295 The Challenge 2
"Hmm .. is that so?" Marci nodded. She then turned her gaze to the others, and one by one, they mentioned the type of powers they had and their level. Most did not know what level they were at.
"Very well. It looks like most of you here combined only control earth and water elements," said Emmelyn. She shook her head. "And the average level is only at level 1. I guess if I wasn't your mentor, you will definitely be the first group to fail the challenge."
In Marci's mind, Class-B students were like farmers. Combined, they would have enough powers to cultivate the land, grow plants, and water it.
"Well, I will think about how to use the available resources to win this year's challenge," said Marci finally.
Emma reads Ulla's mind to find out the power map for class A. Ahh, it turned out that more students had offensive powers from the fire and wind elements. They seemed very confident that they would win the challenge.
Ylsa and a final year male student became the mentors for the class-A. The students from class A were all beaming, when they realized they got two of the best mentors in the academy.
They were very confident that they would win the challenges. Meanwhile, classes C and D got several other seniors who became their mentors.
"Hello, Class B. How is it going? Have you got a mentor?" Bastian came over to Emma and her classmates to check on them.
"Marci is very kind. She offered to mentor us," said Miri, pointing at Marci, who was sitting gracefully in the middle of them. "We are very grateful."
Marci nodded as she glanced at Bastian. "This class is terrible. Would you be kind enough to help me mentor them?"
The faces of the class B students suddenly brightened. 24 pairs of eyes immediately turned to Bastian. Only Emma shook her head faintly as she looked at the school president.
Ugh .. she didn't want to see Bastian for the whole week just to win the challenge.
She still felt uncomfortable thinking that this man could read her mind, while she couldn't do the same.
Fortunately, Bastian got the hint. He cancelled his intention to offer to be their mentor.?He understood that Emma didn't like him around her, even though the man had promised not to read her mind.
Bastian knew who Emma really was, and he wouldn't dare to be impudent by reading the queen of Akkadia's mind. However, apparently, Emma still didn't trust him.
"Uhm .. I don't think it's fair to the other students if the school president mentored one particular class," said Bastian with a laugh. "I am sorry, I cannot do it."
Marci frowned. She had seen Bastian's reaction. The man swallowed hard after glancing at Emma. Was Bastian refusing to mentor class B because of Emma?
The princess wondered what was the relationship between Bastian and Emma. Their attitude around each other surely looked a bit awkward for her trained eyes.
"I guess it's okay, Bastian. I'm sure everyone trusts that you will be fair and not give special treatment to Class B," said Marci with a smile.
Bastian shook his head.
"Sorry, I can't. I will be busy with organizing the challenge event anyway," said Bastian. He hurriedly changed the subject and looked for an excuse to leave them. "Good luck. I need to check other classes now."
He tapped Marci on the shoulder and hurried back to the stage. The princess from Mireen just stared at his departure with a suspicious expression. She then turned to Emma.
"Have you known Bastian for a long time?" She asked matter-of-factly.
Emma shook her head. "No. I happened to be friends with Ulla, Bastian's cousin, and we were only introduced yesterday."
"Is it true?" Marci asked in disbelief. "I thought you and Bastian are very close."
Emma coughed at Marci's words. "Uhm .. absolutely not. I don't know why you could think that."
Miri looked at Emma and Marci alternately. "Marci, do you really think Lee and Bastian are close?"
The girl then recalled several occasions where Bastian came to see them while they were with Ulla. Miri now remembered that Bastian always acted strange around Emma.
Ahh ... did Bastian like Emma?
Marci shrugged, "I'm just asking. Because I saw Bastian seemed interested in being your mentor, but Emma told him not to."
Simultaneously, Emma's classmates turned towards the girl. Their faces all looked surprised, and some looked disappointed.
Was that true that Emma told Bastian, their school president, not to become their mentor?
Why did she do it?
"I think Marci got it wrong," said Emma hastily. "I don't forbid Bastian from doing anything. I'm just a freshman. I can't possibly order the school president around, can I?"
"I don't know .. maybe Bastian likes you?" asked Marci bluntly. This girl seemed to never hold back and talked as she pleased. "Men can do even the craziest shit for the girl they like."
Emma just chuckled and shook her head. "No way. I already have a boyfriend. You can ask Bastian now if he really likes me. I am sure he will say no. Please don't create a misunderstanding."
Marci looked closely at Emma with a faint smile on her face. She found Emma even more intriguing now. Even though this girl tried not to attract attention, Marci saw that Emma was very different from her peers.
Emma immediately caught Marci's attention as soon as she saw her in the hall today. Initially, it was Emma's blinding beauty that she tried to hide by mingling with other students and acting unassumingly that attracted Marci to her.
Marci intentionally offered to be Emma's class mentor to irritate Ylsa. Marci knew Ylsa was so full of herself and didn't realize there was a new beauty in the academy that would soon overthrow her from her status as the campus belle.
Marci planned to help Emma get into the spotlight by winning the challenge and make Ylsa infuriated. Just imagining Ylsa pulling her hair in annoyance made Marci laugh internally.
However, after Marci talked with Emma, her reclusive personality made Marci think that there was more to her than what she let others see.
"You're very sure I was wrong," said Marci. "Okay. Let's just forget about that. I guess I could ask one of the other senior students to be your second mentor."
Emma breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't like arguing with Marci over trivial things. Hence, she was glad Marci did not bring up the matter again.
