Chapter 410 - A Truth to Face
Max looked at the paper which seemed like an invitation to him.
When he unfolded it, a picture fell down onto the ground and his brows twitched when he saw the content ...
Talk about being nasty...
historical
It was an invitation to a Wake. The mourning ceremony for a person who had passed away.
The picture in the invitation belonged to Aria. Looking at her bloodied back, it was pretty obvious it was the same injury that Max had treated.
The date of the death was today and the place of death was mentioned as well.
"The b*strad is Clever...he even attached a picture to make sure you don't take it as a prank.." Max said as he crushed the invitation in his hand.
"It's not Werner for sure, but most likely his enemy..." Mr. Cool said as he looked at Max.
"Yeah, it will be foolish to make an enemy out of a Neutral house...at least he would have done it in silence not like this..." Max replied with a nod.
"Nope...he would most likely not try to kill my sister.." Mr. Cool said as he looked at Max.
"Hmmn...you sure are confident?" Max asked with a curious look.
"Of course, he was going to get engaged to my sister.." Mr. Cool said with a smile.
"..."
Max looked at him, his face was clearly saying, 'You are joking, right?'
"Don't give me that look...I had no control over it.." Mr. Cool said as he shook his head. He knew that the Ovens were related to Demons but he couldn't tell it to his Grandfather...not like he had any constructive proof. Besides, the old geezer might not even know what the demons were..
He had thought that he would just help her sister run away when the time came but now he didn't have to do it..
"Anyway, you destroyed my sister's fiance you better take responsibility and marry her..''
"Don't joke around, I have only helped her.." Max retorted.
"Then take her as a reward..." Mr. Cool said with a shrug.
"I can't listen to it anymore...'' Max said as he shook his head.
He wanted to say that Mr. Cool should consider her sister's opinion before making a decision on her behalf but when he thought back to Lisa's words, he stopped. Even though he didn't trust her because of her ability in creating misunderstandings, there was still a chance that she might not be wrong. In that case, his words might make the situation complicated.
"Don't give me that...who will marry my sister now that something like this has happened? Don't you feel even a tinge of guilt for ruining her life?"
"Don't give me that sh*t...there will be tonnes who would still marry her. Besides, do you take me for a fool? Their engagement wasn't even made public, it's most likely not even confirmed yet...so don't think I am gonna fall for you petty tricks.." Max crossed his arms and gave him a stare.
"I am joking...don't take it so seriously..." Mr. Cool laughed it off in the end.
...
"Where am I?" Elly muttered as she looked around. The wooden ceiling, the worn out dining table.... seemed a bit familiar. The fireplace in the hall was heating up the room.
The sweet smell wafting her nose felt nostalgic to her.
"Mom!"
The voice caught her attention and she turned her head towards to see what seemed like a little version of her running towards the door.
A pretty woman stood there, her hair had a blonde shade to it. The moment she heard the little voice, she opened her arms and took the little girl in.
The scene froze Elly. How many years has it been? She couldn't remember, she didn't want to remember...
Her body trembled as she involuntarily took a step back.
But at this moment, she felt a grip on her shoulder.
"Are you going to run away again?"
She turned her head only to see herself.
"Who are you?" Elly asked as she jumped back. The person was a perfect reflection of her very self.
"I am your truth...I am everything that you deny.." The reflection asked as she looked at Elly.
"Don't you remember this time? Weren't we happy?" The reflection said as it looked towards the daughter and mother.
Elly didn't speak. Her face was facing the ground, she didn't care to look at it. She didn't want to remember any of it.
"We can't keep her!! Why don't you understand?!!"
Elly's body shivered, the hairs on her body rose as she heard that voice.
''Why don't you raise your head and see Dad for once? Something might change if you do..." The reflection said but Elly still kept her head down. She was tightly shutting her ears.
"Mom! You won't leave me right.." the little girl asked her mother in the bed. Her father was not present and seemed to be out...
"I don't wanna go with grandpa...I haven't even seen him once.. "
"Hmmn...Mom will never let you go...no matter what...I will always love you..'' the women said with a smile as she hugged the little girl and kissed her forehead.
"S-Stop it.." Elly spoke with difficulty. Her body trembling and clothes drenched in sweat. Her breathing was heavy and she seemed to be in extreme distress.
"Is it really that hurtful? Why don't you try to look at it again? Things might seem different now, raise your head..." The reflection urged her in frustration but the weight on Elly's shoulder, the words that kept waking her up every night...she only wanted to forget it at all cost...she couldn't raise herself...
"Don't you want to change?"
"Nothing is going to change!!! No, I don't want it to change!!! I am not a normal person!!! They could just die, it doesn't matter to me!!! " Elly screamed as her face turned red and she began to pant.
"Why are you crying then?" the reflection looked at her.
'Huh? ....Why?' Elly looked at her tears. It seemed she would break at any moment.
"Pinky Promise?" the little girl asked looking at her mother in the bed as she stretched out her pinky.
"Pinky Promise...Mommy will stay beside you until your prince arrives..." the mother smiled and held her picky out as well.
"I don't want a prince.....I want to stay with mom..." the little girl said with a pout as he mother smiled seeing her reaction.
"P-Please stop.." Elly begged once again. The next, thing....she didn't want to see.
The promise was broken.....she was not someone that women wished for...
"Don't you want to be like that boy? He changed himself, he must have gone through something worse...you have no right to be envious of him when you can't even raise your head.."
The reflection said as it vanished and everything around Elly turned dim.
"You are not the only abnormal person child...there are several people similar to you." The old spirit's voice rang out in the dim area. "Your power is nothing that you imagine it to be.."
"But to see what lies beyond, you have to accept the truth in front. That is something that I can't help you with.."
Elly didn't reply as if she couldn't hear him...
"If you don't have the courage then why not try to look for it yourself.."
With that, everything disappeared and she found herself lying on the ground beneath the open sky.
Tears were still flowing out of her eyes.
Suddenly, a towel landed on her face. It had a pleasant smell to it. But she didn't take it off..
At this moment, Lora was thrown out of the mist as well after failing obviously. The expression on her face didn't look good. Her eyes were wet too..
...
"Hmmn? What was that for?'' Mr. Cool asked as he looked at Max throwing stuff through the air.
"She just reminds me of some lame guy who couldn't see things clearly...." Max said with a self-deprecating laugh.
