22 Chapter 22
We entered the building to a dark hall with a musty smell. The floors were wooden and the ceiling and walls were the same stone as the outside but dull almost like chalk. To the left, there were tables with small groups of people sat around them. Directly across from the entrance there was a bar with countless wines and barrels lined behind it. To the right of the bar, there was a plain wall with a notice board with all the jobs available for the adventurers to take on.
Roland approached the bar and put down his cup on top of it. "Barkeep. I'd like a refill."
"Sure thing." A girl with dark brown hair and two white cat ears popped up from behind the bar.
"Oh and one more for my friend here."
"Friend? It's unlike anyone to make friends with a human." She looked over at me. "Oh. Now I get it. Another human huh? Oh well... Nice to meet you I'm Liz."
I took a seat at the bar. "Yeah. I'm Yuki."
"That makes three now."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"That's how many humans are in Graecia."
"Really? Who's the third?"
Roland interrupted. " A stuck up bitch that's who." He took a sip of his drink.
Liz ignored his comment and carried on. "She works for the king. She's a high ranking Magic Knight."
"Um... What's a Magic Knight?"
"You haven't heard of them?"
"No. Should I have?"
"Well if you want to stay in this city then yes. They are Knights that work directly under the king. They even get to ride dragons."
"Oh ok."
I went to pick up my drink when the door behind me was kicked open almost falling off its hinges as it slammed into the wall.
"I heard you were back!"
Roland takes another sip of his drink. "Great..." He said under his breath as he sighed.
I turned to see a huge man with green skin and two large slightly yellowed teeth sticking up from the bottom of his jaw. Was he an Orc? He had two people with him who also looked like him but they were slightly smaller than him. He looked at me and give a look of disgust.
"What are you looking at?" He snapped.
I took a moment to consider my options. An ugly bastard who interrupted my conversation. No, I should probably avoid conflict for Roland's sake. I turned around and took a sip of my drink.
He walked over and stood behind Roland. "So do you finally have my money?"
Roland put down his drink and forced a smile as he turned around. "No not today..."
He was then forced into the air as the Orc guy picked him up by his throat.
"I will get it by next week!" Roland said as he struggled to breathe.
"Next week isn't good enough. How about..."
"Put him down." I cut him off before he could finish.
He dropped Roland to the ground and he started rubbing his neck as he tried to take in more air. The Orc came over to me and stood next to me causing me to be in shadow.
"Now you are going to pay the money he owes me." He snarled at me. As his friends began to laugh.
This guy was nothing compared to even one of the weaker demons I had killed. His act of intimidation was almost laughable to be completely honest.
"No, I'm not," I said before gulping up the rest of my drink.
He let out a slight chuckle before placing his hand on my head and squeezing. The pressure was almost nothing to me but I'm guessing this is his usual way of intimidating people. He stopped laughing when he realized I didn't let out a single noise. His facial expression changed making him look enraged as he put his other hand on my head and began to squeeze harder.
"Hey, can you stop now? It's kind of annoying." I put my drink on the counter and pushed his arms away with one hand and stood up facing him so he couldn't surprise attack me. He stumbled back a little but regained his balance.
"It looks like I'm going to have to put you in your place kid." He wound his arm back before thrusting his fist towards me. It was a pretty slow punch so I took it head on. His fist hit me in the cheek. The room fell silent for a moment before there was a scream. The Orc stumbled backwards as blood dripped from his hand. The bones in his fingers had shattered and crumpled inwards and were now sticking out of the back of his hand just before his wrist.
Well, I wasn't expecting this... Is he really that weak? I thought back to seeing myself chained up as blood drained from my chest. No that's not it... My body has changed...
"What do you call that attack?" I taunted him a little.
He managed to compose himself as he pulled a dagger from his hip. He began to laugh as he thought he now had an advantage. He ran forwards as he forced the dagger forwards towards my throat. When he was about an inch away I turned my body sideways to avoid it and pushed my knee up into his chest. His body arched over as all the air in his lungs was forced out. He let out a slight moan before his body hit the floor.
I sat back down at the bar and looked into Roland's cup. It was empty.
"Hey, Liz two refills please."
She smiled and turned around to fill the cups. "Coming right up."
The two people the Orc was with grabbed him and rushed out of the building carrying him between them.
Liz put the cups back on the counter as Roland sat back down on the seat next to me.
"What were you thinking!? You don't know what you have just done do you?"
"What do you mean?"
"You have just killed me."
"Killed you? How?"
"I owe his boss 28 gold coins and now you beat his employee up if I don't get the money to him by the end of the week they will kill me."
"I don't see the issue..."
"The issue is that I don't have that kind of money."
I put my hand into my pocket and pulled out a platinum coin and slid it across the top of the bar towards him.
"Consider it a thank you gift for getting me into the city."
"I could tell you had money by your clothes but who would have thought you would carry that much on you. Well after what just happened I can see robbers don't concern you." Liz choked out nervously.
"No, I couldn't possibly take that much." Roland pushed the coin back to me.
I took the coin back. "Fine could you do a something for me?"
"What is it?"
"Tell me where the nearest clothing store is."
"Ok. If you just head outside and follow the road towards the palace you will reach the marketplace. And on the left, there will be a shop with a red and white sign you can't miss it."
"Ok thanks. Then I will see you later." I put the coin in his hand and walked out. "That's your payment for providing me with information."
I closed the door behind me and made my way towards the clothing store.
