Volume 10, 34: Real Trouble
After walking for an additional ten minutes, we reached a street with broken street lights.
There was no light coming from the next house, only candlelight came from it. I don’t know if this is because they couldn’t afford lights or for some other reason.
Falan took me to the door of a seemingly run-down mansion. The yard was covered with weeds and it didn’t have a single intact window.
But the decorations on it showed me that the building was very luxurious, and that the people living in it were very rich, if not powerful.
But it’s clear the the owner has either experienced something that has left the family in decline or has abandoned the home.
“It seems you’ve spotted something.”
Falan said as she pushed the door open.
“Yes, what happened to the people here?”
“This house.......how should I say it, a general way to put it is that it’s haunted. But the people that the Church sent weren’t able to fix the problem. Later I found this place and its problem and bought it to use as a personal laboratory. Well, would you actually believe that the house cost 10 gold coins?”
“For someone that wanted to get rid of their nightmares, it’s strange that they collected the money.”
Hearing this remark, Falan gave me a strange look.
“But you definitely aren’t normal. How should I put it, you are too calm.”
“It’s because there isn’t anything to be surprised about?”
“Oh, interesting.”
Falan went in after that.
“I don’t know what you would think if you knew that there was a way to move low ranked undead back and forth.”
Sure enough, Falan has gone back to her old trade of necromancy.
Really, Yerbil is here. Aren’t you afraid of being found out?
Shaking my head and confirming that there was nobody near me, I went in.
The living room definitely gave the impression of a haunted house with dust and cobwebs everywhere. Aside from the footprints on the ground, there was no indication that anyone lived here.
“Here.”
There was a light at the back of a staircase and Falan beckoned me over.
I sighed and walked over.
“I say, is it really good for you to casually bring a stranger over to your lair?”
“Well......in the worst case I could turn you into my puppet, so it isn’t a big deal.”
“Where are you getting your confidence that you can beat me......”
“Is that right? Should we test it out before we continue?”
“Where do you get the confidence to talk like that to someone that you met only a few hours ago?”
“Because you and Oyado are so familiar with each other, it means that you are definitely a unique person and there is nothing to be afraid of, right?”
You’ve actually made me speechless!
Thinking this, I walked over to her.
“Well, let me see what you really wanted me to test.”
Falan went down the stairs to the basement. Walking down, I found that it was completely different down there.
The entire basement seems to have been redecorated and the walls even appeared to have been whitewashed.
It wouldn’t have been bad if it weren’t for the gory magical equipment and the magical potions that filled the air with strange fumes.
But what really caught my eye was a container in the left corner. It looked like one of those Biohazard/Resident Evil containers with a monster inside of it.
But inside of it wasn’t a Licker or a Tyrant, but a seemingly translucent soul.
“Hey hey......you aren’t......”
I pointed at the soul.
“Are you going to have me talk to it?”
“Oh my, you are smarter than I expected you to be.”
I admire you a lot, Falan.
“This soul seems to have some important information. He escaped from the Abyss. That’s right, he escaped. It seems that something has happened in the Abyss that has kept necromancy’s summonings from going smoothly. This guy escaped through a small crack in the Abyss into this house, so I let him stay as a guest.”
“Crack? Is it dangerous?”
“Not at all. The crack only allows some lower ranked undead to pass through, so there’s no problem.”
“That’s good.”
This made me recall the entrance to the Abyss under the alter in the Ice Empire. It was sealed over by ice right now, but if that opened up then the Ice Empire would turn into a mass grave.
“So you want me to want me to talk to this ghost? Aren’t you a necromancer? Can’t you talk to the dead?”
“Well, we know the spells that control them. But if you want to talk about communication, don’t even think about it unless you are a necromancer who has become a lich.”
Although Falan didn’t tell me she was a necromancer, after seeing so much do I really need to explain?
“Yeah?”
I walked up to the ghost.
“I seem to have to touch it to communicate with it, is it even possible?”
“Is it possible to touch the dead to talk?”
“I don’t know that. I feel it’s like this.”
I can’t tell her I’m reading a skill description.
“It’s simple.”
Falan waved the undead over to her side.
“Come on.”
“This is really convenient.”
I walked over and put my hand on the undead.
historical
Skill Acquired Undead Whisper
This is a skill......in other words, the Elvish language that I had learned before was also a skill. It seems that any language learned like this would be a skill.
“So you can summon undead but you don’t know what’s going on in the Abyss?”
“Ah, this ghost was trapped in my necromantic field, it wasn’t summoned directly from the Abyss. Summoning from the Abyss won’t succeed after all.”
Falan explained.
Lightly smiling, I turned to the undead in the jar.
Tapping on the Undead Whisper skill, I walked over to the undead.
“Yo. ghost. What happened in the Abyss that made you flee the the Human World?”
“Eh?”
The ghost was surprised and looked closely at me.
“You know the language of the dead?”
“Well, sort of.”
“Let me out! Let me out and I’ll tell you!”
“Tell me what happened first, then I’ll release you.”
“How do I know you are going to do what you say?”
“Because it’s not a big deal to destroy your soul. I can always find another undead to ask. You also don’t have any choice, do you?”
“......Damn it.”
The ghost shook and looked at me.
“Allright, I’ll tell you. In the Abyss a taboo race has awakened. A young Undead Holy Angel appeared out of nowhere, found the Undead Holy Angels that had been hidden in the depths of the Abyss, freed them, formed a new organization uniting many of the races in the Abyss and challenged the authority of the Demon King. He is officially at war with Lucifer.”
“......”
I pressed down on my temples, and slowly asked.
“What’s this Undead Holy Angel Called?”
“Fir. He is called Lin Fir.”
