The Seventh Base

Chapter 22 - Cutting Throat

Chapter 22 Cutting Throat

The corridor on the church’s second floor was in chaos. Everyone was running crazily, dashing into the rooms on both sides of the corridor and locking them, ignoring the people behind.

Some children in the church were shocked and came running out. At this moment, the priest ran in front of the crowd and when he saw a few girls running out, he chided loudly, “Scram back!”

As a result, the girls screamed and ran back to their rooms. Some of them were so scared that they fell onto the floor. They then scrambled up and continued running, their bodies trembling incessantly. The priest brought Irina to the room at the very end and hid there.

“Follow me closely.” Xu Mo carried Yao’er and said to the other two. He could perceive that the man in leather armor and the man with a demon-face mask both had come upstairs. They were behind them but didn’t shoot. They just followed them.

The doors on both sides of the corridors were locked in succession. The first thing that the people who got in first did was lock the doors. Hence, Xu Mo had no choice but to continue moving forward.

Just then, a door next to him suddenly opened. A small head popped out and said softly, “Over here.”

Xu Mo didn’t hesitate and brought Mia and the others in.

The door was then closed and Xu Mo looked to the front. It was an extremely skinny girl who was also one of the singers on the stage. Right now, she had changed into ordinary clothing that looked a little battered. She then sized up Xu Mo’s group and sat down at the side.

Other than her, there were a few other girls in the room. Their gazes were spiritless and when they saw Xu Mo looking at them, all of them lowered their heads slightly and sat in a corner. These girls hadn’t participated in the performance earlier.

“Thank you,” Xu Mo said to the girl who had opened the door. She didn’t say anything but continued to lower her head.

Xu Mo felt that there was something amiss with this church.

He expanded his perception and sensed that two figures had now appeared at the end of the corridor. They were a bald man and someone who was holding a blade. They then stared at the man in leather armor and the man with a demon-face mask who were walking toward them.

The man holding the blade had electricity flowing on it.

“Origin energy.” The man in leather armor stared to the front, and his gaze suddenly became especially solemn.

“Uncle Fang, we seem to have barged into a base,” said the man with a demon-face mask softly. “Should we retreat?”

“Turn it over.” Uncle Fang, the man in leather armor, didn’t choose to retreat but charged on forward. Seeing this, the man with a demon-face mask raised his guns and fired at the two men on the opposite side.

The bald guy and the man with the blade also moved, charging forth. Because of their actions, the corridor’s floor started to tremble.

Bang! The bullet pierced the bald guy in front, as if sinking into his skin. However, it didn’t penetrate his skin nor did it bleed. His skin seemed like it was forged from steel. The bald guy then appeared before the middle-aged man in leather armor at horrifying speed and smashed his fist out fiercely.

The middle-aged man in leather armor also punched out. When both fists collided, a crisp sound rang out. It was the sound of metals colliding

“Modified human!”

The countenance of the middle-aged man in leather armor changed slightly, and his body was pushed back. The bald guy also stopped in his footsteps, but an electric blade showed up in his stead. At some point, the man holding a blade appeared from behind the bald guy, slashing his blade out fiercely at the middle-aged man in leather armor. A burst of extremely sharp blade light brushed past like lightning

Seeing this, the middle-aged man in leather armor raised both fists to take on the electric blade head-on, but the other party quickly performed a second and third slash. Each slash he made was in succession, and the situation was extremely dangerous.

At the same time, the bald guy dashed toward the man with a demon-face mask.

The man with a demon-face mask moved at a very fast speed. While backing off, he fired his guns consecutively, aiming for the enemy’s eyes and head. But then, the bald guy protected his head with both arms. When the bullets hit his arms, they pierced through his skin, and the steel inside was exposed. As a result, the other party’s clothes were torn, and his body looked like it was covered in a layer of armor.

The gaze of the man with a demon-face mask was extremely grim now. Of course, he could tell that this was a modified human.

In the room, Xu Mo leaned against the door, perceiving the battle situation outside. The middle-aged man in leather armor had great strength and agility, not being on the losing end despite facing the opponent’s electric blade with his steel fists. The opponent’s blade was also very terrifying, not being on the same level as those available in the fighting arena on the black market.

Any one of these four people was stronger than Xu Mo.

In the fight he had with the middle-aged man in leather armor, he had only caught his opponent off guard and posed a threat by changing the direction of the meteor darts. If they were fighting head-on, he wasn’t a match for him.

“Uncle Fang, things are getting a little tricky. Let’s retreat first!” shouted the man with a demon-face mask. His guns couldn’t threaten his opponent, and he had been suppressed, with no choice but to keep dodging.

“Then what about those children?” Uncle Fang seemed a little unwilling to give up. His steel fists attacked increasingly crazily, facing the other party’s electric blade head-on. He was throwing his life out in this fight.

They had tracked down the kidnapping cases to the church but didn’t expect to have entered a base.

“Children?”

Xu Mo had been having the feeling that something was amiss. These two men didn’t seem like thugs, and they didn’t kill the innocents after entering the church either. From their conversation, it seemed that they were here for the ‘children’.

Previously, on the streets, he had encountered them at the place where the magician had been abducting a child. They might be trying to track down the kidnapping incidents.

There was definitely a problem with this church.

Xu Mo averted his gaze from the door and looked toward the girl curling up in a corner. Energy rays shot from his eyes, penetrating her clothes. After that, he saw many wounds on the girl’s body, some of which hadn’t recovered and were a scary sight. Xu Mo’s heart couldn’t help but twitch when he saw them.

“How did you guys come here?” Mia asked the girl. She had clearly heard the voices outside as well.

The girl lowered her head and didn’t reply.

“Where are your parents?” Mia continued to ask.

A few girls shook their heads. A girl at the side, who was around six years old, took out a photo from her pocket and clutched it tightly in her hands. She then carefully opened up the photo that seemed like it was going to be torn soon. Tears trickled down her eyes.

“Can you show it to elder sister?” Mia’s heart ached a little as she asked.

The girl nodded and handed the photo to Mia.

Xu Mo also looked at the photo, and his expression suddenly changed.

“Let me take a look.” Xu Mo took the photo from Mia’s hand, causing Mia to look at him, a little surprised.

There were three people in the photo. Other than the girl, there was also a married couple. They were a family of three.

Xu Mo’s eyes stared at the man carrying the girl. It was someone with an extremely burly figure. His hands were very large, and the girl wrapped her arms around his neck, smiling very brightly.

“A`Tai.” Xu Mo felt intense grief. He thought of the man who had been brutally killed at the fighting arena. The reason he had joined the fights was to send his child out of this brutal and merciless Subterranean World. However, he had died in the fighting arena.

Now, his child was abducted to this place..

He understood why A’Tai wanted to send her away now.

“You know my daddy!” When the girl heard Xu Mo’s soft mumbling, she stared at him. She walked up to Xu Mo and asked, “Elder brother, do you know where my daddy is?”

Xu Mo looked up at the girl. He saw her looking at him with a tear-stricken face and eyes filled with hope.

He didn’t know how to say it.

“Xu Mo.” Mia also looked toward Xu Mo.

Xu Mo lowered his head, not daring to look at the girl’s eyes.

“Elder brother, can you please tell me where my daddy is? Mommy and I have been looking for him, but we couldn’t find him. Later on, I was abducted here by bad people. Does he not want me and mommy anymore?” The girl cried heart-wrenchingly, clearly having been put through too much grief.

“No.” Xu Mo looked up at the girl, his voice hoarse.

“Where’s my daddy?!” The girl cried even louder.

Xu Mo looked at her and used his hands to wipe away her tears. He said sadly, “Your daddy loves you a lot. He tried very hard, wanting to earn money and send you to live in a better place. However, an accident happened.”

Xu Mo’s voice was a little low, and the girl was a little confused. But when she heard what Xu Mo said, she seemed to have understood something and she cried heartbreakingly.

“Do I not have a daddy anymore? I can’t find my mommy either. These people beat me every day..” The girl’s body convulsed intensely, and she was unable to stop her tears. When Mia heard these, she couldn’t hold back her tears anymore.

“Is this place really a church?” Mia found this a little unrealistic. Never in her dreams would she expect that a sacred place like this was hiding such darkness.

Xu Mo didn’t reply, not knowing how to answer her. He then continued to perceive the situation outside. The steel fists were still colliding intensely against the electric blade. The attacks of the man in leather armor became increasingly ferocious as though he didn’t care for his life anymore. He didn’t have much time left.

At this moment, a man appeared at the end of the corridor. He grabbed a girl in one hand and a blade in the other as he walked toward the man in leather armor. “Are you here to save them?”

Xu Mo had seen this man before. It was the magician’s assistant he had met on that street.

His blade cut the skin on the girl’s face, and she let out a scream in pain and horror.

“You beast!” the man in leather armor bellowed furiously.

The man walked up to the two of them quickly and said to the man in leather armor, “I’ll hand her to you.”

As he said this, he tossed the girl straight between the two of them.

The man holding a blade slashed his blade down without any hesitation, while Uncle Fang felt an intense struggle in his heart. Not having any time to consider, he struck his right hand out toward the blade while trying to grab the girl with his left.

Psssht.. The blade came slashing down when Uncle Fang was distracted. As a result, blood splattered and Uncle Fang’s right wrist was chopped off. He then placed the girl on the ground with a painful expression on his face. He looked sadly at the sobbing girl, and the latter ran away in tears.

“Uncle Fang,” shouted the man with a demon-face mask who was forced to the other end of the corridor. At the same time, three consecutive gunshots rang out outside, as though reminding them to retreat.

“Hurry up and leave!” The right hand of the middle-aged man in leather armor bled profusely, dyeing the floor red. “Uncle Fang..” The voice of the man with a demon-face mask seemed to be a little in pain.

Another gunshot rang out behind them and the middle-aged man in leather armor bellowed, “I’m telling you to scram!”

Hearing this, the man with a demon-face mask didn’t hesitate anymore. He wore an extremely painful gaze under his mask and then ran crazily downstairs. The bald guy gave chase.

At this moment, the middle-aged man in leather armor knew that he might not survive. He was bleeding too profusely, and it couldn’t be stopped. Although his physique was very good, he still wouldn’t be able to hang on. Moreover, there was a genetic warrior in front of him.

He took down his mask and threw it onto the floor, revealing a resolute face. He stared at the two men in front of him and said, “Pray that your children won’t face the same fate.”

“Kill him,” said the magician’s assistant. After that, the man holding a blade walked

up.

Just then, the lights above his head kept on flickering non-stop, appearing extremely eerie.

Па

“Hmmm?” The man wielding a blade looked up and ‘chi chi’ sounds rang out as if there was electricity flowing.

“What’s going on?”

The magician’s assistant also looked up. This strange situation continued until they heard the sound of a door opening. It seemed like someone had come out.

Under the flickering light, the magician’s assistant saw a figure suddenly appearing in front of the door at the side, staring at him like a ghost. This caused his heart to skip a beat.

However, he soon saw the person’s face clearly, and coldness appeared in his gaze. To think that it was the kid from that horse carriage?

Was he trying to court death by running out at a time like this?

However, just as this thought appeared in his mind, he saw that Xu Mo’s body seemed to have moved, getting closer to him under the strange light, akin to a ghost. His countenance changed and at the next moment, he reached out his trembling hands and covered his throat. Blood was gushing out profusely.

A sharp weapon had slit his throat!
