Chapter 1346: Trauma From The Past

Just then the other doctor entered the room with the nurse.

The doctor greeted An Tian as they already knew each other and An Tian had talked with him about Jiang Yuyan just after she was admitted to the hospital.

“You are already here, An Tian,” the doctor who was the same age as An Tian smiled at him.

“Well, I had to be,” An Tian replied.

The doctor went through the patient’s chart and they talked about what had happened to her just a while ago when she seemed to have a nightmare.

“Physically she is fine, but mentally you have to take care of her as you are her doctor. I have seen the documents you emailed and seeing the history, I think that might be the case again.”

An Tian nodded, “Hmm, that is highly possible.”

The doctor left and Lu Lijun asked, “What were you and the doctor talking about?”

“Have a seat first,” An Tian instructed.

Xiao Min didn’t look like he had any questions as he seemed to know what An Tian and the doctor were talking about.

“When I gave you her medical history file, I skipped something. I thought there was no need for that and she would be only fine afterwards. Didn’t expect you guys to turn like this when you should be together happily.”

“What do you mean?” Lu Lijun asked.

“After you left for England, she had started showing the symptoms of the trauma she had after the accident. Until you were around, all that was suppressed with the responsibilities towards you but after you left she once again had a sense of losing someone after she had already lost Lu Qiang. After that accident and losing so many precious things to her, she actually didn’t get the chance to get everything out of her. That pain, that sadness, loneliness, the hurt she felt was only buried inside. She never got the way or chance to let it out. The kind of person she is today where you might think she is cold and has no emotions is all the result of it. But inside she is broken and has no other way to deal with it than being cold and emotionless so that mask she is maintaining will not lift.”

“What exactly happened?” Lu Lijun asked as he could not get what An Tian meant.

An Tian explained, “Emotional and psychological trauma is caused by extraordinarily stressful events that shatter your sense of security, making you feel helpless in a dangerous world. Psychological trauma can leave you struggling with upsetting emotions, memories, and anxiety that’s hard to get away with. One feels all the emotions at the same time and doesn’t know how to cope with them- exhaustion, confusion, sadness, anxiety, agitation, numbness, dissociation.”

“She had nightmares of the same accident over and over again and even had hallucinations of seeing Lu Qiang. She used to be normal in front of others but there were instances when she could not face anyone and had to keep herself locked up not knowing what to do. She was trapped in pain that she didn’t know how to find her way out of it. She was lost. She turned alcoholic as well.”

“And no one knew it?” Lu Lijun asked, feeling angry at it and she had to deal with it alone.

“Not your or her family members but I tried my best to treat her. It was successful as she didn’t have any such attacks in the past few years but seems like what happened today had unlocked it again. She must be scared and might not want to wake up but you have to be there and make her believe everything is fine.”

“I will,” Lu Lijun assured and asked, “Will she be fine?”

“Such things always leave their imprints but we can keep her away from it as much as we can and one day she might not face it again. Physical wounds are easy to treat but not psychological ones. I had told you this even before but there is one more thing that she is strong and she can be out of it if she wished to... Maybe you can give her a reason for it,” An Tian replied.

“I understand.”

“I will suggest that you keep her here with you for the time being and don’t let your family know all this. This is good for her and she would want the same,” An Tian suggested.

“I will do it,” Lu Lijun assured.

“I am here in England for the time being so it will be easy to treat her,” An Tian informed.

“Thank you so much.”

An Tian looked at Xiao Min, “You know the medicines.”

Xiao Min nodded, “I will take care of it.”

An Tian stood up, “I will be back in the morning.”

Lu Lijun agreed. Before An Tian could leave the room he stopped and looked back at Lu Lijun. “You might find her behaviour childish when she wakes up. Just bear with it for the time being. She is just scared to face everything again and nothing else. She might also call you Lu Qiang and might not be herself so don’t be startled.”

“Anything for her,” Lu Lijun replied.

An Tian smiled and left.

The entire night Lu Lijun could not sleep as he was worried and could not take his eyes off of her. He didn’t know what to think even as he could only feel hurt for her. He continued sitting on the chair next to her bed and caressing her hand to make her feel his presence.

The entire night she was feeling calm and didn’t wake up with nightmares except for feeling restless once in a while when Lu Lijun would calm her down.

——

The next morning Jiang Yuyan woke up. She looked around but there was no one. It reminded her of the days when she was admitted to the hospital after that accident in the past. It scared her and she started feeling anxious.

‘I..need to go to him..’

With much effort, she managed to pull herself out of the bed. She looked at the door which was not far but felt as if it would take her an eternity to reach there as she was so weak. Suddenly the door of the bathroom inside the room opened and Lu Lijun saw her.

“Yuyan,” he stepped towards her and she saw him.

“Why are you out of the bed...”

Before he could say more, she hugged him as her hands tried to surround his back tightly and not let go of him. One could clearly see she was scared of something.

It startled Lu Lijun for a moment but he immediately got back to his senses and hugged her back. “I was here. Don’t worry,” he said but she was not ready to leave him.

Lu Lijun let her hug him and helped her stand still as he could feel she was not steady on her feet. “You need to rest, Yuyan. I am not going anywhere. How about you sleep and I keep watch over you?” he said gently.

Jiang Yuyan loosened her grip around his waist. Lu Lijun lifted her in his arms and lay her in the bed while her half-opened and sleepy eyes stared at his face. He sat at the edge of the bed and said, “Close your eyes now. I am here.”

Jiang Yuyan obeyed him and closed her eyes while her hand gripped hers. As if it was not enough, she opened her eyes and looked at him, not saying a word.

Lu Lijun didn’t know what he thought and lay next to her in that hospital bed. He turned to face her, who looked at him as if it was what she wanted and turned to her one side only to hug him and bury her face in his chest. She felt calm and fell asleep soon.

Lu Lijun hugged her back and thought, ‘I wonder if she is thinking I am brother Qiang. Seems like it or there is no way she would behave like this with me.’
