26 Discussion and Survivors
The group chose not to say anything about what happened and left the store with a backpack full of food and drinks and took the gallons again to fill with fuel.
A strange atmosphere was thick between them as they left the convenience store at the station. Bethany, Thobias and Matthew were together and walking?a little further back was Julie and Terry. Terry realized that the group did not have the affinity they had before, and he knew it was because of him.
Feeling guilty, he tried to reason his action. "I know I'm wrong and I was an asshole to keep you away from the group thinking you infected Matthew,?but I did what was necessary. If you had been infected and nobody did anything you could be a danger to the group, even killing us. "
Bethany then said to Terry and Julie, "We let you come with us, we share our food and we risk our lives to protect you and this is how you repay?us?"
Julie clenched her fists and responded as if she had been wronged, "Although we may have acted in a wrong way, expelling Matthew without firstchecking to see if he has been infected, I am sure you would do the same if you were with any of us."
Thobias then chuckled and tried to calm both sides as he tapped Terry and Matthew's shoulder. "Although I agree with what Terry and Julie did,?I think they made a mistake in the way they did it. We cannot fight over something that would still happen sooner or later if you had been infected. "
Bethany began to breathe breathlessly as she pointed her finger at Thobias's face. She was going to shout something at him, but Matthew interrupted?her and said with a calm expression on his face:
"Do not worry Bethany. They were right, although I was annoyed before. Now that I calmed down I realize that what they said is true. If that happened?to any of us, I would do the same thing. After all I want to meet my parents. "
Bethany then stopped walking and stared at Matthew for a few seconds with a shocked expression. Then she walked again and began to murmur something?that no one heard.
The group reached the gas pumps and filled the gallons, which was equivalent to about 200 liters of gasoline. Satisfied with everything they couldget on this relatively easy mission, they returned to the bus and stored all the backpacks and gallons of fuel at the bottom of the bus. They parked the bus on the side of a fuel pump, filled the tank, and resumed their journey to Dallas.
The group was running all over the city in search of continuing to Dallas, even encountering hordes of zombies at times. But, they could not get?out of the city. The whole place was infested with hordes of zombies or cars and other types of things thrown into the road, which prevented them from leaving the city.
Finally, night came and they decided there would be no way out of town by bus, so they decided to break into a house and sleep there. They planned to resume their journey on the next day, this time it would be even more dangerous since they would have to walk to Dallas.
They parked the bus and invaded a house, which was not a difficult task since Matthew simply cut the bars and the door with his sword. When they entered the house carrying the gallons and food, they put a closet to close the door and they came across a strange scene, a family was in the dining room eating.
Both groups began to stare when the group that was already in the house took a pistol from the table and pointed to Matthew's group. The middle-aged?man asked them, "What are you doing inside my house, and fully armed?"
Matthew put his sword in the inventory and raised his hands. Although he was stronger than before, he did not think he could win a pistol yet.
"We just came here to spend a night. We did not know there was anyone inside the house. If you did not like it, we could leave now." He said.
The middle-aged man said as he lowered his pistol, though he still had it in his hand in case Matthew's group would try something funny: "I'll let?you spend the night here, but tomorrow you'll have to leave again."
The woman sent the two small children they had and said:
"You cannot do this, Tom, they're still young."
Tom frowned and said as he stroked Maria's forehead. "I do not like having to do it either, but I have to do this to protect you and the kids."
Maria began to cry as she spoke, "But they will die out there. Your group was almost wiped out by the hordes and you barely survived yourself.?Doing this is no different than sending them to their deaths."
