CH 36
“It seems that your strategy meeting finished early.” Amber broached the subject while finishing her jelly.
“Yes.”
“So what will happen with the subjugation forces?”
“They will leave for battle tomorrow with Sir Jeit in the front.”
“I see.” Amber’s face grew dark at the knowledge of what would happen after the subjugation.
The subjugation itself was easily completed, but the real problem was what would happen next as they would need to immediately set off to the Kale Kingdom at the emperor’s orders. Their leave to the Kale Kingdom would be the basis of the fall of the Eastern Lands.
‘I have to revive the economy and power of the Eastern Lands. And to do that.. There’s no other way but to..’?Amber’s head was filled with a complicated mix of thoughts. Kalix narrowed his eyes at her dark and serious expression.
Without noticing Kalix’s discomfort, she thought deeply before finally speaking again. “While the troops are out for the subjugation, I shall..”
“We have a proper system set in place when we leave for battle every year. There is no need for you to worry, Madam.” Kalix cut her off and reassured her before she could finish.
Amber felt the distance between her and Kalix grow at his words. The warm mood from the pleasant meal suddenly fractured into pieces.
He was always like this, even in her previous life. Whenever Amber tried to ask or say something, Kalix would shut her away.
‘Why are you so disappointed, Amber? You knew what he was like. There’s no need to feel so hurt over him anymore.’?Amber endured the stern glare that her husband shot her way as she steeled her mind again.
“I have something I need to do while the subjugation forces are away for battle.” Amber spoke loudly so as not to be defeated by Kalix’s inconsiderate personality.
“You have something to do? Madam, you..”
“Please don’t say that all I need to do is to simply quietly sit inside the castle.” This time Amber was the one to cut his words off.
Caught off guard, Kalix immediately closed his mouth.
“At any rate, it will benefit you, Your Excellency.”
“Besides, what I am going to do is something that you’d welcome, Your Excellency.”
Confusion and curiosity flashed across Kalix’s face.
Amber took a deep breath and straightened her posture.
Her next words were important. It wasn’t something that would just affect her own wellbeing. It would completely change the situation of the Eastern Lands.
“I will solve the Eastern Land’s food shortage crisis.”
Act 2. What The Newlywed Wife Brought.
Surprised, Kalix’s eyes widened at Amber’s words. “Madam..” After a long time, Kalix finally opened his mouth with a sigh. “The state of desolation the Eastern Lands are currently in is likely different than the droughts of other territories you’ve experienced and learned of.”
What Kalix said was the truth. The current crisis in the Eastern Lands was a strange phenomenon unwitnessed in any other territory of the kingdom.
Fifty years ago, the Eastern Lands saw a severe decrease in precipitation.
There was no particular change in topography and no other factors that could affect the weather, but the startling lack of precipitation was unbelievable. The people of the East did everything they could to discern the reason and solve the phenomenon, but their efforts didn’t have any results.
“Scholars and mages from the tower were invited, but even they couldn’t make sense of the situation.”
Amber didn’t look the slightest bit concerned at his words. “I understand very well that my words sound ridiculous.”
For someone who just arrived to talk big that they could solve something no one else could even touch was so preposterous that even Amber wouldn’t have believed her in Kalix’s position. “But I really do have a plan.” Wishing for her sincerity to be conveyed, Amber spoke earnestly.
She had to persuade him no matter what. Amber needed Kalix’s support to do what she needed to do.
