Leveling Up My Husband to the Max

CH 21

“I am the lady of the ho..”

“In this world, there is a clear line between people of higher stature and those that are not. I too, know that those of higher stature must fix the problems that those of lower stature have. Even so, that does not mean that those who sit above can simply punish the ones below them as they please.”

At Amber’s words, the servants that were shivering in fear nearby lifted their heads and turned to each other with surprised expressions on their faces. It was the first time they heard a noble speaking like Amber was right now.

Nobles never treated commoners like human beings. Though they were slightly generous to those that worked in their castle and for their household, it was only in comparison to other commoners outside of their servants.

This wasn’t exclusive to the conservative Eastern nobility. Nobles from the Northern and Southern lands all treated commoners like lesser human beings.

But Amber was different.

Amber was the daughter of a family with a short history of nobility that was able to rise in position thanks to their booming business. Ever since she was young, Amber watched countless people of all stature trade with her father.

Viscount Liart, Amber’s father, treated people with skill equally without any hesitation regardless of their status, and always did his best to trade on equal ground.

As a result, Amber naturally had a different sense of values compared to the other noble families of the empire.

She was never able to lay out her values in her previous life as she huddled in the corner shivering in fear. Amber was afraid of sounding out her unique sense of morales amongst the nobles of the Eastern Lands and didn’t dare speak up, not even once.

But it was different now. Amber didn’t have any plans to hide away her ideals, nor stay quiet in fear of being labeled as having wrong morals.

On top of that, Jenia’s safety was on the line. Even if she were afraid and didn’t want to, she would still have opened her mouth.

“Amber, child, you really don’t seem to understand how things work around here,” Bella smirked again at Amber’s words. “To have me as your enemy just to defend a maid who works in laundry, you will definitely regret this decision lat..”

But suddenly..

“Mother? What are you doing here?”

She heard Kalix’s voice.

Amber and Bella were equally surprised as they turned towards the source of the voice.

With two, no, three knights at his side, they saw Kalix who just came in from the corner of the garden that connected to the laundry area. Shock filled his expression at the surprised scene in front of him.

“Kalix?” Bella’s voice became unnaturally higher in tone. She held out her arms and hurriedly went towards Kalix. “What brings you all the way here? Come, give your mother a hug.”

The moment Bella’s arm touched Kalix, his dark blue eyes flashed to an icy glare that was as cold as the ocean, but the cold glare passed so quickly it seemed like a trick of an eye.

Kalix hugged Bella back with a slow movement.

Receiving Kalix’s hug, Bella felt a satisfied smile creep onto her lips. With a boastful expression on her face, Bella turned to Amber.

Amber was barely able to hold back her desire to let out a long sigh.?‘The situation is going to worsen now that he’s here.’?Amber had that though as she looked at Kalix.

That was what Amber thought as she looked at Kalix.

It wasn’t that Kalix showed obvious signs of siding with Bella, but like the other men of the East, Kalix never involved himself in household affairs.

“You two, just figure it out and solve the problem yourselves.”

Whenever Bella and Amber clashed, Kalix would simply tell them to work it out themselves.

It was infuriating to hear him say that, as if the two were equally to blame, Kalix’s words would be interpreted to be favorable for Bella due to her higher position.
