198 Commercial Scam

Jim raised his brows and said proudly, "Young man, choose your words carefully! What evidence do you have to prove that we sell fake goods?"

"Steve, I made a mistake. Let me go," Vivien lowered her head and struggled to break free from Steve's grip. Unfortunately, Steve was stronger than her.

"Did you hear that? Even she admitted that we didn't sell fake serums. If you continue to make trouble, I will ask the security guards to take you out," Jim spoke coldly.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here," Steve held Vivien's hand tightly and looked into her eyes. However, as Vivien's hair was blocking her eyes, Steve was unsure if she was able to see him clearly.

With Steve's assurances, Vivien finally calmed down. However, she was still shaking from fear.

Steve sighed in his heart, as he was sad that Vivien was so cowardly. This made her an easy target for bullying! Yet Steve knew that Vivien was a kind-hearted and hardworking girl, so he had a soft-spot for her.

He would often see small animals approaching Vivien. Moreover, she was hardworking, as she often started training even before dawn!

"Tell me what happened," Steve urged her.

Vivien finally mustered up the courage to tell Steve her story. As it turns out, she heard that the Black Tiger Store was having a 20% discount on Subatomic Serum. For Vivien, who lives in poverty, a 20% discount was a very attractive offer.

So, she made a trip to the store to purchase the Subatomic Serum. However, after trying it out, she found that the serum's effectiveness only lasted half the time that they had promised on the label!

The effect was indeed 50% higher than that of an ordinary Subatomic Serum, but the time was shortened by half, which meant that the effect was also shortened by half! Vivien knew she had been cheated, so she brought along the remaining serum in the bottle to confront the owner. However, she did not expect that the Black Tiger Store would not admit their scam!

"Miss, what we sold you is really the perfect grade Subatomic Serum. You have already tasted its effects. Our store did not deceive you," Jim insisted.

"But, the serum only lasted half the promised time... You're cheating your customers!" Vivien was about to cry, but she still was determined to get justice.

Steve could not help but look at Vivien with a bit of pity and respect. It was a strange mixture of emotions.

He knew Vivien better than anyone else, and although she was often ignored and bullied, she never gave up. In fact, she was like a weed, not always very strong, but doing its best to grow.

Most people who encountered Vivien's current situation would have chosen to give up. But she chose to be strong and continued to work hard to seek justice! Hence, Steve could not simply stand by and watch such a determined girl be bullied!

"The pharmaceuticals you provide here are not as effective as you claim them to be. As consumers, we naturally have the right to hold you accountable for misleading us!" Steve looked at Jim and spoke coldly.

"Hold us accountable?" Jim behaved as if he had heard something funny, a big smirk filling his face. "If you want to report us to the Consumer Association, feel free to do so."

Jim had a fearless look and he spoke. He looked Steve in the eyes and dared him to make a move. This was because he was used to this scam of his.

Every year, he would meet many recruits and go through the exact same scenario. The result was always that the recruit had to swallow the insult and humiliation silently, while this guy got away with selling subpar goods!

Steve smiled coldly, then immediately went online and reported the Black Tiger Store to the Consumer Association at the military base camp. Shortly afterwards, the manager of the Consumer Association came to investigate, bringing two members of the security team from the Original Tower Square along with him.

"I'm Ron, the manager of the Consumer Association," Ron said as he took out his pass.

The other two men also took out their passes. As Steve looked at their passes, he read that the guy with a paler skin tone was named Belak, while the other guy with a darker skin tone was named George.

"We're going to sue them for selling subpar serums." Steve took out the serums and placed them on the table, then said, "Here's the evidence."

Ron glanced at Steve and Vivien, then smiled at them. He had experienced the same situation many times before.

"Jim, are you cheating the recruits again?" Ron looked at Jim and asked.

"I didn't deceive them!" Jim said with an exaggerated expression. "Every bottle of serum that we sell here is certified by the professionals at the Pharmacists Guild, each bottle being labeled as such."

"So what if you have the accreditation from the Pharmacists Guild? Your Subatomic Serum is only half as effective as you claim it to be!" Steve accused him coldly.

"No, no, no! Sometimes the efficacy of a serum varies from one person to another. Perhaps this lady has antibodies that affected this serum. That has nothing to do with us!" Jim smiled sly.

"My body is fine! I possess no antibodies that would hinder this serum..." Vivien's voice was soft, but firm.

"How would you know if you had any? You need a professional physician to certify that!" Jim was a pro scammer, so he had all the right words. "You insisted that the Subatomic Serum lasted only half the time as was expected. Have you already brought the serum and had it tested to verify your suspicions? Do you have the report?"

"I tried it myself... It really lasted only half the time as expected..." Vivien was so angry, she was about to cry.

"The law is all about evidence!" Jim laughed and said. "If you wish to sue us, show me your proof! However, before you try, I must tell you, to get the professionals from the Pharmacists Guild to verify the serum and produce their professional analysis reports, the fees are very high! Moreover, even if you have the money to pay them, they might not want to help you!"

As the Pharmacists Guild was not a government run organization, whether or not they chose to produce an analysis report was completely at their discretion. This was not great news for Vivien and Steve...
