Chapter 60: Sure... Just pass my test before that.
A doubt might arise among your minds. Why did he let his elder brother take the injectable? Simple. Because he knew that his older brother wouldn't stop himself from taking the injectable, or stop doing anything that wasn't harmful to his family, in fact, just because his little brother had said so.
He was a stubborn a**. And so, Arnold did not bother persuading him against taking the injectable.
It would be a fruitless task, anyway. So why bother and waste his energy and his brother's time?
Harry got up from his throne slowly and summoned the two injectables into his hand, which had a completely different appearance from the normal classic appearance of all the other injectables which he had used till now, which had a blue container filled with purple contents and a dark blue needle. The ones that he had summoned, the 'demonic injectables', truly lived up to their name appearance wise.
They had a dark black container which looked so black that it seemed that it could swallow everything. The needle was blood red. There was a red skull symbol right in the middle of the black container which sent chills into Harry's spine just by looking at it.
Harry looked at the two and said in a solemn voice, "Should I inject you now?" He felt like he was asking for the last wish of a person before executing him.
Although what he was doing was technically not at all related to asking final wishes, as he was just asking if they wanted some time or should he inject them right at that time, it had that feel to it.
Ethan took in a deep breath and looked at his little brother Maxine and said with a soft smile that radiated happiness, yet looked forced and melancholic, "Maxine, if.. if we don't make it, take care of Kara, okay? Work for the king loyally, and he will give you many benefits."
He wanted to throw a stone out there and flatter the king, just in case he doesn't live. It might not help at all, or it might stay in his mind and he would give a few extra benefits for Maxine. It was worth an attempt, even though it was unlikely to work.
Maxine felt chocked with emotions as he looked at his brother with tears forming in his eyes. He forcefully stopped himself from crying and bit back his tears. He smiled softly and nodded, showing that he would.
Ethan looked at Harry and nodded, indicating that he could proceed now.
Harry walked towards Ethan and swiftly stabbed him in his neck. This surprised Maxine as he did not expect the king to stab that thing into his brother's neck. He did not know what an injectable was.
Arnold did not even have a slight change in his expression as he bowed down even lower as he waited for the king to stab him. His calmness to the situation was extremely uncanny.
At this stage, it didn't look like he had extreme control over his emotions anymore. It looked like he couldn't care less. He didn't give a sh*t.
Harry calmly stabbed the injectable into Arnold's neck almost instantly after he bowed down a bit lower.
Maxine was stupefied at the scene that played out in front of him. He had his mouth wide open as he stared at his two brothers.
Ethan was twitching violently. It was so violent that it looked like his body was spasming. Maxine was about to go and help his brother when Harry stopped him. Maxine didn't know how he would 'help' his brother. He just wanted to do something to ease his pain.
Harry stopped him because Rae had said, "Harry, stop Maxine. This trial should be endured by them both alone."
Harry did not want to stop him because he knew how he felt, but upon Rae's order, he had no choice but to restrain Maxine, not letting him leap over to his brother.
Maxine was struggling, trying to break from Harry's grip. You might ask, 'He knew that his brothers would endure extreme pain, right? Then why is he panicking so much right now?'
It's human nature. No person can watch his loved ones endure pain. Well, maybe except people like Harry.
Ethan was in so much pain that he couldn't even form proper thoughts or try to think of what was happening to him right now. Pain engulfed his complete body. He felt like he was being burned in fire continuously, only that something within him wouldn't let him die and thus, the pain would keep continuing.
Arnold on the other hand did not experience any sort of pain. He was in a dark place. All he could see was endless darkness around him.
He was extremely confused as he looked around him, trying to figure out where he was.
'I don't feel any pain. Did His Majesty miscalculate something? Or am I just not suitable to gain the powers?', he thought.
Just when he was continuing to feel more and more confused, the darkness around him was replaced by a grassland with a warm and sunny atmosphere. A young male with a charming smile was standing in front of him. Was that his reflection?!
The young man standing in front of him looked like himself. It was just that.. he looked a bit older.
[Author's note : I will call the dude who appeared in front of the real Arnold as the older version of Arnold and the real Arnold as just Arnold for the purpose of convenience.]
The older version of Arnold looked at Arnold with a charming and bewitching smile and said, "You ready to gain unimaginable powers?"
