The Blade Summoner

-9 Growing up

Like the most other days, I stand up wash myself and roam around the castle the entire morning, in the hopes to catch my mother or my father to spend time with me. Also like the other days, my plan doesn't work.

My parents are always busy, but I love the time I get to spend with them. If it is playing around with my father, or learning to read with my mother, both are fun in their own way. So just like the other days before, I leave the castle to meet with my friend Gus.

Our first meet him in the castle, after his mother brought him to work. We joked around and had fun for quite some time, until Gus had to leave. He got his mother to invite me over to his place afterwards, so I went to play with him again.

I knew he was a commoner, but the small house he lived in still surprised me. The door was open, so I knocked on the doorframe and entered. Inside I found Gus at an anvil, hammering on a glowing red rod. His father was a smith, so I suppose he already began to learn for later.

He noticed me and stopped working. He jumped off of his chair, hugged me than ran outside. I was surprised, but followed him. We played catch, but I was in a harsh disadvantage. He was eight at the time, so he was double my age. I managed to catch him a few times, but he held back.

His mother, Claudia, prepared a meal and called us to eat, but it already got dark so I had to leave, not without Gus inviting me over once again.

On my way back, my brothers already came to get me. I waved, as my younger brother came running. He was pretty clingy to Christian and me, his older brothers. Christopher was following us since he learned how to walk, but Christian was the bigger target of his affection.

I don't mind, because Christian is the calmest of us three, he learned quite a few things already, so he taught us sometimes. This didn't help him with Christopher at all, in contrary, he was admired even more.

On our way back, Christian tells us about his lessons today, swordplay and reading. In my mind I already planned out to learn it earlier, for a whole year. I guess Christopher wasn't the only one chasing after his older brother here.

The lessons my brother had were our highlight of the day, because we never really had anything to do. Nothing fun, to be exact.

We reach the castle right as the sun sets, so our bedtime was pretty close. At the front door our parents waited. What happened?

Mother:" Kids! Where have you been?!" She was almost shouting

Father:" Calm down, Aequila. They probably have a good reason"

As he said so, he raised his eyebrows. It was obvious that he expected an explanation from us.

The reply came from Christian:" We went to get Cecil, he was out to play in the city."

Father:" Why didn't you tell us Cecil?"

Ce:" You were busy and I didn't want to interrupt..."

Mother:" Oh... Cecil, I always have time for you! Don't mind the others, just go ahead and tell me next time, alright?" Her voice got softer and she was talking in a normal volume now

Ce:" Okay... I want to go to play with Gus again tomorrow can I?"

F:" Gus? He is the smiths son, living close to the castle right?"

Ce:" Yes..."

My father thought for a second, I had no idea about what.

F:" Do you want to take wooden swords with you? I heard Gus was quite talented with the sword!"

Could I really learn how to use a sword from Gus?

Ce:" Can I really?"

F:" Sure, make sure not to get hurt, okay?"

Ce:" Sure!"

F:" Well, for now, it is bedtime! Hurry, if you don't go sleeping early you will be lacking energy tomorrow!"

This was the first time for years that our father send us to sleep himself, the last time was when Christian went out to buy candy on his own. We had to go to sleep very early that day, as a punishment. Christopher wasn't even born at that time...

Back in our bedroom I got questioned about my day aswell, Christopher seems very interested. I tell them about our game of catch, about his house. Leaving out how I lost, obviously.

In the middle of me telling about it, our little brother fell asleep. Well, no point in going on much further, so I turned around and tried to sleep aswell.
