CH 2
Zhen Yi asked her college classmate Si Gui to eat dessert.
In the year of graduation, the two entered the police station together; Zhen Yi resigned after working for a few months and went back to graduate school. Over the past few years, Si Gui has realized her dream since she was a child: becoming a criminal police officer.
Si Gui grew up in the countryside of northwest China. She has both the hearty pride of the North and the simplicity and kindness of the countryside. She is a woman with strong roots. Even Zhen Yi, who claims to be the master of the offensive, occasionally calls her a dead ghost in a "coquettish" way.
Si Gui knows that there is nothing she can do about the nickname "dead ghost" that everyone will call out at the same time, but today, she wants to fight:
"Zhen, I want to change my name."
"Your name is the same as the dream, you are safe." Zhen Yi was perfunctory in comforting her, and ordered poplar nectar and mango sago, and when she turned her head and saw Si Gui's squinting expression was quite estatic, she immediately made a confiding look, "It's the opposite, look at me my name is Zhen Yi which mean righteous, but I'm actually fake."
The corners of Si Gui's mouth twitched: "That's true."
After she finished ordering, Zhen Yi paid first.
She is still obsessed with changing her name: "Zhen, I want to change my name. I was called a servant (si) by a bunch of men all the time in the police station. I should have been a flower in the police station."
"...."
"You let men call you little ghost (Gui) ambiguously?" she asked.
"Let's choose an English name," Zhen Yi suggested, "Rose."
"Rose."
Zhen Yi Laughing loudly, Si Gui knew she was being tricked and kicked her hard from under the table.
"Mom likes roses, so she called me Si Mei. She can definitely call me Si Mei." Si Gui lamented.
Zhen Yi: "Do you want the brat who just entered the police station to call you Shi (Si) sister?"
Si Gui's expression disappeared, and her forehead fell on the table: "Why is my name so unlucky?"
Zhen Yi couldn't stop laughing.
Seeing her like this, Si Gui let out a silent sigh of relief.
The case of Tang Shang and Lin Ziyi has entangled Zhen Yi for too long, especially after Tang Shang jumped off the building, Si Gui was afraid that she might be in a bad mood, so she tested it today and found that she was in good spirits, so she pointed out: "Is your mood okay recently?"
Zhen Yi naturally understood: "Well, I'm still calm."
Si Gui encouraged: "You are still amazing. You performed amazingly in court, and this lawsuit made you famous. If Tang Shang hadn't committed suicide so suddenly, maybe the case would have had a different outcome."
Zhen Yi: "It was you who settled the case. Did she really commit suicide?"
"What are you suspecting?"
"No, just ask." She didn't think Tang Chang would commit suicide. But, no matter how well she comprehends, she still couldn't fit the puzzle pieces.
Si Gui: "There are rumors that you sold the evidence to get $3 million for the Song family's private expenses."
Zhen Yi raised her eyebrows: "Miss Policewoman, do you want to interrogate me?"
Si Gui stopped asking; she doesn't want to push it further. She's not in Zhen Yi's position, so she can't comment on her choice.
She probably guessed what kind of exchange Zhen Yi made, which might be what some officials in the system hoped for.?She disagrees, and she believes that punishing evil is a must for society.?But she also knew how difficult the case was because of the strong backgrounds of the four defendants. She knew how Zhen Yi had survived the past few months: sleeping only two hours a day, collecting evidence everywhere to find witnesses, being threatened every day, and supporting herself. Supporting Tang Chang, who was emotionally unstable on the cusp of the storm.
She must have wanted to send those four people to prison more than anyone else, but in the end...
Zhen Yi lowered her eyes, remembering the words of Tang Chang's younger sister Tang Yu:
"What's the use of going to prison? Lawyer Zhen, can they be sentenced to death? Can you let them die? How long will they stay—10 years? With their background, I doubt they will be locked up for 3 years. Then let the media exaggerate our tragedy? Then what about our family's pain and my sister's death? If so, just treat my sister as publicity. Don’t netizens say that? I’d rather take 3 million to make up for my parents. People are dead, what’s the use of bullshit justice? Yes, don’t tell me that I’m not that noble to bring them to justice and save others from harm. To be honest, I really hope they gang-raped all the women in the Imperial City."
Inadvertently, Zhen Yi smiled and got lonely.
Seeing Si Gui, she blamed herself for talking too much and changed the topic: "Why didn't Yang Zi come?"
work.
