Kill The Healer!

-2 Chapter 1 Forward, Introduction, and the power system explained

I wanted to make a system novel build around a hard magic system that gives the MC a hard limit on firepower (no pulling plot armor out of your ass in the middle of a fight) inspirations for the novel include kiritsugu's origin story from fate stay night, the importance of blood in bloodborne (a manner of healing and a change in body constitution) , toxicity mechanics from the witcher series, and some minor inspiration from the magic structure and CAD's in the irregular at magic high school.

I've wanted to do a system novel for a long time and Im still ironing out the details of combat and magic principles but I have enough to start the novel at least

principles of magic and combat

Practitioners- refers to both those who use magic and martial arts

Elementalists- refers to those who practice elemental magic some are specialized some are not

Healers- refers to those who practice life and death magic (yes light and dark magic are one and the same)

Hemomancer- a specialist in blood magic and rune research (as blood is the origin of all runes)

Mage- A general classification of magic practitioners

Magnus- a mage with a high affinity in all elements

Magic Fighter- those who practice both magic and martial arts

Rouge- a specialized type of fighter trained in the use of a wide range of tools and devices

Warrior- front line combatant specialized in warrior power and one or two weapons anyone from a cavalryman to an archer can fall into this category

Magic Circuit/Meridian Rupture-

when the flow of magic is drastically interrupted or altered mana can go haywire and destroy the central nervous system and blood vessels resulting in paralysis, nerve damage, internal bleeding, organ rupture and or instant death. the severity of MCR is determined by both a difference in power and the level of the spell interrupted

magic and warrior power cannot normally be circulated at the same time as this leads to MCR the severity is determined by the level difference of warrior power to spell level a person can withstand MCR at a very low intensity if their body has been tempered to handle the backlash

acupuncture can heal and reconnect both magic circuits and meridians but the treatment has its limits this is often used as a form a battlefield medicine

forceful casting- this is a rarely used technique that uses warrior power to both to increase a spells level and withstand the backlash It can be used as a self destruct method is the spell is cast a a high enough level above the user and the spell model doesn't collapse before the explosion of the magic circuits and meridians occurs

About Magic Fighters

Special constitutions-

normally magic and warrior power go together about as well as oil and water but people with a special constitution can cultivate a specialized warrior power that allows the use of one or two elements for both magic and combat simultaneously

magic tools-

another way to be a magic fighter is the use of magic tools and potions that allow the user to enhance themselves or even cast magic in battle without the risk of MCR a tool can only use one spell however, and there is a limit on how many tools can be used at once. Additionally magic tools are either disposable or have a spell battery that must be recharged

Alchemy

the practice of making potions toxicity of the potions limits how much can be ingested at once hemomancy based alchemy can be used to give a person temporary innate spells and abilities that consume both warrior and magic power without consequence

Surgery- some magic beast organs can be transplanted into humans granting them special abilities and enhancements these organs grow with the user but there is a high risk of failure and the cost is astronomical

About Power Levels

power levels determine power capacity and density

Warrior power and mana are separate energies but the body has a limit so their usage is shared

the limit on toxicity is determined by power level and body constitution

some innate and inborn abilities can be used at no cost upon reaching a certain level

the levels are as follows

apprentice (1-10)

novice (1-30)

journeyman (1-50)

Senior (1-70)

Master (1-100)

Grand Master (1-250)

Exalted (1-???)

more power levels as the story progresses to that point
