8 Impatien
Using the System's abilities, I listened in on the group's conversation.
Apparently, someone was selling pills that would make your Pokemon stronger. He priced them at only two-hundred Pokedollars and was making a killing. (A/N: A normal Pokeball costs the same in a shop.)
Interested, I walked up to them and bought one. The man looked like a normal businessman, with a suit and everything.
I then asked the system to analyze the pill.
[Scanning Process Complete.
This pill has no effect whatsoever on Pokemon. Can be used to cure a light headache in humans.]
A scam, huh?
I felt like reporting this person... But didn't bother to in the end. I wouldn't be able to prove my claims anyway.
At least he set a limit to how many pills a single person can buy, meaning he still had a conscience.
It's a hard world, and people have to do what they have to do.
That doesn't mean I will do anything like that of course. In fact, the main reason for which I let him go was that he gave me a great idea.
I have a decent sum of money, that the professor gave me before I left. Calculating my normal expenses and the like, it will probably last me for around a month or so.
But now, with this idea, I can probably generate unlimited funding for my journey. If I want to complete the Pokedex, I'm going to need Pokeballs. A lot of them.
Not forgetting to grab some treats for Charmander, I left the canteen and went back to the main counter. Nurse Joy received me with a smile once again.
"Your Charmander is very strong. And it looks like you take great care of it. We hope to see you again."
"Thank you."
With a small smile, I took my Pokemon and released Charmander. He hugged my leg for a while until it was time to leave.
I made my way to the Poke Mart, going straight for the counter. The shopkeeper greeted me with a smile and asked what he could do for me.
"Is your manager around?"
He looked at me weirdly, but after flashing my Pokedex, he understood and went into the back room. It seemed that the professor had Spread the word as I had anticipated.
After a while, the shopkeeper was back. This time, he was accompanied by an old, round man. He seemed like your typical merchant.
"So... What does Pallet town's genius want from us?"
"You know me?"
That's surprising. Did my fame extend further away from the town?
"Well, let's not talk too much about it. What do you need? I will help with anything I can."
How convenient. This person will be of great help to my plan.
While Charmander was eating his treats, I then talked to him in private for a while.
His expression went from disbelief to surprise every now and then. By the end, he looked excited.
"Leave it to me! Here's my phone number."
With a nod, I left the shop along with Charmander. My next destination was going to be route twenty-two. The one leading to the league.
There are some Pokemon that I want to catch over there.
After a while of walking and enjoying the foreign scenery, I finally arrived at the place. On the right were pretty big hills, and on the left, there was a lake. (AN The lake has been added by me so that it seems less artificial.)
Using the sensor, which spanned a ten-meter radius, I located my first target. Sandshrew.
The little guy was hidden in a small hole. Making sure it was by itself, I ordered Charmander to fill the hole with flames.
Sure enough, it came out quickly due to the heat. Even with its ground typing, Charmander's flames pack quite the punch.
Its stats and health bar were quickly displayed for me to see. It was level eight and had lost a quarter of its total health.
Seemingly angry, it used Sand-Attack on Charmander. I predicted it and told him to dodge in the optimal direction.
After many battles, Charmander was much more receptive to my instructions. It sure helped that he was naturally smart.
"Use Dragon Dance, followed by scratch!"
Charmander bent its small knees, and the flame on its tail roared vigourously as a purple light surrounded him. Feeling the power within its body, it lunged at Sandshew and finished it off with one move.
Not wasting any time, I swiftly caught it.
After going through the usual healing and scanning, I resumed my search.
A couple of hours later, I caught all the ones I was looking for.
These were: Sandshrew, Mankey, Nidorino, and Nidorina.
Nidorino and Nidorina gave Charmander a lot of Exp. He was now level eleven.
As I was getting ready to leave, a familiar voice stopped me in my tracks.
"Shawn! Let's fight!"
I turned around and saw two people heading towards me. Of course, they were Red and Green. Why were they here?
And he wants to fight me? I'm up for a challenge.
"What's up guys, How's your journey coming along?" Smiling, I changed the topic.
"Oh, It's pretty hard... Shawn-san, My Bulbasaur fainted on the way here and I had to take it to the Pokemon center..."
Red then went on to explain how his first day went. What made me relax though, was that Bulbasaur was fine now.
"Stop ignoring me. Let's fight!" Green was getting impatient.
Okay okay. let's do this.
Without much thought, I nodded and we walked away from each other. Red would act as the referee, so he stood on the side.
Bulbasaur was now in his arms, he also wanted to watch.
"I'll win and show Gramps that I'm better... Squirtle, Go!"
Green threw out his first Pokemon onto the field. Squirtle landed on the ground and looked intimidating.
I quickly checked its stats. It was level ten and had the moves: Bubble, Bite, and Tackle. One thing worth noting was that using its shell, it could defend against Charmander's scratch attack to a degree.
"Interesting. Charmander, show him what we've learned!"
"Char!"
Charmander then ran onto the field, smiling.
"You go first... I'll win either way!" Green looked at me confidently.
"Don't mind if I do then... Charmander, use Dragon Dance!"
Similarly to when it battled the wild Sandshrew, a purple aura surrounded Charmander and the fire on its tail grew bigger.
Some of the grass around it even started to burn a little.
"Wow... What move is that? I can feel the heat from over here!" Red's eyes were shining in admiration.
"What happened there... He looks way stronger somehow."
Green looked like he had seen a ghost.
"Well, are you going to move or not? Charmander is getting impatient!"
Hearing my words, Charmander made a provocative gesture towards Squirtle.
