The Otherworldly King

8 Before The Meeting

It was 3 days before the meeting with the elves. The messenger of the elves has informed them that their chief agreed to the meeting. Since the chief of the elves would come here personally and be an honored guest, King Adrian have told the construction team to quickly finish building the temporary settlements and make the roads look presentable. The scenery of a grand castle was a striking contrast to the rudimentary wooden buildings outside of it but King Adrian still wanted to present a favorable image to the elves.

King Adrian was at his study room alone, reading the book he wrote when he was fifteen years old.

"To lure a local population into becoming either citizens or a close ally of your kingdom, solve a fundamental problem that is currently plaguing their civilization in order for them to acknowledge your sincerity." King Adrian read out loud.

"A fundamental problem...I did recall that angry elf guy talking about how the humans have kidnapped some of their people?" King Adrian recalled the angry outburst one of the elves.

"Perhaps we can liberate the elves who are enslaved? There is still the problem of our strength, though. We don't know if we are capable enough to do that." King Adrian pondered. After thinking a while, he closed the book and looked out the window.

It was raining outside. It seemed they have arrived in the middle of summer which brought many showers of rain after heavy sunlight. King Adrian suddenly recalled his siblings.

"My brothers and sisters...we weren't close but I do grief upon your deaths," King Adrian said with a sad voice.

King Adrian was the fourth and last prince. There was also two princesses, both of whom were older than him. That's right, King Adrian was the youngest of his siblings which explained why no one cared about his daily activities or thought he would be the king, but the late king always secretly had his eyes on Adrian.

"The people who lost their lives that day...We haven't given them a proper funeral." It has been around two weeks since their arrival in this world. They had been incredibly busy building settlements, securing food supply, and other manners of importance that they need to deal with first. Everyone was still grieving about the Vathrians they left behind in their previous world but they knew that they must ensure their own survival first before any formal funerals.

"I promise. When we have developed into a self-sustaining city, I will hold a proper funeral and celebration for the lost Vathrians." King Adrian swore.

"Hey! I heard you managed to come into contact with the elves?" In a wooden building designated for the military, a bunch of knights were out of their armors and speaking to each other casually in the cafeteria. It was raining outside so many knights entered the building to take shelter.

"Uh...yea I was part of the team who escorted them into the forest." A young blonde man with long hair replied.

"Were they beautiful like the legends? Man, I remember the fairytales we heard of as a kid. I heard elves could live for hundreds of years and their beauty is out of this world! Well...I guess that was true since we're in another world now." Another knight said in glee.

"...They were...Especially the leader of that group..." The blonde man with long hair recalled of the female elf who spoke in behalf of the group to the king.

"Vincent! Don't tell me you fell in love at first sight?" Another knight in the table teased.

"I-it's not like that! I was just being honest. She's probably one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life." The knight called Vincent replied while blushing.

"You know they're coming in 3 days, right? Who knows, maybe that'll be your chance!" A knight teased Vincent further.

"Knock it off" Vincent hit his knight friend playfully while smiling.

A Knight captain in full uniform opened the door to the cafeteria.

"Knight Vincent Steins." He called out. Vincent noticed he was being called. He stood up and did a salute.

"Here!" Vincent shouted.

"Come with me." The knight motioned him to come out of the cafeteria.

"Did you do something?" His knight friend asked. It was quite rare for a knight to be called personally. Vincent just shrugged and followed the captain.

The two of them walked to a room where other knights were already waiting. After the two of them entered, the knight captain closed the door. There was a total of ten knights inside the room.

"Alright, I'm sure you noticed that the knights here are all the ones who escorted the elves to the forest. You people will also be the one to pick up the elves directly from a classified location inside the forest according to the messenger's instruction. Here is the procedure...." The knight captain started explaining what their jobs were.

'Yes! I might be able to see her again!' Internally, Vincent was overjoyed that he could come into close contact with the beautiful elven woman he saw before.
