Dominating Evolution of the Cosmos

115 Stalling for Time

Collic knew that human beings were crafty. However, Collic also knew that demons, like itself, were more cunning than human beings.

As the two of them were waiting quietly for the time to pass, they both were sizing each other up. Steve took advantage of this opportunity, asking tentatively, "Since I seem unable to escape your Excellency, could you tell me the origin of the treasure? What is its real purpose?"

Collic frowned, as the demon did not wish to answer Steve's question.

"I often hear of your prestige in the human camp. I heard that you once killed a team of 100 original beings single-handedly. Even in the human camp, many people worship your Excellency..." Steve continued to flatter Collic. "Even I admire you."

Since demons possess the same tendency towards arrogance that human beings have, the creatures love being flattered and worshipped. Collic had originally intended to ignore Steve, but upon hearing Steve's words, a smile crept onto Collic's face.

"You know quite a lot, human." Collic laughed with pride.

"Who doesn't know of your prestige?" Steve saw that his flattery was effective, so he continued. "I've heard that you broke through the level-one evolution with a basic cell value of 600 points, and also that you're the most dazzling genius in the entire demon camp."

"You're wrong. It was 650 basic cell value!" Collic looked proud. "I've been deemed as the most likely to become a demon god in the demon camp!"

Collic's basic cell value in breaking through the level-one evolution was too shocking! In fact, it was for this very reason that the human camp was trying to kill this genius!

This was actually a very common situation. If the demons knew that a strong genius had been born in the human camp, they'd find ways to kill that genius before he had a chance to develop, so as to avoid a greater disaster or conflict in the future.

When Steve saw the demon Collic's triumphant look, he immediately understood that Collic's basic cell value of 650 was made possible by the magical effects of the seven-colored egg!

"To think that the treasure had such a miraculous effect." Steve sighed. "I haven't found any of such effects since I got it. Otherwise, I would be at a much higher level, not where I am currently, not even reaching the standards of original beings."

Steve continued, feeling sorry for himself. "Sure enough, a useless thing like me could never be compared to Lord Collic. Such a treasure would have to fall into your hands for it to be worth anything, apparently."

Collic was so satisfied with this remark, that even its tail began to swing around behind it, as if the demon was encouraging Steve to say even more.

"Haha, you're so idiotic! Even after you have had it for so long, you still don't know its usefulness!" Collic said proudly. "Every day, this treasure produces magical liquids, and if you drink it, you'll be able to accelerate your rate of cell evolution."

"Stupid method!" the Heart of the Universe suddenly said disdainfully. "If you take the seven-colored liquid directly, you can only exert 1% of its effects. Only when you mix it with the serums, will you then be able to exert its strongest effect."

The Heart of the Universe continued, declaring huffily, "Moreover, the direct usage of liquid is too strong, as the body would not be able to absorb it. Also, the more it accumulates, the more adverse effects it'll have on the body. Only if the body is first made strong enough, could the direct usage of the liquid have a more powerful effect."

The Heart of the Universe continued sharing disdain for Collic's method. "Master, its powers are not as infinite as they look now. In fact, the energy in its body is as bloated as a fat man, and the actual amount of energy it could use is miniscule, which will certainly cause some issues for future evolution."

In other words, Collic's body was fit and strong only on the surface. However, the actual energy in his body was just like a fat man that had eaten too much. As such, the body was indeed full of calories, but these calories would never be converted to energy.

Collic was in this state now, but was unaware of it and merely thought that it was powerful, so the demon felt good about itself. Steve did not intend to tell Collic that Collic did not possess the Heart of the Universe and was unable to attain a perfect evolutionary plan like Steve's. After all, Steve was not about to let the demon know that Steve's growth potential was destined to surpass the demon's!

"So that's how the liquid should be used! I was afraid it was poisonous, so I kept the liquid and didn't dare drink it. What a pity!" Steve said, as he took out a can of the seven-colored energy serum.

After getting ahold of the seven-colored egg, the Heart of the Universe was unable to analyze its real effects. However, the Heart of the Universe had a way to encourage the growth of the seven-colored egg, allowing it to produce even more magical liquid. Therefore, their output of the seven-colored liquid was much larger than Collic's.

"You've saved up so much of it!" Collic exclaimed, while looking at the seven-colored energy serum, saliva flowing immediately in its mouth. In fact, the demon felt the urge to snatch it away!

"Now, I am very curious as to how you, Lord Collic, managed to obtain such a precious treasure..." Steve said. "As long as you tell me, I'll give the seven-colored liquid to you."

Collic hesitated for a moment, then finally, as it was tempted by the seven-colored energy serum, said, "Actually, I was just a common demon, living in the eastern part of the Magical Beast Mountains. There was an ancient monument in the eastern mountain range, which had attracted a large number of strong beings. I remember that two men, both of Ares level, were fighting over some treasure. While everyone was distracted by the extraordinary battle, I snuck into the ruins and quickly stole the treasure away..." Collic spoke with cunning eyes.

Steve listened carefully, but did not believe all of the demon's words.

This was because most demons could not be believed. In fact, those who had trusted the words of the demons in the past were now all buried in the graveyard! Though the entirety of Collic's testimony surely could not be believed, some of the information was at least worth exploring.

"Even if you knew this information, it would be of no use to you, as you will not leave this place alive today!" Collic sneered.

Steve sighed. "Since I'm doomed anyways, it's better to be an informed ghost than to become a confused ghost. At least I'd know how I'm to die."

"Hahaha, an informed ghost!" Collic repeated the words with a complacent smile. "Twenty minutes have passed, so you should return the treasure to me now."

Steve looked at the time, seeing that 20 minutes had indeed passed while they were having their conversation. His heart sank.

It has already been so long! Why are the rescue forces not here yet?

"Oh, you can't expect the others to help you," Collic said with a cold smile. "Did you think I wouldn't be able to see past your little tricks?"
