Chapter 144 - Lawyers Letter
Chapter 144 Lawyer’s Letter
Looking at Rodney, who was barking at her like a mad dog, Jocelyn could not help but frown. She did not know what she had done to offend him that made him slander her in front of Bevis and then in front of Aren.
Did she look like a pushover? Or did she not look intimidating enough just now?
Jocelyn hugged the rose in her arms and sniffed at the rich fragrance. Her eyes were fixed on Rodney until he shut up. “Threaten? I was just giving a kind reminder. I hope before you slander me next time, you can show some evidence.”
“I’m a person, not a toy that you can shout or scold at will.”
Looking at Rodney, who did not seem to know his mistake, Jocelyn felt a burning anger.
However, after hearing Jocelyn’s explanation, not only did Rodney not restrain himself, but he also became even more arrogant. He raised his eyebrows, shifted his gaze from Bevis to Aren, and smiled coldly.
“Evidence? Isn’t the evidence with you? Jocelyn, when are you going to stop acting like a fool? The man just sent you a bunch of sunflowers and even invited you to dinner. Everyone witnessed it.”
“Jocelyn, don’t you have to destroy the evidence before telling a lie. Otherwise, what you say will make us laugh.”
Hearing that, Aren’s face, which was already cold, turned even colder. Jocelyn felt like the temperature around her dropped a few degrees.
Just when Jocelyn was about to explain, a faint smile appeared on Bevis’ face. He looked at Aren and explained, “Master Aren, please believe that this is a misunderstanding.”
“There is no inappropriate relationship between me and Miss Jocelyn. We are just ordinary friends. I sent sunflowers because it’s a habit I’ve had for years.”
“As a gentleman, you shouldn’t meet a girl empty-handed. This is what my father taught me.”
Bevis paused for a moment. Seeing that Aren did not look impatient, he continued.
“As for what he said, it’s true that I invited Miss Jocelyn to have dinner with me, but it doesn’t mean that there is an improper relationship between me and Miss Jocelyn. I’m just a friend. Is there anything wrong with inviting my friend to have dinner with me?”
“Rodney, right? I don’t know why you came to that conclusion based on such small things. I can only say that Miss Jocelyn and I are innocent. If you don’t believe me, I can only get my lawyer to talk to you.” Bevis shrugged his shoulders, looking especially charming.
“I believe the law will tell us the truth. However, when the time comes, as the one who slanders, you will probably have to spend some time in jail.”
“I don’t know if Ivy University will take in a student who used to be in prison when you get out.”
Hearing that, Rodney instantly turned pale, wanting to sneak away.
Unfortunately, he was surrounded by people, so he couldn’t possibly leave without people noticing.
Looking at Bevis defending Jocelyn with his glib tongue, Aren became even more annoyed. Before he decided to marry Jocelyn, he had already done a thorough investigation of her. He knew that Bevis had once courted Jocelyn, and he also knew that Jocelyn didn’t agree to it. Other than that, there was nothing between the two of them.
But who could say for sure about feelings? Maybe one second, Jocelyn did not like Bevis, but the next, she might be attracted to him because of his perfume or because of his smile.
The thought that Jocelyn might fall in love with another man and spend the rest of her life with him made Aren feel even more frustrated.
“What is your name again?” Aren did not reply to Bevis. He looked directly at Rodney.
Hearing Aren asking for his name, Rodney looked happy. However, before he could answer, Aren said impatiently. “Forget it, there’s no need to ask. Just wait for my lawyer’s letter.”
