Finding Stardust

239 The Sad Boy

Emma's anger immediately boiled over when she learned that not only had these evil people kidnapped and tortured a child but they also deliberately wanted to frame her people for the deed. Taeshi was her mother's homeland, which means it was her homeland too.

These rebels held a deep grudge toward Akkadia and they were especially bitter because Therius' father, General Wolfland wiped out many of their men in the last war before he passed away, and they took it out on his only son.

"You bastards!! If today I don't make calculations with you ... I won't go home in peace ..."

She immediately charged at the two men guarding Therius' right and launched an electromancy attack. The two men were shocked to see that this servant girl turned out to be an electromancer. They tried to block Emma's attack, but the two of them were quickly defeated.

Suddenly, Emma's fist with a lightning charge had struck both of their chests consecutively in one swift motion. In addition to being an electromancer, Emma was also an aeromancer who could fly, so her speed was no match for them.

BANG!

One of the bad guys was pushed very hard that he fell on a chair in the corner of the room and broke it. His body writhed in pain, and his chest was that was punched by Emma instantly went dark.

His three comrades were very surprised to see how badly the attack hit their friend. They quickly charged and attacked Emma together. Each of them took out sharp weapons from the floor and tried to stab her. The man Emma hit at the warehouse entrance had recovered from his initial shock and he joined in to attack the girl.

Being attacked by four big and strong men didn't overwhelm Emma. Among these four people, only two possessed magical powers, and they were only level two. One was a mere herbomancer and the other one was a hydromancer.

'Be careful,' Little Therius, who saw how his savior was attacked by so many people, became very worried.

However, fortunately, his worries were unfounded. Emma easily avoided attack after attack and even fought back. She hit them back with multiple punches powered by electromancy and pyromancy that overwhelmed them.

"Damn girl ..."The man who just received a thunderbolt blow from Emma growled in pain. He held his chest, which felt a terrible, burning sensation. It was so unbearable. As he staggered toward the wall, suddenly his gaze caught the figure of little Therius who was tied to the chair. His mind worked quickly and he moved to grab the boy by the neck.

"Aaahhh ... !!"

Therius's scream of pain startled Emma and she let her guard down. One thug from her right managed to stab her in the shoulder when she turned to see what happened to Therius.

As a result, Emma's clothes were torn on the shoulder and her injured skin was bleeding profusely.

"You heartless bastard! How dare you! Lowly scum of earth.. pick someone your size!" snapped Emma furiously. She pressed down on her injured shoulder and stood upright in her place with a murderous glare. She had never been this angry in her whole life.

"Stop! If you move again, this boy will die," the man who gripped Therius threatened fiercely. He tightened his grip mercilessly to show Emma that he was serious with his words. The knife in his hand flashed with the light, pinned to the boy's neck, ready to shed blood. "I will really kill him, if you don't do as I say!"

Inevitably, Emma was forced to comply. She could not risk Therius being killed by this thug. If Therius died here, then he would never grow up, he would never meet Xion at the academy, nor would he ever go to earth to pick up Emma ...

The girl realized she must not change the past ... No matter what, she must not allow Therius to die.

Emma's mind became very restless.

For a moment, nobody moved. The four thugs could finally properly see the young woman who had been fighting with them. They involuntarily sigh in admiration. They didn't expect this formidable girl was so beautiful!

Now, they could see that even though this girl was wearing a maid outfit, she was definitely not just any woman. She was too pretty to be a servant.

They tried to guess who the girl really was ... Why did she disguise herself as a servant in the royal palace? What was she doing here? Was she a foe or a friend?

"Who are you?" asked the man who threatened Therius. "You are not a servant.. You're impostor just like us."

"Who I am is none of your business," Emma replied curtly.

"If you don't answer my question, I will hurt this boy.. heheh.." The evil thug smirked viciously.

Emma balled her fists to the sides so hard that her knuckles turned white. Ugh ... if only Xion were here, surely they would be able to help Therius.

The current situation was truly unfavorable.

"Why do you want to know? I am not your friend, that is for sure," Emma retorted, ??trying to buy time. "Let go of the kid. We can settle this between us."

"Tch .. you think I'm stupid?" The man sneered. "I'll count to three. If you don't answer, this kid will die."

"Big sister .. don't care about me." Suddenly, the voice of little Therius startled Emma. The boy looked at her intently and forced a bitter smile. "I don't have anyone in this world ... if ... if I die ... I'll be happy. You ... you know that, right?"

"Therius ..." Emma felt her chest tighten when she saw the little boy seemed resigned and ready to die. She quickly read his mind to find out what made him that way. For the first time, she could finally invade Therius's mind and read what was in his heart. Therius in the future was already too powerful for her.. but this little one, was a mere level one.

Oh... What she found about the boy truly broke her heart.

Therius' past was so sad. The boy had absolutely no desire to live after he found out that his mother committed suicide due to a heartbreak caused by his father's death. After he was brought to live in the palace, he had had no friends and had always been the target of his cousins' bullying because they were jealous of him.

Therius endured prolonged grief after the death of his parents. Those who saw him quiet and closed off did not know he was harboring all his sorrows and loneliness on his own.

They just thought he was a shy and quiet child and liked to be alone, when in fact, he had no desire to live at all and even tried to commit suicide several times.

Oh my God, Therius.. aren't you too young to hate life? Emma felt her chest filled with grief for the little boy.

"Therius ... dying is easy," said Emma earnestly. "Staying alive ... is very hard. Don't choose something because it's easy."

She didn't know when, but tears started flowing down from her eyes. She was reminded of how devastated she was when she found out that her mother died a few hours ago, to save her life. She felt like... she didn't want to live anymore.

After her father died, followed by Haoran... and finally her mother too, it was so hard for her. It had become the final straw and thought there were no more reasons for her to live. Emma understood what it felt like not to want to live anymore. That's why she understood what this child felt.

However, she must be able to make little Therius change. If the boy kept thinking about death .. then the future would change. Emma must not let him die.

"The sadness you feel is only temporary ... Just as happiness does not last forever, sadness will also not last forever. This too.. shall pass. One day, you will be able to let your parents go .. and you will finally be happy," said Emma in a trembling voice. "You must become strong so that no one can bully you. You must become strong .. so that you can protect the weak ... You must become strong so that you can uphold justice."

Little Therius seemed fascinated by the words Emma had spoken so earnestly. He bit his lip and looked away.

"Are you done saying goodbye?" asked the man who was gripping Therius with a mocking smile. "Now you will pay for hitting me earlier!"

He nodded at his three comrades and they nodded back. With their knives drawn, the thugs walked toward Emma in menacing expression.
