Chapter 544 - I Will Take Them All On
historical
"Grandmother!" Reva shouted in worry and fear for her grandmother's life as she saw the huge water dragon swallow Irene and her water swan into its huge mouth.
In fact, Reva was about to fly out unconsciously when Damien suddenly hugged her from behind to hold her back, "Reva, don't! You can't go out there!" Damien mentally tried to make her understand even though he knew how she was feeling right now, especially since her grandmother was the only living blood relative she had left.
"No! I have to!" Reva tried to get out of his hold, but he was holding onto her tightly, making her unable to break free.
"Calm down and look!" Damien pointed out as Reva looked closer and saw a large deformation happening on the water dragon's head, and the next moment a huge water swan escaped out of it along with Irene.
Reva's expression relaxed as she saw her grandmother coming out alive but was still worried to see blood trickling down her lips and her water swan seemed to have shrunk down in size.
It was obvious that her grandmother was running out of ethereal energy reserves, and her water swan's durability had weakened a lot.
Even an ordinary person could see that it wouldn't be long before Irene succumbs to Ruthren's attacks if it continues like this.
And the imperial army was also not sitting still as they quickly regrouped with the remaining men and were charging up their next attack to using offensive ethereal formations to break down the barrier and end this for once and for all.
The only thing slowing them down was the attacks from the Forsaken experts from within the barrier, including Shania and Blake.
Irene was gritting her teeth as she tried to defend herself against the terrifying water dragon, which was continuously shooting out powerful beams of water right at her.
The only way she was able to prevent herself from getting hurt was by using her water swan to shield her from it. But with each attack from the water dragon, her water swan's body was getting deformed more and more to the point it couldn't help but lose its power and get smaller.
She also took notice of how the imperial army was preparing to take down the barrier, but her hands were full to deal with them.
So she quickly sent a mental transmission to Shania, "All of you get out. I will hold them back as long as I can. Take Reva with you! Knock her out if she won't listen. I don't know how long I can hold him back!"
Shania clenched her fists, seeing how Irene's words felt like her last words, and it was evident to her that she was prepared to sacrifice herself to let them all escape. But even if Irene's order was the best possible option, she didn't like to abandon her leader and the person whom she had been following for all these centuries as her trusted aide.
However, the imperial army would break down the barrier any minute, and Shania couldn't risk anything happening to Reva because of it. So it didn't matter even if Irene could hold off Ruthren for a while longer.
"Triton..I am sorry, but we have to go," Shania appeared before a worried Reva, but she immediately protested, "No! I am not leaving without my grandmother. S-She.."
Shania realized that Reva was too stubborn to listen to her and was about to knock her out when Damien suddenly suggested, "Wait, senior! What if I can hold back the imperial army for a while. Can you all help out Irene using the offensive ethereal formations?"
"Huh? What are you talking about, Damien? This is the imperial army we are talking about. I am sorry, but your cultivation is only at the Sky—"
"I know, but you also know that my strength is not as what it seems on the outside. I will take them all on. Just give me one chance, and if I can't slow them down, we will immediately leave!" Damien proposed since he didn't want Reva to lose her grandmother and wanted to save her if he could.
There were about a hundred Forsaken experts left inside the barrier, and each of them was the strongest among the Forsaken as a whole since the weaker cultivators had already left since their help wouldn't change the tide. But Damien thought that the combined strength of these experts could support Irene against her fight with Ruthren.
Shania couldn't help but think quickly, and finally, she said, "Fine! But I can only give you only one minute to see if you can at least slow them down," Shania also didn't want to let Irene die. Thus she couldn't help but feel a bit hopeful about Damien's plan. All they had to do was create a small window to escape along with Irene.
"Damien, you don't have to..I.." Reva was moved seeing how Damien was prepared to risk his life to help her grandmother for her.
"Reva..just trust me..You know how I would never leave without you. Just hold on.." Damien patted her hands as he quickly flew towards the front of the barrier and hovered in the air as he immediately activated his second phase of Undying Wrath, making his aura cause a sudden shockwave because of the explosiveness of his aura. This shockwave didn't go unnoticed as the imperial army saw Damien hovering above them.
But since his cultivation was only at the First Level of the Sky Ethereal Realm, they mocked him for even coming out to fight them since it seemed no different than a lone dog facing off against an army of elephants. It was obvious who was going to get crushed and destroyed here.
However, they didn't like how it was Damien who was looking down at contempt and wondered if he went crazy from being frightened by their collective aura.
But they had no idea that even their collective battle and killing intent was just fart to Damien since he had been through worse compared to them.
Damien already knew that most of the men in the imperial army were at the Sky Ethereal Realm, and even most of the generals were only at the Peak Sky Ethereal Realm while the commanders were at the Heaven Ethereal Realm but very few in numbers.
But because of the power of ethereal formations, their combined strength could make a huge difference, and Damien knew he would have to first cause a huge disruption in their army to weaken them as a whole.
*Crackle!*
And so he raised his hands as jet-black streaks of lightning began to manifest over his arms, much to the bafflement of the imperial army.
