39 Chapter 37 - Uncles Secre
-Edward's POV-
After the failure of resurrecting our mother, I lost two limbs and Alphonse lost his entire body. Luckily, the Rockbells saved me from bleeding to death. I was passed out from blood loss, and spent my days on a bed recovering. After seeing the horror I made and affixing Al's soul into armor, I never thought of Alchemy again, spending my days depressed.
"Urusai Den! To customers, you have too-" Pinako opened the door and a soldier barged in.
"Hey! What business does a soldier have here?" yelled Pinako. The soldier was looking around and saw me in a wheelchair with Al.
He picked me up and said, "I just came from your house! What in the world is all that? What did you make?!"
Al grabbed his clothes, "Sorry... please forgive us. We're sorry. We're terribly sorry."
*****
"I was shocked. I heard there was a talented alchemist, so I came here. To think a child would performed human transmutation, though it was incomplete, and even manage to affix a soul..." he said and looked back at me.
"He has more than enough to be a state alchemist. If he became a state alchemist, he'd have to fight as a soldier during times of emergencies. At the same time, the position comes with many privileges, and they'd be allowed to perform research of the highest level." stated Colonel Mustang.
"They may be able to discover a way to recover their bodies..." he said.
Pinako, of course, disagreed, not wanting the brothers to experience hell over again.
"Are you sure? We have the best resources for you guys to recover back your bodies. We've been testing out medicine more over these years." asked the Colonel.
'Recover... no matter what they do...they wouldn't ever be close to what uncle did...' thought Ed.
"Before you leave us... Could you tell us where our uncle is?" Al asked.
"Uncle? You guys had an uncle? I didn't hear anything from your neighbors." said Mustang.
"He left after we went to train under our master. He's the most talented alchemist we've ever seen." said Al.
"That geezer... He might have the key to recovering our body..." said Edward.
"You spoke!" said Mustang surprised.
"Our uncle... he once recovered an organ from our master... do you know him? He is an Ishvalan alchemist and a very strong fighter." asked Edward.
"Ishvalan? We must see our records. There has been many Ishvalan terrorists in a revenge rampage around Central City." said Mustang.
"He's very powerful! He showed us his powers once and he could make light!" spoke Al.
After saying light, Colonel Mustang froze.
"Did you say light!?" he shouted.
"What's wrong? Is there someone you remember?" Pinako uttered.
"There's only one man who fits your description. Apparently, he's gone missing after some encounters, but our entire forces couldn't defeat him. He did this to me." Pulling his sleeve, there was a long scar that covered most of his hand.
"Our uncle!? No way! He's the kindest person we ever met!" voiced Al.
"Your uncle is crazy. Riza! Come over here for a second." yelled Mustang.
Rize came over and Mustang asked her if she hand the report of their uncles. She said yes and got the documents out of her brief case. In it, was a photo, exactly like their uncle's.
[Gone Missing}
[Blinding Alchemist - Kyofu (Very Dangerous)]
[Light and Wind Based Alchemy]
[Ishvalan Martial Artist]
[Dead or Alive]
[Reward: 20 million Cenz]
[Status: Last seen was two years ago during Autumn, where he clashed against many State Alchemist, coming out alive. It is theorized that he passed away or retired fighting against the state.]
"No... but that's impossible... why would he go fight?" said Al trembling.
"That's him. Face it Al, our uncle was always crazy to keep his notes in secret," responded Ed to Al.
"Notes? Where does he keep it?" questioned the colonel.
"In our house, in his room at the attic," replied the brothers.
Bringing the brothers to their home, they went to check the room. Mustang grabbed the door handle, only for it not to open. P
"Why isn't this opening?" muttered Mustang, pulling as hard as he could with both of his hands.
"You should give it up Mr. Soldier. We tried everything in the past by making fake keys or using alchemy to break down the door. We even tried breaking it down with force, but it never budged open." spoke Edward.
"There has to be a key somewhere... Where can we get it..." said Mustang.
"If you want a key, I have the materials for it..." came Pinako with a weird metal.
"Old hag, where did you get that!" said Edward.
"DON'T CALL ME A HAG! I got this from your uncle before he went away... I'm just giving this back to the rightful owner," and Pinako handed the metal to Alphonse.
"That's great and all, but how do we make they key?" said Mustang concerned.\
"With this," brought Edward with a metal mold inside a book.
"I found this when we were researching human transmutation through the book our father left behind," revealed Ed.
"Just so you know Ed, this metal can't be melted at all nor can anything be written on," said Pinako.
"Don't worry guys, I got this!" Clasping his hands together, Edward put the stone on the mold and a key started forming shape.
'Transmuting without a circle!? This kid is incredible!' thought Mustang.
Finishing the key, Edward without hesitation inserted the key in the key hole. Turning it, a soft click sound was heard.
"Let's enter..." said Edward. Pushing the door, all that was inside was a ton of books on a shelf and a table with a letter, camera, and a lamp.
"Let's look around brother," said Alphonse.
Edward went straight for the letter and opened it up.
[Dear Elric brothers.
It's me! Your uncle Kyofu. If you're reading this, that means you must have committed human transmutation. If you're trying to recover your bodies back, then you must go find clues regarding philosopher stones. At the very end, I'll be there waiting for you with your father.
Beware of the Amestris government. You can't trust the Fuhrer at all. I'll also be giving away my legacy to you guys. Just find whatever you want on those books, I made sure to put a ton of information.
I'll see you one day, :P
Sincerely, your uncle]
Reading this out loud, the brothers were in shock. How did their uncle know everything, and where was he? How was their father related to this and why couldn't they trust the government?
"This is weird... really weird... Is the Fuhrer untrustworthy?" muttered Colonel Mustang.
"So... Everything in this room is ours to learn?" Al asked.
"I guess so..." With burning passion in his eyes, Edward was motivated again to recover their bodies. Clenching his hands, he promised to find his uncle.
"We'll see you soon too uncle." said Edward and Alphonse.
After the incident, Edward asked Pinako to quickly do automail surgery on him. During the entire procedure, Alphonse and Edward were reading books, while Mustang borrowed some books now and then regarding fire.
"What the hell... this stuff is completely new..." said Edward, sighing at the fact that his uncle was completely in another level.
"Brother... Can you help me with this? I'm still not completely understanding this part about waves," asked Alphonse.
"What's going on here! How can something like fire be so basic here!" roared Mustang in anger.
The three alchemists were studying the research notes left by the brother's uncle. Edward was also getting surgery and adapting to his automail everyday, and Alphonse and Mustang were learning some martial arts as well.
"Why do I need to learn this? My alchemy is powerful enough to not require this!" yelled Mustang in anger.
"Calm down colonel! We have to learn according to the rules set by our uncle!" panicked Alphonse.
Collecting his cool, colonel asked, "Well, is Edward finishing soon?"
After one year, Edward was basically almost finished with his automail surgery. The only thing that they haven't checked studying were some books laying around and the camera that was laying around.
"Hey Alphonse!" waved Ed with his automail hand.
"Hey brother!" said Alphonse.
"Hey runt," teased the colonel.
"Uohhh! You called me short again!" shouted Edward.
"So brother, why did you call us in here for?" asked Alphonse.
"I made a huge discovery a while ago. I asked the old hag for confirmation and she also agreed," said Edward seriously.
"What's going on?" asked the colonel sweating.
"Take a look at this camera and photo album," said Edward.
Going through the photos in the camera and the photo album, they noticed photos of their uncle or father. However, their father hasn't changed since the years went by and so did their uncle.
"What... is this!?" asked the colonel. Pointing at one photo, he could see himself as a baby with the Kyofu in the background.
"Look at this too! He was everywhere! Even in the war," pointed Alphonse at one photo with his uncle and his comrades during the Ishvalan war.
"Here too! Why is he with this foreigner too!" Edward pointed at this photo with distinct facial features.
"No way..." said the brothers.
"There's something wrong with your father and uncle... They must have lived over 100 years," finished Colonel Mustang.
In one photo, the brothers were still babies while Trisha smiled beautifully. Next to her, Hohenheim was crying tears while their uncle was smirking at them. Looking at the back of the photo, it was written, "I'll see you guys in Central City."
