Chapter 282 Pride (1)

[Winner - Shadow King from Bright Horizon]

Jake looked down at his hands.

They were numb with the pain of constantly battering down at the paladin.

For the past thirty minutes, he had been chipping down the paladin's health, and finally, the final strike went down.

He was careful not to take a single attack and it had finally paid off.

Jake smiled as he took a look at his skills panel.

He swiped his hands and a blue panel appeared.

"I need to get fifteen more levels before I can start a push for tier three." He thought to himself as he looked up again.

A small panel appeared in front of him, overlaying on top of his stats.

[Are you ready for the next match?

Y/N]

There was a small timer below this box, as if threatening him to answer before the timer ended.

Jake took another deep breath, calming his nerves, before he clicked on the green button.

Immediately, the box started twirling.

"Should be about now." Jake mused as he stared at the box.

The box stopped moving, and a rough, scarred man dropped from above with a giant thud.

He was the first normal looking human that Jake had faced in a while.

With armor eerily similar to Jake's, with the only difference being the color, he looked like Jake's carbon copy.

He had a smug look on his face as he looked down at Jake.

"So you are my next opponent. How long will you last?" He laughed.

Jake shook his head.

"You are so lucky, I swear to god. You don't even have an epic class or whatever. What chance could you possibly stand." Jake sighed as he looked up at the shot clock.

The box started turning, and with a loud ding, the match was underway.

Immediately, the crowd in the colosseum started roaring.

Jake had no doubt that almost every NPC's attention was directed at the first three arenas. These arenas were where the iron, silver and gold ticketed combatants fought.

And Jake knew that he was going to have eyes on him for now.

Jake didn't move as he looked at his stationary opponent.

The scarred man chuckled as he looked at Jake.

"You should take your chance and go at me. This is the only time you will get to attack me. After that, you will have no chance against me." He said with a haughty smile.

"This is rare. Trash talk? Even for human NPCs, this is rare. I usually never see them so arrogant." Jake shook his head.

But he had to move at some point.

It was very clear that his opponent wasn't even trying to bait him.

It was actually arrogance. The opponent believed what he said. Jake could sense it.

He was actually giving Jake a chance to take a free shot.

"Well, whatever works, works." Jake shrugged as he moved.

He appeared in front of the scarred man the next instant, and his sword swung at the haughty man.

"Slash of Thirst!"

Clang!

Jake was shocked.

His sword made solid contact with the man's armor.

"He actually let me hit him?"

That thought ran through his head.

But what shocked him was what was happening when his sword made contact with the man's armor.

Immediately, sparks started flying out.

The haughty man's face started changing. From arrogance came surprise and then shock.

Meanwhile, Jake felt his hand going numb, and his whole abdomen felt like it was getting fried.

His armor was glowing bright blue, and it was reacting to something.

Jake's eyes fell on his target, which was also glowing eerily similar to how Jake's armor was glowing.

Sparks flew between the sword and armor, and Jake immediately retreated, putting a good dozen feet between him and the haughty man.

"You.." Jake looked at the haughty man.

Meanwhile, his opponent looked down at his own sword, which was now glowing with a bright purple.

"Impossible! I thought I was the last sane one!" He cried out with shock.

"There is another one alive and well. I didn't think that I would meet you here of all places." He looked at Jake.

"What are you talking about?" Jake was confused as he looked at the haughty man.

"Now is not the time to have this conversation. There are too many prying eyes." The opponent shook his head.

"We shall talk after you lose."

Finally, the opponent moved, and Jake moved with him.

Two blurs started moving in the arena. One purple, and one blue.

Both of them clashed, and Jake felt a numb pain in his hand that he never felt before.

"What is this feeling? It's as if my sword isn't listening to me!" Jake thought as he almost felt his sword fall out.

"Damn it. Get your act together Jake!" He reprimanded himself as he took a deep breath, moving once again.
