15 Pewter Gym
I woke up early today, the sun is already rising so I decided to run for a while to forget my worries. This is going to be my first gym battle, I can't help but feel excited.
'Pika pi?'
Red: "I'm going for a run, Pikachu. You come?"
He did nods and jumps to my shoulder. I walked toward the lobby and greet the one in charge. Misty and I have paid for the room last night, so it should not be a problem if I'm not here when she awake.
After we exited the building is started to jog, it's early and not many people have awoken yet, so I can run do it freely. Its been a while since I jogged at morning like this, the breeze feels really nice. I kept running for a few minutes until I get at an open field. I did let all my pokemon out, we'll going to decide who gonna fight today.
I have decided to use Mankey against Onix, but I need another pokemon in the team. And Mankey's Low Kick have stronger effect against heavier pokemon if he grows tired by fighting against someone like Geodude we are going to have serious problems.
"Ok guys. Today we are going to have a battle against a really strong pokemon trainer. For all I know, this trainer is a rock-type pokemon specialist and I want to decide who is going to fight this time."
They looked excited. Its a shame but almost every one of them is weak against rock-type. I will not make them fight a lost battle, that will hurt their confidence. Especially if they fight against Onix, he hard to fight against him if you don't have a grass-type or water-type.
"I'm sorry Karna and Pidgey, you two will not be fighting this time. You are in complete disadvantage, but don't be discouraged. There will be others Gym, where you will shine."
Pikachu walked toward them and patted each one.
'Pikachu'
"The same to you Pikachu. If Karna were to fight, he still has a chance. In your case, you are completely helpless. Your attacks will do little if not any damage at all."
'Pika!?'
He looks at me in awe. I suppose that he hoped that I will let him fight today, but I not going to make that bet. In the show, Brock's pokemon just used normal-type moves but I don't know if it will be like that in reality. If he decides to use a Rock-type move against Pikachu he could OHKO him.
"Don't worry Pikachu, I know you are stronger. You will be fighting in the next Gym. So you better train hard before that."
'Pikachu' He calmed down after that. I did just smile and keep talking to my pokemon.
"Metapod, you can't fight in your state but I'll help you to evolve once I finish our business in the city." here.
'Metapoood'
Weedle, is weak and she is not even here. That means that Rattata and Mankey are the only left.
"Rattata, you will be the first one. You already can use Iron Tail, and you are not especially weak against rock-type. This battle will be decided by your speed, many rock-type pokemon are slow, so you probably will have a big margin to dodge their attacks. After that, you will weaken their defense, that's important. Once their defense is down, you will finish them with Iron Tail."
'Rattataaaa'
He looks confident, that's good. I hope everything goes well. I turned around to look at Mankey, He just pursed his lips and say nothing, I suppose that he is yearning for a fight and wanted to be the first one.
"Mankey, your job will be really hard. If the worst came to happens you will be fighting against one of the stronger pokemon in this Gym. That pokemon is strong, fast, and have a powerful defense. You have started to train recently but I have faith that you can win, we are together in this."
After that, I did take out some pokeblocks from my bag and given them to them. I got a lot of money from the trainers in the forest, I don't have to worry about money for now.
It didn't take much time for them to finish, they really enjoy the pokeblocks I do.
I did stand up and walk toward them.
"Once you are ready, we are going directly to the Gym to get our first badge!"
They cheer up a few seconds before they return to their pokeball.
I started to walk forward the city and to Pewter Gym.
As I arrive Misty was waiting there.
Misty: "You don't seem to be scared or worried, its good to be confident but don't underestimate your opponent. Gym leaders are scary when they get serious."
I wonder if she is talking about herself. I just put my hands behind my head and answer to her comment with a smile.
Red: "Don't worry, have more faith in me and my pokemon." I walked into the gym, the lights are turned off.
Gym Leader: "Who is there?"
Red: "A challenger, the name is Red."
He frowned as I said my name.
Gym Leader: "Red? A friend of you had a match against me 3 days ago. He said that you will come soon. He also said that will be waiting for you on the Route 4"
A friend? that should be Blue, he is such a cheater. Squirtle surely did destroy Brock's pokemon in combat. 3 days? I suppose he wants the rematch. Well, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
Red: "Oh, thanks for give me the message. By the way, you have not stated your name."
Brock: "I'm sorry, my name is Brock. Do I need to tell you the rules?"
Red: "Single Battle, each of us can just use 2 pokemon, and the challenger has the right to switch between his pokemon. Isn't that right?"
Brock: "If you know them we can start the-"
Misty: "Wait! I've come with him, can I spectate the battle?"
He looked at Misty and answered without giving any thoughts to it.
Brock: "You can use the spectator seats."
Red: "Misty. Pikachu will not be fighting today, and he doesn't like to be in his pokeball. Can you take care of him for a while?"
She smiled and extend her arms to lift Pikachu.
Misty: "Sure. Come Pikachu, we will have a better view from there"
'Pikachu'
Red: "I'm ready."
He looked at me before he walked to the other side of the arena.
Brock: "Fine then, show me your best!"
I looked at the arena, my eyes were burning with excitement. I grabbed a pokeball from my belt.
Red: "Come Rattata, let's do this."
'Rattataaaa'
Brock: "A Rattata? He will have a hard time inflicting any damage to my pokemon. Let me show you. Go! Geodude!"
A smirk appeared in my face. Yeah, surely Geodude defense is strong but Rattata knows Iron Tail and that gives him an edge against rock-type pokemon.
Red: "Rattata, Geodude is slower than you. Remember our plan, keep moving."
Rattata started to run on the arena, Geodude it should not be a hard opponent.
Brock: "Being faster it will not be enough, Geodude use Rollout."
Tch. This attack is kinda hard to dodge and become stronger every time that land a hit, but Brock dont know how to use it correctly. There are many stones in the way Geodude will get stuck.
Red: "Rattata, dodge and try to stay above the bigger stones."
Geodude did come rolling and Rattata jumped to his side dodging Geodude that smash one big stone in the arena. Rattata did take that chance and use Tail Whip on him, we need to reduce Geodude's defense at least 50% and then Rattata will finish him with Iron Tail.
Red: "Rattata, keep moving don't let him hit you."
Brock frowned. Geodude stops rolling after it hit the stone.
Brock: "Geodude, use Rock Polish and then Rollout again!"
Sh*t, that move is a problem but Geodude is too slow to get real benefits from it.
Red: "Stay on the plan, dodge and then use Whip Tail."
Geodude is already rolling toward Rattata if he keeps getting faster that will be a problem. We need to finish this already.
Brock: "Geodude will hit Rattata before you weaken his defense enough to Rattata to do any damage."
Rattata barely dodge it, he is getting tired.
Brock: "Geodude, use Rock Polish again."
Rattata did use Tail Whip again. This should be enough.
Red: "Rattata, its time. Attack Geodude when he comes toward you."
'Rattataaaa'
Brock: "You can not dodge it this time. Geodude, use Rollout!"
At this speed, Geodude could smash Rattata. But he also would get more damage from Rattata's Iron Tail.
Red: "Now Rattata! Use Iron Tail!"
Brock: "What!? Geodude, stop!
It's too late, he is rolling directly to Rattata. I'm sorry for Rattata, this will probably hurt.
'Geeeeeoooooo'
Rattata and Geodude hit each other so hard that it lifted the dust all around.
When the dust had settled Geodude was knocked out, and Rattata was breathing faster. He did a good job.
Red: "That was awesome, Rattata. You have made more than enough, go rest."
I grabbed his pokeball and made it come back. Brock did the same with Geodude.
Brock: "You are not going to use Rattata anymore?" He looked at me doubtful
Red: "He already did enough, he will be resting from now."
Brock: "As you wish. Geodude and Rattata are unable to continue battling. Each of us only has one pokemon left."
I narrowed my eyes.
Come out Onix, I'm waiting for you...
