The Midnight Ark

29 Throne room

In a dark room, there was a blonde boy sitting in his bed in deep thought.

The boy's fingers were drumming in a stressed manner and he wore a face of annoyance.

The boy wore a simple shirt with blue jeans. His face could be described as handsome and he gave off a heroic aura.

Suddenly, a boy appeared from the shadows and landed on the other bed. The boy had black hair and was wearing a cloak over his uniform. Over his face was a blank white mask with no features except for two eye holes.

"Ugh, I'm exhausted."

"Yes you must be, you have been out since five hours ago."

"Yeah, it seems a long time has passed."

"Yep. Where were you by the way?"

"Oh I was at the-"

The black haired boy froze and slowly faced the blonde boy with a dead pan face.

"I-i was out... um... getting air."

"Hmmm, sure. So why are you wearing a mask?"

The boy hurriedly took it off.

"I-I saw a cool man wearing it so I thought to do the same."

"Really? Very believable."

James gave Ark an incredulous look.

"Lies aside, where exactly have you been this entire time?"

"Getting air..."

"I'm not an idiot, I can smell the goblin blood on you. You've been to the Danger Zone right?"

"...yes."

James sighed.

"If you wanted to go we could've gone together you know? We are friends."

"But you guys have school..."

"And you don't?"

"..."

"It's ok, man. Just hit us up when you wanna go for a run. We can hunt together. Plus, instructor Reeves gave us free time until the time for the combined drills."

"Holy fuck, is he sick?"

"Nope, he said something about you needing time to absorb the information. I think it's about resting and healing the damage you took from the attack."

Ark smiled.

So now he shows me some mercy.

"This is hella good news."

James snapped as if remembering something important.

"Dude, I forgot to mention but Kali is going to kill you."

"What! Why?"

"You ditched us at the hospital remember."

"Ohh."

"She caused a disturbance saying you were attacked again."

"Ohhhh."

"She was stopped by the doctor and lashed out in retaliation."

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhh."

"And Kali was immediately put down. Apparently that doctor is a very strong."

"..."

"So Kali is going to kill you for ditching her and causing her to get embarrassed."

"But she made herself get embarrassed, how is that my fault?"

"You know how she is. You think you can change her mind?"

"Fuck."

Ark stared at pitifully at James while James gave him a sympathetic look.

"Nothing I can do man. You ditched her."

Ark snarled.

"Why is my luck so bad. Is the goddess of Fate punishing me for being too intelligent?"

"Who knows?"

"I'm going to sleep. I am very exhausted and tired and can barely stand. Dying to Kali can come after sleep. Good night James."

"It's noon."

"Good midday nap to you too."

Ark heard the sound of footsteps growing quieter and the freak of a door opening and closing.

James left, probably to go exercise.

Ahhh. Sleep, wonderful sleep.

(EA) Hey Ark.

...

(EA) Ark.

WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT!!!

(EA) This might sound weird but can you focus mana into your eyes while thinking about my existence?

Why the hell is this important?

(EA) Just do it.

No, sleep is more important.

(EA) Sleep can wait.

Sleep can never wait.

(EA) Just listen.

NO YOU LISTEN! I'M GOING TO SLEEP!

(EA) WELL I'M GOING TO BUG YOU UNTIL YOU LISTEN!

I DON'T HAVE THAT MUCH MANA TOO SPARE ANYWAYS! I WANT TO SAVE IT, NOT EXHAUST IT.

(EA) YOU WONT USE UP MANA! YOU ARE JUST GOING TO MOVE IT FROM YOUR BODY TO YOUR BODY.

Fine.

Ark closed his eyes while concentrated mana into his eyes while thinking about killing his evil alarm.

Done it, you satisfied?

(EA) Ye, you can open your eyes now.

Ark opened his eyes, expecting to see the same room he was just laying in but he was wrong.

"What the fuck is this place?"

Ark was currently in a majestic hallway with sky blue and white marble decorating the interior. There were exquisite glass windows that showed the outside world to be gloomy and dark. However, the hallway was still magical.

"I know, it's amazing."

Ark heard the sound of footsteps coming from behind him.

When he turned around, he was met with another surprise.

There in front of him, was a boy with smooth black hair and snow white skin. He had eyes the color of polished obsidian and a face Ark thought to be average.

It was the exact mirror image of Ark smiling at him smugly.

"Still think that sleep is important?"

"The hell! Is that you, alternate me?"

"The one and only."

"How is this even possible?"

"We reckon that it was due to our bloodline, more accurately the abilities of our oculus."

EA turned around and started to walk towards two giant castle doors that Ark had miraculously missed when first entering.

"So we observed that when you gather different types of mana into our eyes, it effectively lets us cast stronger spells of that same element."

"So that means, that this is what happens when I gather mana while talking to you?"

"Yes, which means that you can talk to us who were elevated to souls that have an independent thought process from you."

"However, we can still share thoughts and have the same exact intelligence."

(EA) Yep, but this also means something else.

"It means that talking to souls or the souls itself has its own element!"

"And It means we have an affinity to this "soul" element."

"This is amazing!"

"It is!"

Ark and EA stopped and realized that they had stopped walking for a while due to being engaged in their debate.

"I think you have gotten a lot more human like now EA."

"Yes, as I mentioned before-"

"You can have independent thoughts yet share them with me."

They smiled at each other before continuing on.

"This might be amazing, however what you will see next will absolutely blow your mind."

"What."

They arrived in front of the twin doors and EA smiled.

"This."

EA opened the doors to reveal a vast room with a long elegant white meeting table in the center. At the head of the table was a chair that could only be described as a throne. All around engraved on the left and right walls were three portraits with golden frames.

The far end wall was mad into a screen and showed the dormitory room that Ark slept in.

"This is..."

"Yes... it's exactly what you think it is."

EA faced Ark with a bright face, unable to contain his excitement.

"It's our throne room."
