Chapter 13

“Gather!”
They had just eaten and had not rested for long before Chiliarch Ling gathered everyone once again.
“Adjutant, distribute their undergarments!”
“Yes!”
Zhao Gao and the others saw a few carriages being pulled in from the entrance of the field. Inside the carriages were piles of black clothing.
Zhao Gao only understood what was going on when he received the clothing.
It turned out that these were the kind of clothes that were worn underneath the armor during ancient times.
Each person had two sets of clothes. Each set was divided into top and bottom. The bottom was similar to those worn in modern times. But the material was very coarse. Zhao Gao touched them with his hands, and they certainly did not feel as comfortable as modern cloth.
As for the top, it was like the kind worn in period dramas. The top had no buttons, only two strips of cloth to secure the top.
“Take your clothes and come with me.” Chiliarch Ling waved and led everyone out of the field.
Zhao Gao followed the army out. While walking, he continued to observe the camp.
Outside of the training ground were military tents. These military tents were set in a straight line, forming a square of ten tents per side.
In the middle, there was a military tent that was obviously different from Zhao Gao’s.
The military tent in the middle was three times larger than Zhao Gao’s. Not only were there soldiers guarding the entrance, people wearing the same armor as Chiliarch Ling were entering and exiting the tent.
Zhao Gao and the rest continued to follow Chiliarch Ling, walking past the outer tents. After walking for about ten minutes, towards the east, they saw a large wooden door.
Only at this point did Zhao Gao discover that they were in an impenetrable military camp.
This military camp was completely surrounded by walls of green bricks.
The height of the wall alone was three meters high. There were sentry towers, as well as patrolling soldiers on the wall.
Zhao Gao and the others were led past the wall. Zhao Gao observed that the wall was actually one meter thick.
How could the walls of a military camp be so sturdy?
————
After they came out of the camp, they saw a stream about three hundred meters away.
The source of the stream was in the distant green mountains.
Other than this military camp, there were only green mountains at a distance. There were no signs of human habitation in this place.
“Alright, stop looking. The male soldiers will wash up in front, and the female soldiers will wash up in the upper reaches of the forest.” Chiliarch Ling finally revealed his purpose for bringing them here.
Zhao Gao was stunned. Was the treatment of ancient soldiers this good? They could actually bathe.
When he woke up this morning, Zhao Gao had no idea where to get water. Besides, soldiers were not allowed to wander around the military camp. Hence, he could only run towards the field after he got out of bed.
“Don’t just stand there. Collect the Acacia Pills from me and quickly wash up so we can begin our training.” Chiliarch Ling hurried them along, on seeing their bewildered expressions.
“Yes!”
Everyone quickly queued up in front of Chiliarch Ling. There were two soldiers there. They took out tiny black pills from a black bag and distributed them to Zhao Gao and the others.
When it was given to Zhao Gao, he picked up the black pill and sniffed it.
A light fragrance of herbs and soap emanated from the black pill.
This ‘Acacia Pill’ should be made from the Acacia plant!
That was what Zhao Gao understood it to be.
Zhao Gao walked to the stream, holding the pill.
In this ancient environment, it was obvious that the stream had not been polluted. The water was so clear that the bottom of the stream could be seen.
Zhao Gao waded downstream. He did not want to be near anyone, and definitely did not want to look at other’s naked bodies.
After two kilometers, Zhao Gao stopped and began to take off his armor. Finally, he took off his short-sleeved shirt and thin pants.
It was summer at Blue Star before Zhao Gao and the others entered the Talent Space.
Hence, most people were dressed in light clothing. This was especially so for the girls, who wanted to show off their fair skin.
However, since coming here, they would indeed be unlucky if they were wearing too little.
The armor on their bodies were basically made of iron. Hence, any thin cloth under the armor would not be able to offer much protection.
For every movement made, the metallic armor would not fail to rub against the skin. After some time, one’s skin would start to turn red and even blister. This would cause pain every time a movement was made.
Zhao Gao had personally experienced all these. It was only after he had leveled up and added stats points, that his physical strength had been increased. That gave him immunity to the friction caused by the armor.
Zhao Gao took off his clothes and jumped into the stream. The water reached his waist level.
Zhao Gao quickly washed himself with the Acacia Pills and then went ashore to put on his pants. He started to practice Beginner Combat, half-naked by the shore.
Rising, Charging Palm, Inch Fist, Turning Elbow, Locking Throat Claw, Knee Kick, Battle Ax.
Zhao Gao practiced every move meticulously.
The memories in his soul and body were drawn out as he practiced. Zhao Gao made the moves faster and faster; and his moves became stronger and stronger.
On the first try, Zhao Gao still felt a little rusty.
At the second try, Zhao Gao got familiar with the feeling in his soul.
By the third try, Zhao Gao had already reached Chiliarch Ling’s level of expectation. He finished all the moves in 15 minutes.
On the fourth try, Zhao Gao’s body began to turn red. Beads of perspiration appeared on his forehead.
However, none of these could stop Zhao Gao from practicing his Beginner Combat Training.
With every practice, Zhao Gao could rapidly grasp the power in his body.
It was only at the fifth try that Zhao Gao stopped practicing and let out a breath of hot air. This allowed the heat in his body to quickly dissipate.
As he exhaled, Zhao Gao’s skin slowly recovered to its usual color.
Clenching his fists and feeling the strength in his body, Zhao Gao had a strong desire to fight. The destructive intent would always surface in his heart.
Zhao Gao took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. Only then did he manage to suppress his desire to destroy. He knew that this was the feelings of one who had gained strength, and one who was eager to use physical force to determine who was stronger.
In other words, this was a sign that he wanted to act tough and show off.
Even though Zhao Gao knew that this was not good, he would always have this kind of impulse in his heart. This was human nature, albeit a mental problem.
However, these issues were not something Zhao Gao could think of right now. Without investing in this, how could he see through transcendence?
This logic was like when one tasted a delicious fruit when he was young. Yet, the adults neither let him eat more, nor did they buy more for him.
However, when he had grown, he would spend money to buy this fruit. Yet, after eating this fruit day after day, he would feel like vomiting whenever he saw this fruit. He no longer had an appetite to eat it.
Then he would say, “This fruit is nothing special!”
The above was exactly what Zhao Gao was experiencing.
