out of him, thats how we work" Shiva yelled making Seth laugh loudly.
"Whats so fucking funny!?" Shiva yelled at him.
"Im going with Silvia on this one, i want him alive as long as possible, and you two might not have enough restraint to keep him alive for long"
Shiva looked angrily at Silvia, who stuck her tounge out back at her.
"Skank" Shiva hissed.
In a cinder block building behind the shed Seth opened a door, this was the dry storage room of the farm, but just before you go in there is a steel trap door leading to an underground cellar. Back in the day the three rooms down there had separate purposes, one was a wine cellar, one a cold meat storage, the last the butchery. In the cold storage Seth strung Derrick up by his wrists using chains, his feet now just touching the floor.
"He'll break those chains easily ya know" Elsje said.
"I know, i came prepared for that" Seth said and drew a knife.
*Kara and Luna*
The soft drizzle of the late evening rain pitter pattered on Luna's face, she held her nose to the sky, eyes closed.
It was peaceful here, she knew comming to Angola was the best possible decision, and better yet, the Nyati clan agreed to offer them sanctuary, and not only that, training for Kara.
Luna looked down at the open field infront of her, the sunset making Kara and her opponent Ruth look like that of a film, two warriors standing to face eachother in a dramatic scene.
Since the disappearance of the Nina, her daughter Ruth took over, and Naledi of the Diphiri clan was there to help her with the ins and outs of being a pack leader.
"I think you know all i have to teach" Ruth said lowering her fighting stance, Kara, now a fully grown woman was probably the tallest there, Valkarie's genes shone through clearly, her length, her slightly larger than avarage build, even that viking muscular structure was clear, Luna smiled inwardly, what would Derrick think of her now? Kara sighed and turned to Luna.
"I guess this is it then?" She said comming over.
"Are you sure you want to go back?" Luna asked.
"Yes, i owe Derrick that much, and if Seth is still alive, i want to help Guinevere kill him"
Luna felt a knot in her gut, alot has changed for Kara in five years, but who's to say Seth hasnt gotten stronger aswell?
Then there remains the question of who's venom awakened Kara? It was a slow process yes, but after two years Kara has fully become a wolf. The only person who could have accurately pointed out who did it was Alice, Luna's mother... but there's a wretched pirate who is better off missing.
"Its peaceful here Kara, why not stay? There's no danger here"
"Im not afraid anymore mother, i can handle myself"
Luna sighed but nodded, afer half an hour of packing supplies, both Luna and Kara started driving back to South-Africa.
*Sabers*
"Shit...! Shit! Shit! Shit!" Quintin yelled slamming the table. Ezbar only rubbed his brow in frustration.
"Whats going on!?" Katja asked comming into the room.
"Luna and Kara are heading south"
"That doesn't mean they're going back to Pretoria" Katja said.
"Its the only reason they would go, Luna would probably have voted against it, but Kara is the one who would want to go back" Quintin said looking at the computer monitor.
"Then... we leave them be? Right?" Katja frowned.

"No, we have to put some insurance in, just to keep Seth's fangs from her"
"Then who will go? Were not sure what the American fleet is doing heading here, so we need our strongest to be ready, and thats you two and Cate" Ezbar said.
Quintin dug in his head for answers "What about DPK?"
"They themselves can pack a heavy punch, id rather suggest you send them to the fleet, that is, if we can find them. Koos hasnt been answering my calls lately" Ezbar replied.
"Then me and Guinevere can go" Chane said listening to them from the door.
"Guinevere?" Quintins heart cramped. Since her outburst back at Maxwells mansion, they had her under lock and keep. She was classified a failed experiment, so it was either kill her, or lock her away untill furhter notice. It was painful for Quintin to do it, but he couldn't kill her, he still loved her dearly.
"She"s... she's too much of a risk" Quintin said with a heavy heart.
"Not anymore" Chane said approaching "She's in control of herself now"
"We cant say that forsure, unless we fix that chip in her head"
"That chip has been removed by Koos a long time ago" Chaine snickered.
"What? How? And why?" Ezbar asked standing up.
"Beats me, they had to knock her out to get it, but, they succeeded, just cut it out straight forward, i mean, Guinevere can heal right"
"But why!?"
"I have no idea, if you meet them you can ask them yourself, for now come with me, i want to show you something" Chane lead them down deeper into the underground bunker to where Guinevere was being held.
"Observe" Chane somehow found the key to the large steel door of her cell.
"Chane, don't be hasty now" Ezbar said.
"Relax" he said and twisted the key.
Both Quintin and Katja felt their hearts racing, they haven't seen Guinevere in years, Ezbar expected her to fly out and tare at them, but she calmly came into view, her hair hanging just above her knees, the shackles she was in was red of blood, she probably tried to break them in the early stages of her imprisonment.
"G... Guinie?" Katja murmered.
"Mom?"
Katja leaped onto her daughter and held her tightly, crying uncontrollably.
"Im so sorry Guinevere, please forgive me"
"Its ok mom, i'd lock myself up after what happened, but now..." She looked at Quinin "I want to set right my wrongs, let me have at Seth, im aching to get another..." she was abruptly interrupted by Quintin drawing her in and holding her tightly.
"Come on dad, i had a whole speech prepared"
"There's no need, please just promise ne you'll be safe"
"Don't worry, Seth should be the one to tred lightly" Gunevere held the shackles up and sprang her claws. Cautiously Ezbar unlocked the shackles on her wrists, Guinevere smiled and tossedthe shackles back into the cell.
"Im going to go clean up" She left leaving everyone silent.
Quintin looked at Chane.
"How did you know she calmed down this much?"
"Well, it wasn't easy, to tell you the truth it took me almost five years to make it work"
"And wat did you do?" Ezbar asked.
"You know how she can see the aura around a person? It usually helps her judge if the person is afraid of her or not? Well she kept saying she saw this 'Blue of fear' in my aura, but to tell you the truth, i wasn't afraid of her"
Quintin frowned "Ok? So what does that mean? If youre not afraid of her, then what does the blue in your aura mean?"
Chaine shrugged "I love her, always have, so i reckoned if i stay with her for as long as possable, she'll get used to wanting to attack something that fears her, get over that urge"
"And she didn't attack you?" Ezbar asked.
"Yes she did, numerous times, but remember doc, im a werecheetah, theres no way she could catch me"
Ezbar chuckled but Quintin slapped his sboulder "Come! We must put things into motion, otherwise if that fleet is on its way to SA, who knows what the future holds"
