The Midnight Ark

33 Orphage

Ark left the library and called down another cab.

"Hey isn't it Ark, how ya doing boy."

"Thank you sir for being here all the time."

"What do you mean? I was just passing by."

"Sure, sure."

"Same place I presume?"

"Yes sir."

Ark closed his eyes once he got into the cab.

The amount of information that he just absorbed from the library got him thinking.

First were the elements. After reading the whole book, he had sorted out what elements could possibly exist.

The five base elements: fire, water, lighting, wind, and earth. Ark had sorted it out like this because when put together, they made a balanced circle of elements. Shadow and light had no place in this circle. Next were the three celestial elements: light, shadow, and time. Light and shadow elements did exist, that was a certainty, it was confirmed by his special bloodline. Time however, was a possibility.

There was a clan that claimed it to be true and even demonstrated its might in war. When they entered the battlefield, it was said that it seemed as though they could predict the future with their strategies. That every cut from their blades would make you feel older.

After the three celestials were the four pillar elements. The theoretical soul, life, demonic, and death. The soul element was again proved by his bloodline and life element was already confirmed. Since the life element existed, so should death and then lastly, demonic mana. All of these elements were very likely to exist in theory. But of course it was just Ark's speculation. His theory you might call it. While it was very plausible, it had a lot holes in it.

The second thing he learned was that he seemed to be a bit special.

The Krusader clan, known for their mystical eyes gained from their bloodline. They gain a unique pattern and a specific color for the attributes element they awaken or possess. But only one. It can be the element you hold from birth or a new element you gain.

The reason why this eye is so overpowered is because it increases affinity towards the element for a limited time span while also increasing resistance towards an element. This means that they can use higher ranked spells and abilities at a reduced cost.

Imagine if two rank 4 wizards were evenly fighting it out when suddenly one of the wizards started to spam higher ranked spells with no effort. Who would win?

The answer is obvious.

Yet this isn't even the most broken part. The oculus allows warriors to evenly fight against wizards in just spells alone. Simply put, it makes talentless warriors into genius wizards.

Usually, those who awaken an elemental ability mostly become melee fighters. They don't need to study and research like other mages in order to grow stronger, the ability grows with the person. The oculus gives an ability similar to this.

However, no matter how many elemental affinities you possess, you can only have one oculus. However, Ark had not one, or two, but three. Shadow, the element he was born with. Soul, an element that links to the throne room in his soul. And fire, an element that appeared ever since he survived the assassination attempt.

But why?

Ark held his head groaning at the headache he was having.

"You ok kid?"

"I'm fine sir."

The taxi driver frowned.

"Take care of yourself kid. It's not good to overexert yourself."

Feeling warm from the words of the taxi driver, Ark smiled.

"I'll keep that in mind."

Seemingly satisfied the taxi driver pulled back onto the floor.

"We're here, that will be 10 copper."

"Ack! Can't you give me a discount?"

"I already did."

Sighing at his lack of expenses, Ark pitifully pulled out his wallet and looked at the meager amount he had.

Trembling, he took out ten copper coins and placed it in the drivers hand.

The taxi driver smiled and took off.

That fucking cheapskate. He had me pay 4 copper last time because there was a pretty lady near me. What happened to that adult charisma.

Lamenting at the greed of humans, Ark walked towards the building in front of him. It was a church that was draped in white, it was built in an old style that was classy. To the top of the building was a sign that read ORPHANAGE.

Ark stopped in front of the doors and knocked twice.

Immediately, the door opened and three tiny heads popped out.

"HYUNG!"

"ITS OPPA! YOU CAME SO FAST TODAY!"

"EVERYONE! HYUNG IS HERE!"

Smiling at the bright expressions of the children, Ark held out his arms.

"YOUR BELOVED HYUNG IS HERE!"

Immediately, twenty other kids appeared in front of the doorway and assaulted Ark.

They played around for a bit before finally settling down and entering the house.

"It seems that you are as popular with the kids as usual, Ark."

"Hahahaha, how are you miss Soyeon?"

"I'm very good."

A tall beauty with white skin and long black hair appeared in front of the door. She had swept her hair to the left causing it to cover one eye. This only served to enhance her beauty though.

Ark couldn't help but think that there were a lot more beautiful and handsome people in this world than earth.

Maybe mana has a influence in beauty? At least for current human standards on beauty.

Hey Dusk, add that topic to my research list right next to the theory of five base, four pillars and three celestials.

(Dusk)... ok, and don't call me by that name.

"Hyung Hyung Hyung, we're hungry. Cook us something before we play even more."

Ark wryly smiled.

"Do you guys really want to eat my cooking?"

"Yes!"

"DEFINITELY! You are a better cook than Noona."

Soyeon sighed.

"I hate to admit this but your cooking is better than mine."

Ark popped his neck before smiling.

"Well, I'll do my best today. Seeing that all of you kids are hungry, I'll prepare a feast you won't forget."

Ark then confidently sauntered towards the kitchen with an army of children marching behind him.
