Mystic Pharaoh

16 Ch. 16 - Sniffing out a problem

Thoth High School, Advanced Class 57 Training Field

On a spacious field was low cut turf, sports facilities, and a field as large as a football field in-between two platforms that were half the size. On top of the left platform were a group of a couple dozen students ranging from six to sixteen years of age, while the right platform had only a dozen students ranging from the ages of fourteen to nineteen.

This was around 47 out of the total of 55 students that made up Advanced Class 57 practicing during what was the morning session of the Warrior Class! The Advanced Class was of a different format from the rest of the Academy. There were 99 different classes for each grade level at Thoth High, starting with class 101 for the first year students, 201 for the second year students, and so on.

In the advanced classes there was no separation by grade level, all geniuses who passed the advanced placement assessment in the original pressure chamber would be placed into the advanced class that corresponded to their class number. Even some of the elementary and middle school students could be placed in an advanced class early. It was all dependent on talent.

Standing on the left platform, among the rear most students who were all around 15 or 16 years old like him, was a rather handsome and tall young man with lean but well-cut muscles wearing the Thoth High training gi. His long and wavy black hair was braided to the back, his eyebrows shaped like thick black swords, and his natural aura made him feel slightly overbearing and majestic. Next to him was a beautiful young woman with blond hair and an angelic smile. She had flawless skin that was a magnificent shade light brown that looked almost golden in the sunlight. However, her oceanic blue eyes were cold whenever they looked at anyone but the young man next to her.

This was none other then Casino Riot and Margot Frenzy!

Today was their first day in Advanced Class!

"Lucky, can you use battle ki yet?" whispered Maggie in curiosity, as she looked coquettishly at Casino. Even though she knew that one had to reach the eighth level to be able to release mystic strength of any form from their body, she had still asked this question. After all, Casino had always been able to do the things that they believed were impossible at his level, he totally destroyed all of his friends previous programming with his existence alone. His ignoble background only made this more pressuring to them.

"I can, but my professor told me that I shouldn't display it yet, unless I have sufficient reason," responded Casino Riot indifferently, to which Maggie nodded. Some of the other fifth and third year students in the vicinity sneered at Casino's words when they heard him.

"Is this punk serious?" said a pale young man wearing gym shorts.

"Shameless boasting," said one dark skinned young man wearing red clothes with a dreaded mohawk.

Casino Riot couldn't be bothered to bicker with these new classmates. They would see his capabilities for themselves sooner or later. Well, Casino didn't want to bother about these youths, but was Margot so forgiving?

Definitely not.

"Why don't you two mind your own business? This was a A and B conversation," spat Margot Frenzy at the two boys, while pointing at Casino followed by herself, "You can 'C', your way out of it!"

The pale young man's face was ugly as could be after this statement, while the dark skinned man's face was expressionless in spite of being made speechless. After a few seconds pause he grabbed one of his ear length dreads while turning to the pale young man and muttering in a low tone, "What newly advanced student doesn't think themselves amazing. Weren't we the same? He will learn the difference soon."

"Oh?" Casino Riot raised a brow to this. He was very much anticipating this so-called 'difference'. He thought perhaps only then would school feel fun.

The advanced classes were the goal of every student at Thoth Academy. One of the main reasons being that whenever a student got transferred to the advanced classes he or would seeming vanish into thin air until they graduated and achieved great things. They simply didn't interact with the rest of the student body very much or at all really. Casino was eager to discover the truth behind this oddity. As if his body was reacting to his thoughts, his eyes involuntarily glanced at a gorgeous young lady with purple hair and azure tinted light armor.

This girl's eyebrows were like perfectly shaped crescents, and her eyes were bright and big. To Casino's shock the original dark brown eyes were now a jewel like pink! Her oval face was without a single blemish, and she had smooth jade, pearl like skin. She was lithe appeared delicate, like the wind could blow her over. However, she stood sturdily among her peers. Casino's breathing literally stopped for half a second when he laid eyes on her. However, he was already used to this.

This young lady was none other than Casino's best friend and fiancé, Violet Mercy! She had been in the same class as Casino up until the second year's end assessment, when she was promoted to the advance class due to her outstanding talent and rapid progress.

She was standing on the platform on the right side of the training field, listening to the opening lecture of the instructor on that side. The girl suddenly frowned, as she felt a powerful perception pass over her. She turned her head and her eyes locked with a pair of intense hazel eyes that she had worked hard to forget.

"Luck..y," Violet gasped and said in awe. She temporarily couldn't process what exactly was going on?! Why would Casino be here? He was a commoner, low level low talent! She thought their lives were destined to part for good more than a year ago. How was he here?

Casino Riot noticed this more than strange reaction of Violet, and his mood immediately soured. He knew her well enough to read many things from that lost and panicked look in her eyes. He wasn't sure what to expect, but it appeared his fears were at least partially true. Having not seen her before now was definitely no accident. His face turned cold as he looked away indifferently.

There had always been contention by others in Violet's family and the family of her other suitors. Once Casino's and Violet's talents were revealed they were like mud and the heavens, respectively. Many people begin to fiercely oppose their engagement, but his step-father's reputation held it together. This had long since made Casino feel disgusted in himself. In elementary school it was Magus Clear Sky that changed his perspective of himself. This was why he had such good feelings toward this professor of his.

Had he seriously been betrayed? He wasn't certain. However, something suspicious was clearly going on. He planned on getting to the bottom of it. Casino had never given a damn about things like noble status and social ranking. In his hometown such things were superfluous. There was only two things that made someone truly influential.

Money!

Strength!

Ultimately, with enough strength it was easy to obtain wealth! So truthfully, Casino already had a clear focus.

Increasing his strength!

Surpassing his peers!

When Violet Mercy saw Casino turn away from her, she felt so lost, as if she had just let something terribly important slip out of her hand and it had just broken in front her. Remembering the perceptive force she felt pass her she felt so bewildered. She was one of two people in the class and five people in the school who possessed this level of spirit power. Why did Casino's feel so overwhelming? She bit her lip and turned her head back to the front.

"Is everything okay, babe?" came a deep voice from her left, that made her body quake a little.

"It's..its fine. I just thought I saw something, but it was in my head I guess." said Violet softly, before tuning back into the instructors words. The tall young man with broad shoulders at her left frowned, but said nothing. There was a dark glint in his eyes as he glanced at the students on the other platform, however he didn't see any young men that fit the profile he was given by his leader; which was 5'11, hazel eyes, wavy black hair and he likes to wear his hair cut low..there were no such students matching that description nor the face in the pictures he had memorized.

'Could that waste really have made it here like the boss said he would? No way, right?'

"When a warrior cultivates his mystic ki it is stored in a fist sized location beneath the navel, also known as the mystic root. Mystic Ki that can be released from the body as what we call battle ki!" in front of the group of youths on the left platform was a burly man in a coach uniform as he instructed the youths before him, "True battles are fought with battle ki. A real warrior is one that can properly release battle ki from their body! For those who are unable to reach this boundary they will never become more than cannon fodder. As members of the advanced class, you are expected to reach this step in less than a year!"

This was the man assigned to be the Junior Instructor for Warrior Class of advanced Class 57, Sir Wale. Casino listened attentively as Sir Wale continued his speech.

"The resources available to you are abundant. If you were below the sixth level you could never be accepted into this class. There's no harm, and thus no reason, for you to not reach the eighth level within a year! Only those in the second year or below will be excused from this rule! Only students who reach the eighth level may train with Senior Instructor Maze across the field, where they will take an oath of silence before learning the true path of the warrior!

"Teach..!..er," In was considered incredibly rude and insulting to interrupt a Warriors opening monologue. Nonetheless junior instructor Sir Wale had just being interrupted in such a way, putting him in a bad mood. To Margot's dismay this voice was surprisingly owned by Casino Riot. Casino had recently been ruminating over the things his older sister had taught him about warriors and the mysteries of the word. So upon hearing what the teacher said, he couldn't stop himself and shouted out. He realized upon seeing the sharp glare in the instructor's eyes as well as the few glares and snickers from the surrounding students. However, once one grabbed a bull by the horns, could one simply stop riding it? "Well. Why is that we have to take an oath to learn the true path of the warrior? Is it some big secret?"

Sir Wale sneered in disdain, and spat, before responding, "Those of you with out the capabilities simply have no need to know the truth of this world! You are far too weak! You are unworthy! Either you claw and fight to the peak in a bitter struggle, or you struggle to survive the mundane lower plains. This oath will not impact your life in any way! It's only purpose is to prevent students from spreading undesirable information, keeping the avarian government out of our hair. Now, is there anything else you would like to add while we're here?"

There were more snickers from the surrounding youths. Casino, however, reacted as if he didn't hear the hidden meaning in Sir Wale's words, and there was no one here but himself and the instructor, "What if we can release battle ki, but have yet to reach the eighth level?"

Silence.

Everyone was taken aback by Casino's question. The two youths who heard the conversation between Margot and Casino previously looked at Casino like they were observing a clown, as the young warrior in red with a dreaded mohawk spoke out in frustration, "Hey punk, this isn't the little leagues anymore all right? No one thinks your funny, no one wants to play around with you. We're all serious about our futures here. Take you jokes somewhere else. Or could it be your trying to impress the angel next to you? Pathetic."

Casino glanced at this young man for the first time, as a smoldering intensity seem to rise off of him like mystic steam, speaking coldly, "If you speak to me like that again, you'll be spending the next 3 months in the infirmary."

Silence.

Shock!

And then a giggle.

No one other then Margot thought this was anything less than startling. A new upstart wanted to start trouble with a genius who had been in the advanced class since middle school? This young man looked to be around 16 years old, but he already had a cultivation at the perfected seventh level Hardbody realm. In the eyes of the rest of the students, Casino was about to be embarrassed on his first day of class!

"Hmph," Sir Wale was displeased with these rowdy brats, but ultimately he felt that competition was never a bad thing in Warrior class. Plus, it was a good opportunity to teach this rude punk a lesson, and spoil the one he was certain would be the victor of this match, especially since he was one of Sir Wale's favorite students, Curtis Liverpool, "Since you punks want to play, go ahead and play. You two will spar and the loser will get the hell out of my class for the next two weeks! The winner will be rewarded with priority in the allocation of rank 1 body strengthening tablets this evening.

"State your name, cadet," demanded Sir Wale, stepping forward to look Casino in his eyes.

"Casino Riot." Casino's words caused more wave of murmurs to pass through the crowd. Even the youth with the dreaded mohawk, Curtis Liverpool, had his face turn more stern than before a less arrogant. He had heard Angel Margot call the boy 'Lucky', so he never thought it could be the school's latest record holder.

Even Sir Wale was shocked, his initial frustration and intent to make things difficult for this youth vanished as soon as he heard his name.

What a joke!

This kid was the direct student of a Senior Magus! Sir Wale didn't have the guts to challenge such a person. He suddenly became worried about allowing Magus Clear Sky's student to be hurt. This wouldn't do at all. So his heart bled, as he grit his teeth and put forth an extra concession, "Liverpool, Riot, center stage. Everyone else, withdraw! As a gift from me, if Riot wins this match, I will give him my rank 2 body strengthening pills for this week only!"

Gasp!

Rank 2 Body Strengthening Tablets!

The eyes of every youth on the platform shined green with the light of envy, as the begin to breathe erratically, many of them already plotting on how to make a bet with Curtis Liverpool to take some of his cut away. Body Strengthening Tablets were apart of a set of magical body tempering and potential enhancing medicinal pills known as mystic pills. Mystic pills were known to be very rare, as only an Mystic Alchemy Master was capable of refining these pills.

These alchemists were also all mystic spiritualist, as one needed powerful spirit power to perform alchemy. Thus, one could imagine just how rare these tablets were. There were only two Mystic Alchemy Masters in the entire Nibiru City. One was actually Casino's professor, the well respected Magus Clear Sky. The other was the famous hegemon of the Divine Sun Family, the legendary Sun God Sam, or Samuel Heru. These pills were of course refined by Thoth Academy's own rank two mystic alchemy master, Magus Clear Sky.

The students basically ignored the comment about Casino winning, as in their hearts this was simply impossible. Curtis Liverpool had been in the advanced classes since he was in middle school. He had been practicing profound rank spear arts, and ice attributed mystic rank mystic arts. They wondered if Casino even knew what these arts were.

It was indeed a fact that Casino did not know what these arts were. Previously he was only at the second level for a long time, he couldn't be bothered to focus on anything other than cultivating. He never showed extraordinary potential so he had never received more then one body strengthening tablet every three months.

This, for Casino, was but a small drop in a luxurious pool when he was at the second level of the Hardbody Realm. He truly feared that the results now would be far worse. Thus, having an ample supply due to being awarded priority, and even receiving an instructor's week supply of rank 2 body strengthening tablets, was exactly what Casino needed currently. This impulsive action had suddenly become quite beneficial. He didn't mind showing off a bit for some extra resources.

Merely, his professor asked him not to easily expose his true competence, as he was only at the early-seventh level hardbody realm. She believed it would bring him trouble if certain people knew he could already release mystic strength from his body at such a state. Casino could only heed such logical warnings from his professor, and he truly didn't plan to expose it.

In reality, he didn't currently have sufficient control over his primal ki. Casino quickly discovered that after cultivating the {Primal Madness Sacred Exercise}, his mutated primal ki was volatile and explosive, it was very difficult to prevent it from leaking out. That's how his professor learned so quickly that he was capable of releasing mystic strength from his body.

In fact, all of the senior magi were well aware of this, as Casino's body was leaking primal ki when he first emerged from the original pressure chamber. However, in spite of all of this he was still confident he would be fine for up to ten breathes, and the only opponents that could make him fight that long were on the opposite platform. He had been working hard on controlling his primal ki, after all.

Curtis Liverpool's eyes gleamed with sharpness when he heard the instructors words. Sharing his own rations to appease the professor of this boy? Curtis sneered in contempt. He should be the one receiving those tablets if he won! However, he would allow this little play without causing a fuss. He was merely from a low level aristocratic house after all, where as the instructor was a high level aristocrat. Curtis knew his place, but this Casino was supposedly only a commoner! So what if he had a powerful professor?

After all the other students exited the stage Curtis Liverpool spread his legs, and lowered down into his battle stance. He was an entire head shorter than Casino but he stood looked fearless and strong. The sword on his hip remained in its sheath. Casino raised a brow at this, but Curtis spoke first when he noticed the former's gaze, "You are completely unworthy of meeting my blade. Come, let us finish this quickly. I will let you attack for two full breaths, and then you will fall."

OooOHHH! The crowd below was slightly agitated after Curtis' arrogant banter. This was how a fight should be!

"How cheesy," thought Casino Riot to himself, without responding aloud or even changing his standing posture. He had secretly been maintaining his perceptive force state, so he was able to remain clear headed in spite of being provoked.

"You've got him shook, Curt!

"Yeah! Knock him down, Curtis!"

"This punk thinks he knows something, show him the truth!"

"Curtis, your so dreamy!"

.....

"That's enough!" shouted the junior instructor Sir Wale, causing the crowd to fall silent. However, the uproar had drawn the attention of a few of the senior students on the other side, who had already begun the morning training regiment. This included a beautiful young lady with purple hair, whose eyes shined when she noticed who was left on stage. The young man next to her frowned, and looked over as well. What was so interesting about two low level punks fighting?

Meanwhile, Sir Wale announced the start of the fight, "Okay, positions ready? Battle, start!"

"Come!" shouted Curtis Liverpool aggressively, making a summoning motion with his palm.

"All right, but just remember shorty," shrugged Casino Riot indifferently. It was as if he wasn't even the one who was about to do battle. However, half way through speaking that smoldering intensity flared up once more and the students below had the misconception that there was heat rising from his body. In reality it was a formless power that not even Casino was aware of possessing, let alone anyone else. Nonetheless, the current Casino suddenly looked like seasoned general headed out to war! Although he stood straight like a sword and hadn't assumed any stance, one could see from the look in his eyes that he didn't feel threatened at all, "You've asked for it!"
