Chapter 249 - 249 Ch. 249 Loraine’s Life Trophy
249 Ch. 249 Loraine’s Life Trophy
Loraine Shu stroked her temple in extreme exasperation after hearing that her subordinates had failed to set up a bugging device to listen to Anxia’s conversation with Elliot. She had told Mei Yin to be careful about installing this small device in Anxia’s room because she knew that only Mei Yin could sneak in without making the occupants aware of her presence.
But for some reason, Anxia still could feel someone had entered her room even though the person who entered to install the bugging device was one of the best thieves in this world.
Has her daughter become keener on her surroundings? Now she was more curious about the conversation between Anxia and Elliot.
Are the two of them planning to leave here? Would Anxia take Elliot away?
“Madam, miss Anxia wants to see you,” one of the housemaids reported.
“Let her in.”
Not long after, Anxia went inside and sat on the long sofa next to her mother was sitting on. “Mom, why do you look pale? Are you sick?”
Loraine Shu glanced at her daughter and gave a faint smile. “No. I’m fine. I was thinking about how you would grant my wish.”
“Which one?”
.....
“Take the Tiffany program from Diego Regnz’s hands.”
“Is it important?”
“Of course.”
“More important than me?”
“Of course not. You are far more important than that program.”
Anxia smiled faintly, which didn’t reach her eyes. “Then you don’t mind if I don’t take it, right? I’m an ex-assassin, not a thief.”
“Xiao Xia, listen to me. This program..”
“Mom, there is something I want to ask you.” Anxia cut in without letting her mother continue her sentence.
Loraine wanted to discuss something else, but when she saw the look in her daughter’s eyes telling her that she didn’t like to discuss anything else before getting an answer, Loraine finally gave up.
“Okay. What do you want to ask?”
“Do you want to live with me? I’m sure my husband will accept you are living with us. Moreover, don’t you want to meet your granddaughter?”
“..”
“I see Elliot living happily here, and it’s all thanks to you. I’m sure you’ll be a good grandmother to our children, that’s why.. I hope you are willing to come with me. Living with me, Lori, Elliot, and with dad too. I’m sure my husband will provide the best care for dad. What do you think? Isn’t the most important thing we are together?”
“That is indeed true. But don’t you want to get revenge on the person who separated us?”
“Is all that on your mind? Revenge?”
“Are you not? For years you hated Michele Wong and wanted to destroy her life. But you instead let her live happily and close to your enemy. I feel you don’t care about your own family. What made you change?”
“Because I already have a family. When I drop my daughter off at school, I feel proud to see her walking on her own two feet to see the world. I can’t wait to see her grow up and have her own two wings to fly through the sky. When I welcomed my husband home, I felt my days were much more colorful, and I saw everything beautifully.
When I feel happy with my family, how can I let hatred ruin it? I’ve long since thrown it away and let go of the past. I feel at home as long as there are my husband and children. It doesn’t matter where we live, whether in Holland, England, or China.. I feel at home as long as I’m with them. I thought you would feel the same way.”
Loraine snorted harshly at her daughter’s long explanation. “What kind of stupid thinking is that? Only fools think like that.”
Anxia’s hands clenched, hearing her mother’s explanation. “Indeed. Then... what is the meaning of a house for you?”
“House. Like this place. A magnificent, big house and also many servants who serve you. This has been my dream house since a long time ago.”
“Since a long time ago? I don’t remember you having a dream like this.”
“You don’t need to be surprised. You were so small back then, so how could you remember everything about me?”
Anxia nodded in understanding, then changed the topic of their conversation. “I will help you. I will take the Tiffany program from Diego Regnz.”
“You will? You’re not lying?”
“But on one condition. If I retrieve it, I will take Elliot away from here.”
Loraine Shu smiled with satisfaction hearing that. “Okay, I agree. But, Xiao Xia.. you can’t force him to come with you if he refuses to go. Have you asked him?”
“Of course, I’ve asked him to come with me.”
“What is the answer?”
“He turned me down.”
Loraine Shu smiled smugly at that but immediately faked it with an expression of sympathy that didn’t escape Anxia’s piercing gaze. Anxia knew this older woman was pleased and sure enough that Elliot would not be going with her.
It seemed what Mei Yin said was true. Elliot was Loraine’s trophy.

(Flashback to a few hours ago)
Anxia had woken up when she noticed that her son was no longer beside her. She looked for her son and stopped when she overheard a conversation between her son and a girl.
“Aunt Jamie said that?”
“Yes. Therefore, I will do everything she says. If your mother wakes up, tell her to come to see me, and we’ll discuss this more.”
“Discuss what?” Anxia appeared at that moment, causing two pairs of eyes to look at her. “What do you want to talk about?”
Mei Yin, originally crouched down to match her gaze level with Elliot’s, now stood up to speak to Anxia.
“I will help you to get out of here.”
Anxia’s eyebrow shot up hearing this because she couldn’t trust this girl completely.
“Mama, we can trust sister Mei Yin. In this place, only sister Mei Yin is the only one who stands up for and defends Aunt Jamie.”
Anxia’s brow furrowed at this, and she looked at the girl with a look of probing and suspicion. “Why are you siding with a weak mute woman? Wouldn’t it be easier for you to side with someone stronger?”
Mei Yin rolled her eyes lazily when she heard Anxia’s sarcastic voice. “I already consider her like my mother. Since the first time I was brought here, only she has been kind to me. Even if I must fight the highest mountain, I won’t let my adoptive mother suffer here. If you plan on getting her and Elliot out of here, I’m more than willing to serve you.”
“My mother would use Elliot to threaten me.”
“Don’t worry. She can’t do anything to Elliot. He was her life trophy, after all.”
