The Story of a Protoss

36 Suffocating

Well hey there!

It's me again! Today is going to be an exciting day.

Right now I am doing some minor chores.

Preparing some breakfast, washing clothes and mixing some herbs.

That's my morning today and I might actually finish early.

I'm hurrying quite a bit cause I want to visit the little sunshine again.

Every time I think about it I know that that...women, is "taking care" of the little sunshine.

She's probably sitting at the table compiling reports about her research into herbs and what not.

I can accept that she is not interested in the patients but she took the job and she expressed her intent to work here.

All the time she is using her time to further research whatever she is even researching. Nothing aside from her research interests her. By now her lack of interest and basic care for patients has lead to a mass of problems. Somehow she is able to keep that all secret by using her research to buy favors and what not. If I remember how some patients had to wait for hours till they got treatment just because she forgot to notify the doctors, I'm about to slap her.

I'm pretty sure that she is using her position as a nurse and soon healer in the hospital as a way to get rare ingredients and favors. I could care less if she at least did the basic stuff but she doesn't even do anything. And no one wants to offend the backers she has brought to her side.

Enough ranting! I have to get the nutritional liquid and her breakfast to the little girl.

As I near the hallway leading to the little sunshine's room, I can see Elice standing in front of the door leading to her room.

She is currently getting yelled at! Yes!

It seems like one of the bosses doctors saw how she just left the room without calling for another nurse to take her place.

"It is your goddamn job to take care of the girl! The boss has explicitly stated that she is not, and I repeat, NOT to be left alone! I have told you time and time again! Your social status is irrelevant here! And yours is not even qualified to matter here!

IF you want to keep working here you have to get your act together and do what you were hired and trained for! This is the last time that this will be overlooked. If we find out that you neglected your patients once more it won't end with you getting fired. We will have a lawsuit filed and you will be sentenced for neglecting your patients and endangering them!"

Doctor Manson is really a darling. She is one of the doctors who has clawed her way up from the bottom. If I remember correctly she was one of the original residents living in the village and studied herbs and medicine in her free time while taking care of her daughter until she was ready to take the first nurse examination organized by the boss.

She passed with flying colors and swiftly rose in the ranks until she got her current position.

I know that a lot of aspiring nurses and nurses are taking her as a role model as it is rare for a commoner to be able to rise that fast.

We, commoners, are "inherently" at a disadvantage. The amount of knowledge and support available to us is significantly lower than that of nobles and merchants.

But I cannot complain. While Doctor Manson had it hard since the establishment of the bosses temple the former village has risen in size, population, and general social structure.

The town has since become home to 2 schools, an extensive library sponsored by the boss and her doctors, an auction house and a well-organized guild.

I had it much easier and the presence of the boss suppresses the nobles to some extent.

Enough of that. I am slightly sad that Elice did not get punished since she does deserve it but I guess she might learn from this. It's not like she's a hopeless case. Maybe she'll become a better nurse.

With her knowledge and talent it would be a pity to lose her but right now she's more of a burden to the hospital.

And I am once again losing track!

I wait for a bit since I don't want to burst into the scene. That would be embarrassing for both of us.

I don't normally peep on something like this.

After a minute Doctor Manson left and I could hear the door to the little girl's room close with a bang. She's definitely annoyed.

I turn around the corner and walk to the door. I wait for a bit. She shouldn't think that I heard everything. From inside I can hear Elice voice and she doesn't sound nice,

"Useless! Why do I have to babysit this girl?! She's just hindering my research! Damn brat why can't she go somewhere else!"

Well, now I am pissed of! The little girl almost got killed and you got nothing better to do than blame her for it!

*BAM*

I violently push the door open and glare at Elice. She is standing next to the remodeled bathtub and is currently looking very surprised. She probably did not expect me to march in on her filthy monologue.

"Get the fuck out!", I am done with holding back.

"Who do!!!"

"GET THE FUCK OUT! If you aren't gone in a second I will report EVERYTHING to the boss personally! I'll make sure you're fired and punished so keep your mouth shut and piss off!"

I do have a limit and she has reached it. How can she blame a small child for getting attacked and almost killed?!

She can see from my eyes that I am not joking and I can see how much it costs her to suppress the insults she wants to throw at me. She's definitely thinking about how she can make sure I'll keep my mouth shut but sorry darling I'll be reporting you once my shift is over. I doubt you'll get something organized till then.

She grabs her bag and begrudgingly leaves the room. I can her stomping and cursing along the hallway. Closing the door I have to first take a deep breath. I am normally not so impulsive. Mostly I am rather timid but I guess at some point it's just too much.

I turn over to the little sunshine and my smile naturally returns on my face. Smiling is the best medicine against stress and anger. My mother always said so.

And nobody is better than this cute little subject right in front of me.

I walk over to her and check the water temperature and the cleanliness. It has not been changed and she has not been cleaned. What did I even expect?

Getting started I start my routine. Let the water out rinse her body and clean her of any residual dirt. Use the cream and gently massage her body while taking care fo her skin at the same time.

Finished I carry her out of the tub and onto the bed.

Today she will not get two consecutive baths. She will get a short one in the afternoon but till then she can rest on the bed. I will read her some stories and massage her once more before letting her have a second bath.

The last few days her body was in need of all these nutrition and the medicine but now her body should not be exposed to too much.

As the proverb says: Too much medicine isn't good either.

I have to pick a good dress for her. Her wardrobe is filled with all kinds of clothes. Pink, black, blue or green dresses. Stockings, socks, panties, bras, and scarves.

The boss probably raided all stores with clothes for children between the age of 10 to 12.

It is a hard choice since her face is so innocent a pure color is needed. No big mix of colors.

Scarves and such stuff are unnecessary since she's indoors.

I know that she was brought here while wearing a green dress. Apparently the dress was gifted to her by Miss Emma and is currently being repaired by one of the tailors in town.

I very much agree with her decision to dress her in green but right now I'd like something different.

The black clothes are not very appealing. Someone might think she's dead and about to be buried.

I know! Bright pink is still the best choice. A nice little pink shirt and small jacket to keep her warm and a very light red for her pants.

She's gonna be so cute!!!

I pick the clothes and close the wardrobe. And walk over to her bed. Before I can dress her I have to let the cream on her skin dry.

I cannot wait to see her in these clothes!

After a few minutes in which I prepared some tea for myself and checked the books, I brought for the little sunshine. I can see that the skin-cream has dried and I can now dress her.

I take the blanket from her and make her sit somewhat upright. First, off I take the white bear panties and slowly slide them over her legs. Her skin is very sensitive after all those baths and I don't want the fabric to rub on her skin.

After the panties, I proceed to the socks. The socks I choose go up to her knees. Just slightly below.

They are a mix of pure white and a very light almost faint pink. The shades are well-made and I bet they are bought from Granny Ming's shop. Such soft fabric!

Sliding her foot and leg into the socks I notice how small her feet are. They don't look disfigured compared to her body but you can notice that they are small. They look petite but once you touch them you can feel the explosive strength. Her skin is soft and all but tenacious.

I previously touched her feet to look for wounds or anything of the sort and noticed that her feet are...strong? I don't know how to describe it. There is a certain strength to her whole body.

When you just look at her you think of her as a cute and innocent girl who will become a devastating beauty once she grows up.

When you see her how I do you see her body. Her strength, represented by her muscles. A clear sign of hours over hours of training to form and mold her body into what it now is. Dedication from a girl that would normally play with dolls, read a fairy tale or play with other girls and boys outside.

I often pondered about how she achieved this body. I was told by the boss that the girl is in the fifth stage and will enter the Mana Refining stage right after waking up.

She's around 10 years old so I did not think of it as that impressive but when the boss told me that she achieved that without any real guidance I was impressed.

I wondered why she did not get any guidance when she was so important to the boss but I did not want to ask. The boss wasn't in a good mood.

But I knew that the girl would make giant leaps under the guidance of the boss and Miss Emma.

Returning back to my job of dressing the girl, I took the pants in my hands. The fabric was resilient and strong. On the inside, the fabric was "coated" with a softer fabric as the strong fabric would rub on the girl's thighs.

The pants were a light red that complimented the pink and white socks while creating a good contrast with its deeper color.

The shirt I choose is a nice bright pink. But before that, I have to check her bust size. I wanted to pick a bra but did not know her size.

32 B. Well someone got potential for the future.

I will have to get a bra for her. I just closed the wardrobe but well. That's so typical for me.

The bra I got for her is simply white with small stripes of black. I think they would look good on her.

After the bra, I once again took the pink shirt and slid it over her head. The shirt was just perfect. The light red pants with the pink shirt in combination with the pure socks was just a killer.

Originally I thought that her light brown skin tone might not be compatible with the pink and red but her skin is nicely accentuated by the clothes.

I'm the best!!! He he he.

But my bad habit is kicking in. She's just so cute!

I have to hug her! Sitting on the bed I take her into my arms. She is lighter than you might expect but she is so nice to hug. So cute and soft.

Haaaaaa.

Rubbing my cheek against her cheek and pressing her head against my chest, I notice something weird.

Tugging? What is this? Is somebody behind me?

Turning around I cannot see anything. But the tugging is still there and something is twitching against my chest. Looking down I promptly release the little sunshine.

A giant gasp escapes her mouth and she falls forward.

I can just barely catch her. It seems like her muscles gave out on her. She was unconscious for a few days so no wonder here.

Holding her up I ask her about her health. Can you see properly? Breathing is regular if a bit fast. Pulse is normal and steady. Her eyes focus properly. She reacts appropriately but throws me an accusing glance for almost suffocating her.

I'm sorry! I hope I did not ruin my first impression...

At least she does talk to me.

"Who are you and where am I?", she gathered her bearing and sits on the bed. She doesn't seem to be truly angry with me which calmed me down.

"Ah yes, Miss.

Authors Notice:

This did not fit into the AN so I'll add it here.

The remark from the nurse about how girls around the MC's assumed age would normally play with dolls or read a fairy tale is not meant to glorify stereotypical education and childhood of girls.

I want to remind everyone who might have felt offended that this is a novel that, for now!!!, plays in a medieval society and as many might now: The role of women and girls was a very fixed version.

Very few women throughout history were capable to rise above the dominated society and established themselves as "women with power".

As such please don't get offended by it as I will not change it.

And yes this is something minor but, hell, I have seen people rage because of much less.
