19 Emergency
*Sigh* He gently kissed the area between her brows.
"I apologize for my rude behaviour. Recently certain things have happened which has made me quite emotional. I have prepared a nice dinner today as a guest was coming. Please enjoy it, while I take a walk outside to cool my head."
Without waiting for anyone's reply Oliver quickly walked out of Lena's house.
Oliver leapt on to the roof and he tried to look for his cigarette pack and lighter. 'Damn! I don't have one on me right now cause my younger self hated smoking.'
A deep sigh of helplessness escaped his lips.
'Sometimes knowing more than others can be very tiring. Ignorance is fuckin' bliss... but I would still choose this over ignorance.'
Although Oliver wasn't a natural born Saiyan, but it didn't mean that he wouldn't be affected in any way when he changed his race.
He took out his cellphone and gave a call to Romano.
"Bring the strongest possible liquors that you have. I want to get drunk today."
Romano was a smart man. He quickly guessed that only emotional baggage would make a man as strong as Oliver behave like this. So, he called Jeff and asked him to pick up Emma and Matilda and meet him outside Lena's house. Meanwhile, he quickly put 20 bottles of the best alcohol from his collection in the car and raced to pick up Chloe, Molly, and Ellie. After all, alcohol always tastes better in the company of women.
It barely took half an hour for Oliver's new team to assemble outside his mother's house. All of them except Ellie had Saiyan bloodline, so they could easily make out the lonely silhouette of Oliver sitting on the roof.
Without much thought, they quietly jumped over to his side... Jeff had to carry Ellie over.
Oliver had noticed them as soon as their car had entered the street, but he wasn't in a mood to talk much. He just gave a small nod to acknowledge their existence, grabbed a bottle from Romano's hand and started chugging it down.
Jeff took out a small container from a brown bag and put it in front of Oliver.
"Boss here have some chicken wings. I have also brought some BBQ dipping sauce and Buffalo dipping sauce."
Oliver put one wing in his mouth, took a swig from the bottle in his hand and said, "Thanks for coming here, guys! I really appreciate it. Come sit and enjoy too. I'm in a bad mood so I don't want to talk much. Let's just enjoy the silence of the night today. Just DON'T fuckin' look at the moon."
Molly really wanted to question why her boss was feeling down, but the disapproving glare from Romano and Ellie reined her in... barely.
... Time passed slowly, and although the dinner was able to steal away their for some time, it couldn't do it after all the food was finished.
Worry and unease were slowly easing their way in between the three women. Lena was slightly worried about her son after the small event in the evening.
'It seems like something has changed in Oliver. Since the day he brought Emily to meet me he has been acting weird. Like the sudden increase in his cooking skills. Even decades of practice won't be enough to cook food as delicious as my son cooks. Not only that, I saw he torso when he was sleeping late that day and by god, he is completely ripped. And then his sudden outburst today... Just what is happening?'
Lena looked up and saw that both Emily and Ashely were looking at her with a guilty look.
"I'm sor-" Ashely opened her mouth to say something but she was quickly cut off by Lena.
"You don't need to be dear. It was clearly Oliver's fault for behaving like that. Though what I'm worried about is why did he behave like that when he say you? Do you guys have any idea about he would behave like this?"
Emily and Ashely were silent for a moment thinking very hard about anything in their memories related to Oliver... Nothing came up.
"I really can't think of anything ma'am." Ashely shook her head in disappointment.
Emily's lips quivered as if she wanted to say something but stopped herself at the last moment. It didn't go unnoticed by her companions.
Lena softly put a hand on Emily's shoulder and said, "Emily if you know something, I would really appreciate it if you could share it. I don't want my son to be any kind of bad situation."
Emily gave an awkward smile and said, "I don't exactly know what happened but I think I know when it happened. The night he took me in he was just like every other person out there, but the next day something had clearly changed within him. When I wished him good morning the next day he was sitting outside with what appeared to be dried tear stains on his face. There was this... this aura... around him, like a predator. Honestly, I-"
A loud crack sounded through the whole room. A second later the whole space around Lena's house was covered in a deep shade of blue.
Oliver appeared in front of them out of nowhere and hurriedly checked them for any injuries. After taking a deep breath to calm himself he started angrily glaring at an oblong shaped purple portal-like structure in the air.
'The fuck Orb, you can't do this!'
[Look man, I know this not right and I admit this is my mistake. I am trying to rectify it, but you ought to help me a bit. And if you don't want to that's okay with me. It will be just one more failure in my long list of failures and your world will be completely connected to a more savage world.]
'Are you threatening me?'
[I'm not. I'm just telling the truth. I will even heavily compensate you for taking this emergency mission. Like double SVP during the first month in the mission world. Three skills for free for all the people who are affected by this situation, except you. And I will even help you use the Ozaru form for a total of five minutes without losing rationality. All you have to in return is complete the main mission which will literally stop your world from being doomed.]
'Sigh, if I was alone, or only with my subordinates in this space barrier then I wouldn't even think for a second before accepting such a good deal. But Lena, Emily, and Ashely are also present in this barrier. I don't want them to be hurt.'
[I know that! If not for those three, why do you think you are being compensated so heavily. Look this event happened out of nowhere in all the worlds. Their candidates were strong enough to stop it or delay it for my arrival.
At first, nothing happened at your world, so I started completely focusing my mind on healing the space-time disturbances in each world. Just as I was finishing the biggest one, it started happening here in your world. I was somehow able to stop a complete connection between two worlds but a small but stable passage has come into existence. And they suck! That is why I quickly quarantined the space around the area with the highest Spirit density.
So, it was kind of my own negligence that led to this AND I'm trying hard to fix it.
Now, fucking accept the mission if you want, if not we can all wait for you and everyone in the quarantine barrier to die before selecting a new candidate.
As your an anomaly, maybe we won't even have to select a candidate and my job with this world would be over. Sounds okay to me either way.]
By this time Romano, Jeff, Emma, Matilda, Chloe, Molly, and Ellie had also come inside the room.
There was a weird stand off between them and Lena's group. But obviously, Oliver didn't have time to pay attention to them.
'I will accept the mission but I do need to know why and how this happened?'
[Sigh, I'm sick of your questions. Do you even know how much energy I will consume to send those three to the mission world with you? If you want I can leave them in this quarantine barrier and they will automatically die when the barrier collapses. Ungrateful bastard, you have 10 seconds to decide if you want to accept the emergency mission or not! 10, 9, 8... ]
'Fuck, I accept it.'
[Good, the mission will start in 30 minutes please prepare yourself Candidate #2212345678.]
