24 Strength
When you ask any male in the city what they think of when you say Nightingale, they will respond: Verity Nightingale, the beauty that can make criminals change into saints.
People may say that this is an exaggeration, however no one can deny that Verity has a beauty that can topple entire empires. And that she has the bloodline ability to heal and a personal ability that gives her the elemental ability of light.
She is known for her perfect support and long range attack especially against devils and undead. She is also known as the pioneer of recent medical research.
This very Nightingale is now sighing while working at the hospital.
(Verity) I hate this job. Why can't I be an emergency operator. Or... a nurse at AEA so I could be with... that boy.
Verity blushed.
(Verity) What am I thinking. I'm like five years older than him. He wouldn't like me.
But he did call me sis.
Verity smiled, causing many male doctors and male patients to blush.
"Hey Verity, we need you in room twenty four. There is a newly arrived patient. All the other healers are busy right now so you can go heal him."
"Yes sir."
(Verity) If only the newly patient was that boy, that would be a dream come true.
Verity walked through the white hallways and eventually arrived at room twenty four. On her way to the room, she felt the gazed of many eyes over her entire body making her feel uncomfortable.
These men have no self control, if only they were like that boy.
That boy, even when he stared at her that one time, never looked at her in a weird way. He might have thought she was pretty, but his eyes remained pure. Very much unlike these men.
Verity was about open the door when she heard the voice of a frustrated man.
"When is the doctor gonna arrive, I swear I'm going to sue them for being late all the time."
"I'm sorry sir, the doctor will arrive shortly."
Verity opened the door and walked in.
"Hello, sorry for the delay. May I ask what the patient has been diagnosed with?"
A nurse to the side answered immediately.
"He has a couple of broken bones and mana deficiency. Overall, he is fine and only requires a rank 2 life spell for treatment."
"Ok, take me to the patient."
The nurse led Verity to a bed in the far corner where a boy was lying in bed squirming with pain with his eyes closed.
A man who had white hair and looked like he was in his thirties was right next to the boy.
"Took you long enough."
"I'm sorry sir, we will make sure that our response will be quicker next time."
The man snorted.
"So are you going to heal him now?"
"Yes sir, we will heal him right after I check his condition one more time. Just to be sure."
The man nodded and backed away allowing Verity to examine the boy on the hospital bed closely.
Verity froze.
She stared at the boy with wide eyes and muttered.
"This can't be."
The injured boy on the bed was the very boy she was constantly thinking about for a day.
And he was injured.
Verity hurriedly gathered her mana and cast a spell. The whole room shone an vibrant green and the boy was healed almost instantly.
The nurse and the white haired man gaped at this sight.
(Nurse) T-that was a rank 4 life spell. Why would she do that?
The boy let out a sigh of relief as he stopped squirming and slept peacefully.
(Verity) Calm down Verity, he is injured so you need to take care of him.
But why was he injured?
Verity turned around and glared at the white haired man.
"Who did this."
The man jumped up in shock and answered timidly.
"What?"
"Who got him injured."
"H-he was attacked by humanoid robots."
"So it's them again."
Lately, assassin robots were released into the street to target random people.
They would walk around aimlessly until they find a random target and attack it. It didn't matter if they were strong, weak, girl, boy, old or young. They really just honestly attacked whenever they wanted to.
(Verity) I swear, if I catch a wind of whoever did this, I will find them and arrest them.
Wait. Why do I care so much about this boy?
Verity turned around and to look at the boy.
"What is his name?"
The white haired man raised his eyebrow.
"Why do you need to know?"
Verity sent a cold gaze.
"Cause I need to record it in the database."
The nurse to the side puffed up her chest proudly.
"No worries ma'am, I already recorded him to the database-"
The nurse immediately stopped as Verity threw an ice cold gaze at her. The nurse started to tremble so bad that she barley made out coherent sentences.
"H-his n-na-name is Ark ma'am."
Verity nodded her head.
"Now take this man outside and talk about the fees."
"Ma'am, we already did-"
"Go outside now."
"Y-Yes ma-ma'am."
As verity watched the nurse and the white haired man run out the door she immediately turned around and knelt right next to the boy.
(Verity) Its ok, I am here for you.
Verity gently stroked the boys hair while giving a smile that would've captured any heart if there was a male in the room other than the boy.

James put down the phone trembling with rage.
His best friend, Ark, had once more gotten hurt and he couldn't do anything to prevent it.
First was at Ark's original home. James knee Ark was being abused by his foster father, how could he not? He was his best friend. No matter how well Ark hid it, he still knew. Yet he couldn't do anything. He was still a child and was too weak.
Next was the incident with the bird. While Ark was brave enough to distract the bird to save others, James had stood there, legs frozen in fear.
He watched as his best friend got eaten right before his eyes, yet he was still frozen. Because he knew, he was weak.
Now this, Ark was targeted by assassin robots. And James wasn't there to help him, nor could he make a difference if he was there. Because he was too weak.
James glared at his hands and clenched them into fists.
I will become stronger.
